Campania Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Best Fine cuisine miles around
This is our 3rd visits. A bit pricy but totally worth it! Fine cuisine at its best! However, if you are returning specially to eat something you previously had, it might not be in their menu that changes frequently. I checked online their menu before going and the online menu was not yet changed so what we had in mind to eat was no longer in the menu. What we ended up ordering veal cutlets was also excellent. Nice romantic restaurant with space in between tables. We were surprise on how fast the service and food was...maybe a tiny bit too fast. In and out in 30 minutes.

We are frequent diners and was somewhat disappointed that the Ravioli, and the Rigatoni were much saltier the any other time we ordered them.

I loved the feel of this restaurant, but was quite unimpressed with the food. The salmon was swimming in butter. That is usually my go-to healthy option, but it was just sitting in a bath of butter (that tasted like movie theatre popcorn butter). I thought the appetizers were good, but was not impressed with the entrees.
Wonderful Italian restaurant just past busy main
Campagna has been here for several years now and consistently provides delicious italian cuisine. Now with Davidson's busy main st. from Depot to the Town Hall, it is often overlooked. The food is very good just recommend you get something without too many different focal points because then you lose the different tastes. The specials are always worth getting. Great service - just the right amount of attention! And we weren't rushed from our table - really got to enjoy our meal and evening out with friends.
not a good first impression
Four main courses took over one hour and when received, one was lukewarm and the other was cold, upon "reheating" the veal tough as cardboard, (probably microwaved). No floor supervision, no checker in the kitchen, harried waitstaff, altogether an impression of a very, very disorganized place. The waiter was apologetic and gracious to discount our bill but overall, very difficult to change a first impression.

We always enjoy dinner at Campania. Delicious apps, excellent pasta entrees, and you must save room to share a dessert and their incredibly good coffee.
Great Food / Wine but missing out on dessert again
Always Love Coming here for a Wonderful dinner and wine, but they were short on what is available for dessert again, they have a Fantastic Tiramisu, but this is the third time they were out. Something seems a miss here over the past year.
Authentic Italian - from the fresh caprese and formaggi platters to the delicate and flavorful tiramisu; all food was delicious. Would have liked to have seen a more extensive selection of Italian wines (Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, etc), but the Chianti was definitely good enough.
Food was cold.
Salads were goo. Main course was cold and bread was hot outside and ice cold in. Clearly bread was frozen. We have had great meals at Campania and this one was just so so.
Was disappointed in our app, and the bar overall - servers make the drinks and most don't know how to make basic, classic cocktails. Stick to the wine list.
Went there on the last night of an extended restaurant week. That was the only dining option; regular menu not presented so it should have been simple, right? Reservation at 7:15 . . . at 9:05 we had only had salads. Server made some sort of explanation about order mix-up and when food arrived you could tell it had been rushed. My pasta dish was good but my friend's salmon was way undercooked and another dish (steak) had inedible sides (potatoes and asparagus you could not cut with a knife). First and last visit for me. Too many excellent restaurants around.

Was the best decision my husband and I made trying it for the first time during restaurant week Great staff and great food. We were greeted right away with warm smiles and hellos then seated very promptly The pork chop dish was my choice...fried to perfection with cheese and prosciutto covered with an arugula salad......was juicy and is my new favorite (Have been craving it since we left ). My husband had the lasagna which was outstanding as well Bar is very cute and the espresso martini is fabulous A must try for all and a place I plan to visit often

