Delicious as Always
My Wife and I got a much needed date night and chose one of our local favorites in the Cobalt Grill. We have eaten there many times but this time was the best we have had so far. The beef wellington with foi gras was outstanding. Never had foi gras before and it added a delicious touch to the beef. Everything was superbly cooked all the way down to the spinach saute`d in a red wine reduction. Wife had the duck breast that was perfect as always. Our waiter was proffessional and upbeat and provided good suggestion from the wine list. We would highly recomend Cobalt to anyone!
Have heard positive things about Cobalt but have not gotten there. Was wonderful. We were early in the evening but service was as impeccable as the dishes excellent. Rack of lamb perfectly prepared to request and shrimp/scallop dish awesome. Wine list excellent with something for broad range of tastes. Definitely coming back to enjoy Cobalt Grille.
Best burgers in Virginia Beach.

Nice spin on things..
I really enjoyed the dining experience. Had their own take on every dish so it was not like eating at any other local eatery. Everything was very flavorful. I will surely be back... Service was outstanding
As always, great service, nice lunch selection from the specials. the wine list is excellent and an excellent value. It's a great and intimate spot for a lunch or dinner. The ravioli was excellent and my guest enjoyed their hamburger. Yes, hamburger, Cabalt has done a change from their original menu mean t=years ago, but this typical bar food is well done.
Burger and thick cut fries under cooked. I think they would have been good if cooked as I ordered.
Nice happening spot
Enjoyable meal at neighborhood spot. Good hangout. Will look forward to warmer weather for outdoor smoke. nice artwork inside...

Six of us went there for a birthday celebration during Restaurant Week. It was the first time for four of us and we all had a delicious meal (4 off the restaurant week menu and 2 off the regular dinner menu) . The pan roasted salmon was cooked perfectly, flounder with crabmeat topping and a pork dish were winners. The waitress that took care of us was very attentive considering it was a busy night. We will try it again on a different evening as it was clear many there were locals & weren't there for Restaurant Week.
Best Welcome to Virginia Beach!
This place was amazing! I took my wife for Valentines Day and we loved everything about it !
Great food and atmosphere.
A great place with excellent food. A little noisy but worth overlooking this for the food. Staff were also excellent, definitely worth trying
My wife and I had a wonderfully romantic evening on Valentine's Day. Our gorgonzola salads were excellent, the fish specials were outstanding, and our desserts topped off a perfect evening. Thank you Cobalt Grille.
The food did not live up to the hype
The food was not as good as expected. The service was not that great either from our waitress. We didn't even know her name until the check came with it on there. She seemed like she didn't want to be there at first, like we were bothering her . I don't know maybe she just had a long day. I will give it one more try though before I say it is not a good place to eat.
Based on the previous reviews, I was not disappointed! Food was outstanding, service was prompt and friendly and the atmosphere was as expected. Noise level may be above the norm of fine dining, but my wife and I agreed that the level was not uncomfortable and most of it was from happy and content customers. Very good wine list at moderate pricing. A must dine when in Virginia Beach!
Great for romantic dates
Hubby and I have gone to Cobalt twice, once just for dinner and once for valentine's day. There menu changes often and they have daily specials. There food is delicious all the time though. They have incredible creme brulé. Something to look for when you go: portobello fries!!! Great service, and friendly staff. We will definitely go back there again!!
I love the food here! Top notch chef!
I have eaten at this restaurant several times and am always pleased with their service but most of all their food.
Cobalt Grille is an excellent place for dinner. The service is always impeccable, the ambiance is fun and the food is perfection.

Tuesday is burger night. Half price for regular menu burgers, and reduced prices on specials. Great burgers with fresh ingredients. Excellent service, well paced.
Cobalt is always a good time and delicious. Alvin runs a wonderful kitchen. The staff is attentive and kind. Don't miss out on Tuesdays burger night. They have the best burgers in town.

