Chianti Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This is our favorite restaurant in San Diego...and there are soooo many! My daughter and I go there every year for her B-day. This was our 4th in a row. I highly recommend Chianti. The food is exceptional and the wait staff are THE BEST! Thanks again for a great experience!

Server was awesome. Loved the lasagna, Petite Sirah, and spinach salad. Whenever I am in San Diego, I lunch there.
Over an hour to get food!
Totally unacceptable delay in getting food with no explanation. They threw in a few free cappuccinos and desserts but still charged their standard 18% service charge for parties of six or more. Arguably, we weren't even six people since one had to leave before ever getting her food.
Awesome food and very knowledgeable and attentive staff.

The lobster bisque, wine, salmon and ravioli were all excellent! The only course that put a damper on our meal was the dressing for the spinach and kale salad. It ruined the taste of the salad, which was fresh and crisp and should have complimented our meal.

I think the portions were small and overpriced. The red wine I ordered was not at the correct temperature and therefore it did not taste well. We were not offered dessert but had to ask when our waiter was trying to present us with our bill. We had to ask a second time for bread to be brought out as well. PS: They were NOT busy in there at this time of day, 5 PM.

Delish!!! Always a gem!
I have been to Chianti several times, and each time it's always a fantastic experience as well as impressive food! I have had many different things on the menu, but my favorite entree is the Pesto Gniochi with shrimp! The staff is always pleasant and it's clear that they want you to have a great dining experience!
Overpriced for the quality of food
Chianti's food was decent but overpriced. You can definitely find a better Italian restaurant in the San Diego neighborhood - just make reservations before! I was dissatisfied with the amount of money I paid for my food vs the quality of it. I got the Lobster Ravioli and it was bland and oily.. it was also $32 and only came with 6 small raviolis - so that says it all.

Showed up for our reservation but not sure the "checked us in" on Open Table. Entree my mother ordered wasn't available but restaurant charged us for dish we didn't order! Had to return to restaurant after theatre to have charge adjusted. Overall, service was okay but food was mediocre - a restaurant for tourists. My dish was labeled "spicy" but when it arrived it was anything but. Just another overpriced Gaslamp money trap. Will not go back.
My wife and I were looking forward to a nice meal. When we arrived for an early reservation we were about the only ones there. That soon changed and despite having multiple tables open and the back portion of the restaurant empty, they chose to sit people right next to each other. The hostess and waitress were friendly but the service was slow ( not enough wait staff). I had the seafood linguini which was supposed to come in a spicy red sauce. The seafood was overcooked and the sauce was tasteless, it didn't even taste like tomatoes and there was no spiciness to it. My wife had pasta and shrimp and the same was true of her meal. Overcooked shrimp and tasteless sauce. I hoped I could say better things but it really was an average meal at best
Best Italian in San Diego
Excellent service. The beef carpaccio is the best I've had since I had it made personally for me by an Italian chef. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection. My friends enjoyed theirs too. The menu is a little pricey, but well worth it. If you get there on a night when the special is Osso Bucco, don't hesitate! The wine choices were good, too. As far as the notable Italian restaurants in San Diego, Chianti is the top choice for me when I travel there.

Very disappointing experience and very overpriced. Service started off well but then deteriorated. Timing of food delivery was way off and seemed rushed. The fish in my dish was dry and overcooked and the sauce completely tasteless. The restaurant itself could do with an overhaul. Save your money!!

Food and service oustanding! Tables are really close together so it isn't very quiet and doesn't feel private.
Best restaurant in San Diego
This is the second time I have eaten at Chianti. The first was over a year ago. Both times..... Excellent. The serve the best lamb Chops I have ever had. Two at the table got Sea Bass, two lamb Chops. Both were very good. Food is presented in a great way. Chef comes out to make sure you are happy. Wine list very reasonably priced. It was our last meal in San Diego after a week of meetings, and just prior to a red eye home, and it was definitely a great meal to finish off our trip.
Very nice evening with 6 of us!
Our server was very attentive. The wine we all chose was perfect, the food was hot when it arrived at the table and each dish delicious! Reasonably priced for atmosphere, food & service.