The meal was overall ok, but I was mostly disappointed with our entree. We had the NY strip and it was a very tough cut. Both our steaks were very fatty and grizzly, and it did not help that the steak knives were very cheap and dull. I wasn't even able to cut my asparagus. Also, wobbley table did not help anything
Slow service and sub par meal
Well the evening started out great. We placed our orders, drinks & bread came out followed by the appetizers, which were very good. However, the Sangria tasted more like fruit punch w/wine in it, very sugary & too sweet. Plus our waiter seemed to completely forget about us. Moreover, he didn't put in the orders for our entrees until after the appetizers came to the table. It was an hour later after we were seated before we would receive our main meals which was said to be held up by the lasagna I had ordered. This only led to someone having cold food, which she sent back to be warmed up. It didn't help, because as she called it, "it tasted like Chinese takeout when you warm it up in the microwave," & then the pasta was just kinda of ok. And no wonder the piece of lasagna took for so long, it was huge! Not that I'm complaining about the size, but if the cooks knew it would take longer to make than the rest of the food, that should have been put in first. I did take it home, however, when I went to eat my leftovers, that's when I found that the bottom of it had been completely burned. Eating a piece of charred pasta is GROSS. Getting back to the meal itself, I felt like our waiter was either out on his first day of work, or he was just really timid & didn't know how to act around customers. I couldn't understand a word that he said 1/2 the time because he was talking so low & then he came back to ask if we still wanted our desert. Um yes, if you're going to make us sit here for an 1 1/2 hours, you better believe I want my Tiramisu. While the person whose food was cold was comped, when the check came they had upcharged us for the Sangria I'm guessing for the other person's meal who was comped that ordered wine. Um no, if the Sangria only costs $19 that split 3 ways does not equal $9 a person. If that's what they were trying to do, they should have just given her a bill for her wine & have been done w/ it instead of having to redo our checks so we could pay correctly.
Needs a few improvements
I attended during Restaurant Week. Atmosphere is very nice, except for the occasional loud noise when the heater turns on. Very romantic if it weren't for the start-up noise. Salmon was a bit tough had too many tomatoes on top - hid the taste of the fish. Service was very timely on a Tuesday night - light crowd.
Great find and authentic Italian food
So happy to have found this lovely neighborhood restaurant with delicious Italian food, great service and rustic atmosphere.

This was the worst experience I'd ever had at Campania. My food was hardly warm when it first came out. On the second try it wasn't much better. The meat in the dish was chewy. Our server was inattentive. Another server had to take my food back. We won't be back!
This was our first visit to this place. The building is historic, and quite nice. The food was very tasty. They were shorthanded on the night we went so the service was slow. We will try it again on another night. Definitely worth going back to.
Not as good as past experiences there
Love this restaurant - usually - and usually its tough to get a table. This past week it was a very average experience from the lackluster server/service and the same food that we had loved in the past just wasn't up to their usual high standards. Would still recommend this restaurant as I have been wowed by it in the past several times, this was just an off night in several key ways.
Not a great Davidson find :-(
Food was below average as well as the service. Was hoping for a cool neighborhood place and disappointed. The wine bar looked good however.
Great family Experience
We joined together for dinner before Grandchildren sang at Christmas in Davidson. We had 5 children and 8 adults. Everything was great; the food, the wine, the service and thankfully, the children's behavior.

