Excellent, knowledgeable wait staff, delicious food and soothing classy ambiance.
corduroy presents excellence
the food was creative, inventive and excellent in flavor! The wine list is not extensive, but well selected and rationally priced. we had been before on many occasions as the noise level was moderate. Perhaps because of 2 larger tables, this time was not quiet. Nonetheless, we had a superb time.
Great for special evening out
This was a great place to have dinner and catch up with an old friend. We sat in a cozy nook and talked, never felt rushed, never had a problem with the noise level. The service was terrific. They have a great wine list, and we took their recommendation, which was excellent. I would highly recommend the rare tuna - it was absolutely delicious.
Never Fails to Impress
My husband and I have been to Corduroy on several occasions, most recently to celebrate my birthday. Corduroy has what many restaurants lack: excellent food, outstanding service and a pleasant atmosphere. Most restaurants cannot do all three well. It is one of the few restaurants where they are not jamming tables in on top of one another (tables are comfortably spaced). Wait staff are very professional and well-versed in the menu and wine selection.

The food was interesting and well prepared. I chose the specials of the day for both my appetizer and my main which was fresh scallops with seaweed and cabbage salad, and soft shell crab. They were both delicate and interesting flavors. The salad could have been improved with maybe some ponzu, but it was very good nonetheless. I was really impressed with the soft shell crab. Great flavors and beautiful presentation. My husband had crab blintz and fluke dish for his main which he enjoyed very much.
Overall a bit disappointing.
Corduroy has been around a long time and I had long wanted to try it because of the generally positive reviews, including from the Wash. Post critic. But there was just nothing special about the place, and at the prices it charges, you want something special. The waiter hyped the tuna as life-changing and while it was good, it was nothing different than high quality tuna available most anywhere over the last decade. The menu is limited and there was just nothing that really stood out, the lobster carpaccio was stunning visually but modest in taste, and the rest of the food was good but nothing that would make me return. The waiter, while affable, was a bit too directive and his help with the wine list always led to a higher priced wine, something that most restaurants have gotten away from. Don't get me wrong, it was a perfectly pleasant evening but for the prices it charges, one wants more than perfectly pleasant.

The waiters were very nice. The food was very good but it took what appeared to be a long time for the food to be served.
Corduroy never disappoints
Our group of 4 was celebrating two milestone birthdays and selected Corduroy as the special occasion restaurant. Everything was excellent. We loved the lounge, a cozy spot where we enjoyed specialty cocktails before dinner. Service was, as always, impeccable. The quality of the dishes was very good to outstanding--one diner's dish of pork belly and beans (yes, pork and beans, but unlike any you had as a kid) was outstanding. The scallops, the special of the evening, were a little on the small side, but perfectly cooked and served with a delicious sauce. Only complaint (minor) was that the green beans that were served alongside were tough. Desserts were excellent, and the restaurant acknowledged our occasion with a special dessert service. Nice touch. It's a pleasure to dine in a restaurant that caters to adults--no "buzz," no "edge," just delicious food served impeccably in a beautiful setting.
Corduroy quietly does a very nice job - from the unpretentious, friendly host; the careful, unobtrusive service; the attractive but not overly dramatic food presentation; and the quality of the food itself. I have been there twice while in Washington and would certainly return.
Worth the trip.
Although on the expensive side, worth the trip. Excellent food and great service.
Just a great dining experience.
I've been wanting to try Corduroy for years and I'm so glad I finally did! From the beginning they emphasize providing an unrushed dining experience, and they definitely deliver. The food was fantastic--each course wowed. The service was very attentive but completely unobtrusive--we barely had to make any requests, and never more than once. This was absolute one of my favorite dining experiences in DC!
Solid upscale dining
Traditional upscale "New American" cuisine done well, but feels slightly more expensive than it should be. Cocktails were very good, as were the options on the extensive wine list. Menu leans very meat-heavy -- no veggie entree option (though the chef will put together a medley dish that is basically a hodgepodge of the sides from the various entrees) and even some of the veg-sounding appetizers ended up containing meat. Service was excellent and ambiance felt like "classic" upscale dining. Overall a solid spot to celebrate an occasion, but probably a little too pricey to consider otherwise.