I love going to this restaurant. I discovered Chianti's about 16 years while in San Diego for a conference and have been making it a must eat at restaurant every time I visit San Diego. The service is outstanding and the food is amazing.
Go with the Italian Menu Choices
The calamari was excellent as an appetizer. My steak with peppercorn sauce was OK; the preparation was fine, but the quality of the meat was poor for a restaurant of this quality and for the price charged.

The service was terrible. Waiter forgot our order. It took 50 min to get our appetizer. The waiter did not tell bartender the correct drink I wanted. I had to send drink back and wait 20 min for that to be addressed. I thought the food was ok. I hoped for better experience on New Years Eve since we had early reservation.
They had a guy come around and told you he was taking free restaurant promo photos, and you would get one free. he took a shot of my girlfriend and I across from each other at the table. Then he took a 2d one with her next to me. After the meal, he cam by and gave us a 4x6 promo post card with the 1st picture very small. then he had better shots and the 2d photo with frames, and tried to sell us. I didn't appreciate being hustled when I spent the money I did for the meal. I think they try to guilt the men into buying at least one for their date, so they don't look cheap or otherwise not wanting a souvenir with their date.
Food was great as was table. Our waiter, Tommy, went the extra mile. Well done. Food was exceptional.
A little slice of Italy in the Gaslamp
We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and very pleased with the service overall. We chose to sit outside and experience the hustle and bustle of the pedestrian traffic in the gaslamp, so if you're not up for everyone checking out your plate as they go by, then definitely ask for a table inside. The wine list was excellent and they'd just created a special on a Super Tuscan, so that was an unexpected surprise.
Group of 14 clients. The service was the best I have ever had. Felt like we were the only ones in the restaurant and the place was busy. Food was really good. 100% of the group loved it and we had a great time.
Good Service + Good Food = Happy
We ordered the calamari and vonggole for appetizer and it was awesome for 4 people it is just enough made room for the main course me and my wife shared the seafood pasta and my daughter and her boyfriend shared the lobster ravioli both entree was exceptional highly recommend both dish. Our server was very helpful and attentive provided us the special of the day and recommend other food items. We went to this place during the start of the Restaurant week but according to our waitress that normally this restaurant participated on the previous years but this time is not.
The service and ambiance were great. My wife had the lasagna which she would say was good but not great. I had the Linguine Vongole which was just so and so. The sauce was not very remarkable although the clams and pasta were good. I would have to sample other items on their menu to form a firm opinion of this restaurant. I would come back if only try other items.
Our go to Italian in the gaslamp
Once again, excellent meal at Chianti. Great service, wonderful menu, nice atmosphere. great before a ball game
Nice Place with Indifferent Food
Pleasant place. Good service. Food was unimpressive: salad just fair, fish-of-the-day not particularly sweet and heavily over-sauced. Best part of the dinner was the house-made cannoli. You can do a lot better at this price point (or less) in the area.
Some items are a little pricey but we'll worth it! I had the ribeye which was cooked to perfection, my niece and mother both ordered pasta which was prepared fresh and both said their dishes were amazing. The meal rivaled those we've had in Italy!

The service was terrible. We waited 30 minutes and a waiter never arrived at our table so we walked out.
Italian on 5th San Diego
I was searching for the best of the best list for San Diego’s Italian food options. As I was thumbing through the fact this spot was in the Gaslamp district was awesome because I wanted more of a downtown vibe. Hostess was polite attentive and professional – Waiter was a kick from the get go and full of wit. I thought the meats and lobster was cooked to perfection and the best part was – over conversation they learned that one of the diners birthday was being celebrated and they come out with a little heavenly dessert with a single lit candle – it was awesome!
Staff was super welcoming and really worked to accommodate myself and my gluten allergy, which is huge! Gluten free penne was really well cooked and delicious, my whole family loved their dishes as well (crab ravioli, pesto gnocchi, and short rib tube pasta). Not something in my normal price range, but perfect for celebrating a special event!
Yummy Italian in the heart of downtown
My niece was running the Rock and Roll marathon and we needed and place for her to carb load, what we got was an excellent restaurant. I loved the beet salad, and ravioli. Everyone had something different and it was really good. You can eat inside , or outside and people watch in the happening area. I know you won't been disappointed.

The food wasn't great, but it was good. Not too pricey. Good wine list. The service was above average but not exceptional. The seating felt crowded. The dessert (tiramisu) and coffee were by far the best part of the meal.