Great chicken marsala, great gnocchi, kids loved their noodles perfectly cooked to al dente.
We have been to Campania many times. This time not so good. My husbands eggplant parm was not all the way cooked and the pasta had way too much sauce on it and it didn't taste the same . My meal of stuffed ravioli with squash was delicious tho. Also the grilled romaine had way too much oil on it. Soggy. Very disappointed this time.
My last visit to Campania was not good, albeit during Restaurant Week, so I was happy to find that our service was better and everything on the menu we ordered was available, although the rolls, which are usually to die for, were well-toasted on top. We ordered the meat and cheese appetizer for the first time which was very good. I had the veal cutlets which I did not care for (it was the first time I've tried veal); my companion ordered the pork chop which is a favorite of both of us. Unfortunately, the fig salad, the mixed berry pastry (dessert) or the butternut squash have returned to the menu. Seasonal maybe, but I'm missing them!
Love this place and go there 5-6 times a year but I think I caught them on a bad night last week. The waitress seemed flustered all night and they really weren't that busy compared to normal. I've never had a problem at all with the food but this time the gnocchi really weren't cooked enough; still a bit mushy and the meatballs that I love we're a bit overdone and dry. I'll write it off to a fluke and be back again soon.
We went to Campania thinking that we would have an intimate Italian meal. The food was just blah with the veal tough, the Caesar salad not a Caesar salad and the value just not there.
I like Campania Café !
So much has made Campania Café is a destination and conversation-starter as its history as the old Davidson Icehouse, but for first-timers the surprise always begins with the building itself. Once originally an icehouse, it is a one level, roomy constructed brick building with the original features. Without the restaurant's sign out front it could be mistaken for a distribution antique shop or clothing exchange. It is one of the historical sites in Davidson deserving a visit. Not just because of the historical reference, but the excellent food and great service will bring dinners back again and again. If you cannot tell, I like Campania Café !
Incredibly great food, bad service
Husband and I went for date night. The food is amazing, once you actually get it. We arrived relatively hungry at 7:30 and sat in the bar area. Even though many walked by us, it took a good five minutes to get a drink ordered. We then quickly ordered food. As we sat for the next 50 minutes waiting on an appetizer and two salads to arrive, servers walked by many times. Our drinks went empty and we had to ask for water refills. At 8:25 we were told our food hadn't been prepared bc of a printer problem at the app/salad station. I understand mistakes happen. But surely, you would think a manager would come out to offer a drink on the house or comp something. We were charged for all food and drink after waiting 85 minutes for food. Unbelievable. This isn't our first time at Compania. We've been there at least 5 other times. The food, like I said, is wonderful and probably the only thing keeping them open. It certainly isn't the customer service, as we've had issues nearly each time there.
Another fantastic meal @ this wonderful restaurant
My husband and I had a craving for Campania -we have never been let down and it worth the drive for us! We were fortunate to have the opportunity to be seated on the front porch, which we loved - live music made the evening complete!! Friendly and efficient service and marvelous food - love that they do not rush you and it is always exciting to hear what the chef has changed on the menu. We will be back - sooner rather than later!
Great place to go
My wife and I have been here two years in a row and will keep coming back. We reserve through open table and when we show up we are greeted by name by some of the friendliest staff that Ive ever seen.
I decided to go to this restaurant for a client dinner based on the reviews. The menu looked wonderful and the reviews were great. The food was just average and not what I was expecting. The other dinners felt exactly the same. First time Open Table has let me down.
This was our second time for dinner. They now have a new menu! The food was excellent and our waiter was good. The salads were delicious --- sorry no room for dessert... Mushroom ravioli, veal, chicken Parmesan and seafood special all very good.
Great food and atmosphere!
We enjoyed it a lot -- good food and atmosphere and really quiet. I wish they would expand or change their menu up a little though. Offer more salads and lighter fare. But overall great and I would go back.
The food that was offered as our second choice was really good, but a 7:30pm reservation resulted in them running out of salmon & one of the draft beers.
My fiancé and I stopped by Campaina during the Charlotte Restaurant Week! We were so impressed with the overall service and especially the food!! My steak was cooked to perfection and my fiancé Lasagna was tasty as well. The food is nicely proported, so you definitely get a bang for your buck! The cocktail drinks are AMAZING!!! Definitely stop by and give Campaina a try!!!
Campania has been a favorite for some time now, but we were terribly disappointed this past visit. Unfortunately, we were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. I made reservations a couple of weeks in advance and requested a special table; we were not seated where requested. It seemed they were understaffed. Our waitress didn't come to our table for what seemed an eternity to get our drink order. There was no bartender on staff; the wait staff was also having to mix drinks. I didn't get to enjoy my favorite drink (or even my #2 drink on the menu) as both have Raspberry Vodka and they were out of Raspberry Vodka. Once our waitress appeared to take our order, she was not helpful with our questions in trying to decide what we might order and in fact, suggested she take someone else's order while we continued to look at the menu. We weren't about to let her get away given how long it took for her to get to us! Bread was hot and delicious as usual. We both ordered the "NY strip", which we are certain was not any sort of "strip" at all. It was a large flat patty of meat, and RAW along the outside edges. Very, very disappointing experience. We will return, but if we have another experience like this, it will be our last visit.
This was my third or fourth visit to Campania during restaurant week. The food this time seemed to lack its former quality. I also felt that our server seemed less professional. Disappointed.

Love coming here. Know the food will be great and service first class. You can bring guests and know they will have great experience.
Great neighborhood find!
The food was good and the portion sizes where large. We had a very enjoyable dinner. The only complaint that we had was that our service was so slow. We had a 7 p.m. reservation and it was after 9 before we left. Was told that they only served micro brews, but they had no beer list to look at.

Food was delicious. Service was attentive but not intrusive, and they did not rush you.