The salad and bread were very good. We ordered the two fish dishes on the menu. The fish itself was tasty but the sauces, accompaniments were much too salty and odd tasting. The waiter was very nice about it though and comped our meals.
food was excellent, service was excellent (although our extremely attentive server was a little soft spoken) Only downside is that one person in our group wanted a cocktail that the bar could not make. That was fine but three requests in a row were unable to be made at the bar! Granted he wanted some old style drinks that are not that popular, but it was an issue since he was my guest of honor, and he gave up and just had water. not good. Otherwise lovely evening, wine list was fabulous, food was excellent.

We travel overseas frequently and appreciate restaurants that not only feature outstanding cuisine and wines but also provide excellent service. Based on our recent dining experience Corduroy has it all. We were very impressed and look forward to returning again soon!

Nice upscale restaurant and the food was really good. Went for a friends birthday dinner.
Excellent, but very expensive
Don't let the half-vacant block fool you (it almost fooled me!), this place is top shelf. The food, service, and ambiance are amazing. I loved every moment that we were there. Of course, you pay for that kind of experience, and we paid dearly. Our bill came to $88 person with tip. Just something to keep in mind... definitely save this place for special occasions.
Almost, but not quite
We came in as a party of five. The experience was good but far from great. The restaurant is a little tired. Not terribly warn just a little warn around the edges. The food was good. Not great. I had the wagyu beef and it was tough; not usually the case with wagyu. There were also a number of items that were "substituted" on the menu. Service was just off a bit. "Check backs" were slow to happen. Dinner was about $500 for the five of us. Not a terribly expensive meal had they been on the mark. But when you charge these kinds of prices you need to be on your game.
Corduroy Exceeding Expectations
The corduroy experience was wonderful. It exceed our whole parties' expectations considerably. The ambience, service and food was simply amazing. Wine list was good and complete. Presentation of food was quite nice. Everything was great!
Uneven and Slow
Corduroy's outstanding rating lured me in on a recent evening to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. She had been there before, and often commented that it was the best service of any restaurant in DC. So the only thing I can attribute our experience is perhaps an "off night" because despite a relatively late seating, these folks were slow, uneven, and the food, a fixed prix menu, took forever to arrive. The dishes were fine and well prepared, but not that unique in style or presentation. By the time desserts were due, my girlfriend asked if we could simply have the dessert put in a to go box because we had long since finished our bottle of wine and nothing had arrived. The ticket topped $350 so I was disappointed in our overall experience. I'll give this place another try, but not for a while.

Absolutely superb!! The food was outstanding and the service given by Jon and the other staff was excellent. It's wonderful to be able to talk without shouting! We celebrated our wedding here seven years ago and today it's still one of our favorite DC restaurants.
CORDOROY was crazy good!
This restaurant was highly recommended from friends--and we were overwhelmed with the ambience, the food, and the service! The menu selections were fun and interesting--and out of this world delicious--everything we ordered was superb! Joy was our server and she was phenomenal--so fun and she made great recommendations for us! We cannot wait to make another reservation at CORDOROY!
We plan to return!
My husband and I visited for the first time last month and enjoyed it so much that we will return soon for a birthday celebration with more family!