Delicious food and excellent service as usual. There is a reason for us coming back. 😊
We come here all the time for the great food and friendly staff.
Enjoyed a Saturday night out at Cobalt. Great wines , good friend & food . The house special filet shrimp scampi ordered medium rare came rare. Usually cooked to perfection missed the mark . We enjoyed the evening and will definitely go back . Can get loud if you are looking for a quiet romantic dinner though.
Perfect night out for our group celebration!
The food was delicious as always! The filet mignon was cooked to perfection. Everybody in the group liked their entrée and would order it again.
Delicious midweek dinner!
My Mom and I shared a delightful evening at Cobalt Grill. We were seated at a cozy booth that was just right for conversation. Our server was helpful, prompt, and well trained. I ordered salmon with crabmeant and lobster on top with a lemon beurre blanc, served with roasted asperagus and mashers. It was delicious, perfectly cooked and beautiful on the plate. Mom had shrimp risotto that she said was also wonderful, the shrimp large and the risotto creamy and well seasoned. I look forward to going to Cobalt Grill again!
Went for burgers. Tasted great. Good service. Will go again.
Good food - Impossible to hear
Our waitress was lovely and the food was really good, but the noise made conversation impossible. We even moved tables to try to find quiet. It's a shame because it's a nice local hangout with food we like, but we would not go back.
New Year's Eve
First of all, service was excellent. The restaurant was packed and our server never missed a beat. She made recommendations that turned out great. The wine was reasonably priced. The food for each of our party of four was spot on. We had Flounder, Duck, Scallops, and Salmon for entrees, Oysters on the half shell and Fried Mushrooms for appetizers and the Lava Cake and Dim Sum donuts for desert. A good time was had by all. We will be back.
Not your ordinary hamburger joint!
We told our out of town visitor that we were just going to grab a burger for dinner. Being polite she did not defer from our choice. Wow! Was she surprised by the Tuesday night special burgers cooked to perfection exactly as ordered. Another hit was the goat cheese appetizer (my favorite).
Went there on a week night. Staff was on point the whole night. Scallop appetizer was delicious with the perfect sear. Wife and daughter had the scallop and shrimp with risotto and I had the lamb chops. Seafood dishes had plentiful portions and the shellfish was cooked perfectly. Lamb was cooked perfectly to mid rare, although portion seemed a bit skimpy for the price. Risotto on all entrees were under seasoned but well cooked.
The Thanksgiving menu was fabulous! It was a set four-course meal with wine pairing. Each course had multiple options. All the food was great! Pricing was unexpectedly reasonable. I highly recommend this for both date night and a nice, family dinner (perhaps only older children).
Our third Cobalt Thanksgiving - it's a tradition!
Our family is small, and we enjoy eating out with strangers, reflecting the first Thanksgiving. We don't like the wretched excess of buffet dinners, and Cobalt Grille fits our needs perfectly - an unpretentious ambiance, pleasant waitstaff who seem genuinely to enjoy their work, and a Thanksgiving prix fixe menu that offers just enough choices to please everyone and feel a bit more special than just ordering off a standard menu. Options are a memorable she-crab soup for a starter (or tomato basil), choice of mesclun or caesar salad, and entrée of traditional turkey dinner, duck breast, pork, or salmon - with dessert choice of apple or pumpkin pie or chocolate cake. Same price for any option, and I think it was $27 per person, very thrifty. There are drink specials (pumpkintini and others) or patrons can order from the full drink menu (I had a kir royale that would have been perfect with Thanksgiving turkey.) My salmon was perfectly cooked, moist and delicious, with a nice dill cream sauce and asparagus and mashed potatoes. Other entrées also pleased, and the salads were crisp and fresh. What merited the 4 rather than 5 stars? The desserts are clearly not housemade and are mediocre at best. I would love to see the kitchen offer a very simple housemade dessert - maybe an apple crumble - with something like a scoop of pumpkin ice cream for those who need that pumpkin fix. The regular coffees arrived hot, but the decaf and expresso were barely tepid. My expresso arrived with a cute little rock sugar stirring stick. Had the expresso been hot, it would have dissolved and been delightful. The asparagus had not had its woody ends broken off, as I discovered when the fibers caught between my teeth. I would like to give 4 1/2 stars, but the small things made a 5 inappropriate. Overall, a very satisfactory meal, and we are definitely Cobalt fans. Very nice wine list, too!
15 Years of Inconsistency
My wife and I recently relearned what all Hampton Roads area foodies already know about Cobalt Grille during its decade and a half existence. When Chef/Owner Alvin Williams is present at his restaurant, he provides a superb and eclectic dining experience. However, when he is away the presentation, food, and service is mediocre at best. On 11/7/15, my wife and I took a first-time couple to Cobalt Grille and suffered through cold Scallops Rockefeller, cool Duck, over-priced and cold rack of lamb, and an over-cooked Filet Napoleon (the house specialty). We also endured an over-friendly and sarcastic waiter who was too busy cracking jokes and telling us his resume (only at Cobalt for 3 weeks) to be attentive to our table. The only salvation was dessert which was up to the high standard inspired by Mr. Williams. If you plan to visit Cobalt Grille, call ahead and make sure Alvin Williams will be present for your visit.
Unimpressive and underwhelming
For a $100 + dinner for two, it was unimpressive. Food presentation was nice but quality was mediocre. Service was adequate but not great. Place was noisy but it was a bar/restaurant. Ambiance was modern and adequate for a higher priced restaurant.
This is my favorite restaurant in VA Beach. My duck was a little over cooked this last time I went but I think it was because they were slammed. It was $8 burger night and the wait was pretty long. I have had their duck & lamb on other nights and it was perfection. We had an amazing appetizer special, clans in a parmasian blue cheese cream sauce, I really hope they add it to the menu! !!!
Recent Business Dinner
I dine for business dinners often, and love the food and service. However, this recent dinner didn't go as well. The service was quite slow, and the risotto wasn't very good. I know it was an anomaly, and I will go back again with customers soon.
Our meal was wonderful, as always. We're never disappointed with regular menu items or chef's specials.

This was our first time eating here and we really enjoyed it and will return. My wife had the duck and it was delicious. I had the shrimp and scallops and it was very good. The calamari appetizer was done just right.

Love this restaurant! Always great food and service.
I bought this group on because we were planning to visit the beach. It was so much more than the "grill" I expected. Got my favorite dish(duck) and can't wait to go back!