Food is always fantastic. Kudos to the chef. We had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings. And, they were able to accommodate an off-the-menu pasta dish for our son. Overall service was awesome with few minor hiccups from our main waiter. No big deal. We found out he was new. But, I have to give one less star due to one young fellow with full suit on who brought out our celery soup. Not only he wasn't courteous, he actually reached out over our short table gesturing for us to take the bowls and place them ourselves into our table. Odd way to serve in this type of restaurant, don't you think? Oh...I think the soup was chef's amuse bouche.
I booked one of their private room areas for my daughter's 18th birthday party. They were very accommodating. They offered, and did, to print a special menu that had "Happy 18th Birthday, Taylor" on it. We were under a very tight time frame, and they served 3 very good courses on time.
Fresh food, innvative and flavorful
Innovative preparations of fresh food prepared innovatively. Delicious, tasty. Knowledgeable waiter. Not fast food. Delightful evening.
Excellent food near Convention Center
Stayed at the Marquis and read positive reviews, so ventured north to Corduroy. This area is still in transition, an once the day is over there is not much activity from the Convention Center. The menu is an interesting blend of fresh options with a Japanese flair. Did not try the tasting menu, but sounded interesting in concept. Wait staff is excellent and well informed of all dishes.
Lovely Food & Service
Food is excellent; the fish was outstanding. Wine was delicious and fairly reasonably priced. Had a bite of bread pudding that was fabulous. Will go again and again.
To begin with, the restaurant provides a tranquil and QUIET atmosphere which tremendously enhances the dining experience. The menu is interesting without being weird and the food is well prepared and attractively presented. Check out their creative custom cocktails too!
We have been eating our way through a local magazine's 'best of washington restaurants' list, and after eating at Corduroy were surprised it's not ranked higher. We both ordered the tasting menu, which at $70 is a great value. My wife requested a vegetarian selection, of the five dishes, three of them were very good, a couple were good but not great. This is still better than what you get at most places when you try to eat vegetarian. The regular tasting menu was excellent, particularly the antelope special as well as a crispy monkfish dish. Overall, we would definitely go back.

New Year's eve dinner. Menu was absolutely fantastic!!! Chef's offered a 6 course menu including big eye tuna, pork belly and antelope!! A must try in DC.
Great food, good service, ok ambience
I picked this restaurant for dinner with visitors from out of town on New Year's Eve because 1. they have good reviews, 2. I've heard good things from friends, and 3. they had availability on relatively short notice. The special NYE tasting menu was very good; the service was good but very slow to start--we had to ask for serving to begin; and the corner we were in was chilly and that didn't change despite our bringing the issue to our waiter's attention. The overall ambiance for NYE was lower-key than we were hoping--it didn't feel special or celebratory. I would go here again but not to kick off a big night. Perhaps a date or quiet dinner with a few friends.

Experience was just ok for the price. The main courses were strongly over salted, the waitstaff inexperienced, and the wines were a bit overpriced. Not what we were expected from such a highly rated restaurant. The first course (lobster carpaccio) was delicious and the restaurant decor was understated and pleasant. Unfortunately it just wasnt enough to save the experience.
Continues to be a great place to eat
We've been going to Corduroy for many years at this and its prior location. It has always had excellent food. We've never had a bad dish cooked by chef Tom Power. They always have a bunch of appetizers with raw osters and soups topping the list. This visit our entrees were Crispy Striped Bass, rare big eye tuna, and guinea hen; all great. They have a choice of desserts and/or a variety of cheeses. Its a pretty room that has good sound deadening, so holding a conversation is easy (unlike most restaurants today).
Everything went exactly right for our Christmas Day dinner! The table was ready on time, the bar tender was knowledgeable and recommended appropriate cocktails, the prix fixe menu had items on it that everyone in our party could eat, special requests were accepted, wines were recommended for the appetizers and main courses which were as varied as the 7 people who were dining, the food was excellent and without fault, dessert choices were a bit limited but all the offered items were excellent and to each person's taste. If they offer a Christmas Day dinner again next year, we will certainly return, and we will be dining often during the coming year.
Fabulous food. Service so-so
We went to Corduroy for the Prix Fixe Christmas dinner. There were many choices for all three courses and the food was wonderful. First, the bread was soft and crunchy. We tried two different appetizers (Lobster salad, crab crepe) and the soup and we were all happy. The pork belly was the best I've ever had. It was more like a good short rib. Unfortunately, despite being told that only one of us could order the last sea bass we were told 15 minutes later that there were none left. We were offered salmon instead. We didn't try it. We got another pork belly The bread pudding, crisp chocolate bars and apple tart were all fabulous. However, our waiter was very friendly but made mistakes on the wine, my coffee, wrong on what was gluten free for one of us who is allergic, and the busmen never knew whose food went to whom. However, that would not stop us from returning for the great food.
Lovely Christmas Dinner
We brought friends with us on Christmas and enjoyed a delicious dinner. Between all of us I think we tried each of the choices and everything was perfect.
Very good food
Very good food made from fresh produce. The bst restaurant I've been to in DC in the past year.
