Cafe Marbella Tapas Ratings and Reviews
Tapas in Chicago
Nice neighborhood tapas spot. Feels like a family-run business. Place filled with locals, not tourists. Very friendly service. Food good, not great.
a memorable experience!
As always, the food and service were excellent. If you like tapas, you have to visit this restaurant. In addition to an extensive regular menu, there are always specials available. Try the avocado salad and the goat cheesecake. On this occasion we ordered dessert first--to make sure there would be cheesecake available at the end of the meal!
Loved the food. We got there on Sunday at 1:00 pm and were the only ones in the restaurant. Food was great,
Great time great price
Went on a date befriended an older couple who are regulars should have brought 2 bottles instead of 1 other than that great food I went on a Thursday night. I heard weekends are packed

We generally liked the food at Marbella's. We had the calamari, the portobello mushroom, a warm salad, Pollo a la Navarra and the grilled Mahi Mahi special. We really liked the first four plates, but the Mahi Mahi was too salty (the accompanying avocado/tomato salad was very good though). We will likely be going back to try other menu options.

Our food was outstanding and the service was very good until the end of the meal. Once we slowed down in ordering tapas our server disappeared - for at least 15 minutes - and we had to seek out our bill.
LOVE CAFE MARBELLA
I regularly go to this restaurant that was introduced to me by a friend. The food and service is amazing and I cannot get enough of the bacon wrapped figs.
Best tapas value
Café Marbella as the most interesting and creative tapas in the city. We come here all the time and even though the menu items are great, we find the specials of the day are really outstanding. If you like fish you will be in heaven too!
Neighborhood Gem with Amazing Tapas
The unassuming exterior of this restaurant belies the freshness and high quality of Cafe Marbella's food. Cafe Marbella's tapas are possibly the best tapas in Chicago, far better in my opinion than Cafe Iberico and other well-known tapas places. The chicken strips in red wine sauce were the only disappointment as these were too salty. The avocado salad, artichoke hearts, mussels in white wine cream sauce, lamb meatballs, and the baked goat cheese were perfectly prepared. Marbella's vinaigrette dressing on the salads had perfect balance of citrus and spices that made us want more. I wonder if they could bottle and sell their vinaigrette as I would love enjoying it on my dinner salad. The dated Spanish-style decor suits this restaurant and makes dining a laid back and casual experience. The dining room could use a little more space in the front for diners waiting to be seated. It was uncomfortable standing in the dining room and getting bumped and jostled by other diners leaving the restaurant and busboys and servers frantically running food to tables. Or maybe the restaurant needs to be able to seat diners faster; when we arrived there was no host to greet us and seat us for a good 3 minutes. The service could use some fine-tuning, especially with refilling waters and clearing the tables to make room for new dishes.

BYOB. Wish I would have known sooner but they have no alcohol service.
If you like tapas, you'll love this restaurant. Not only is the regular menu extensive, but there are nightly specials. Don't miss the avocado/goat cheese salad or the guava goat cheese cake. Both are amazing! Also, since this is a BYOB place, it's a real bargain.
A Neighborhood Gem.
A neighborhood gem. My only issue, potatoes with aioli need more garlic and are WAY too cold (partially frozen.)
A really nice restaurant for NW siders!
I was pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and the tapas selection was impressive. I would definitely go back again for the value, and for the BYOB opportunity to save money and have a great night out dining with friends, and as well, because it is close to home for me on the NW side of Chicago. I love Spanish food and tapas. I need to go back to try the Paella, which will really tell me more, but looking at others eating it at other tables, it did look good! The only disappointment was that although the servers were lovely, they seemed understaffed for the crowd. We probably would have ordered more but the wait changed our minds. Still, I would recommend. Its not as good as Cafe BaBaReba, but it did come close!
After Theatre/BYOB Gem!
We are always looking for late night dining and/or BYOB restaurants and this was an excellent find, although it was a little out of the way, well worth it. We only had tapas dishes and they were very good. Highly recommend this neighborhood gem.

Amazing food!! Have been recommending it all week!!!!
I have never experienced a Spaniard place before so I have no comparison but I must admit the food was amazing and very reasonably priced. However, I have a few problems with the service. I had made a reservation and it took 10 minutes for a hostess to seat me, I was standing around for a while. Then it took about 25-30 for me to flag down a waitress just to put an order in. Not once was I checked up on. Disappointed in that regard.

The waitress was very helpful and funny. We were 16 international people but she took amazing care of us. Her menu recommendations were perfect for each person. The food was absolutely delicious!
Cafe Marbella is my family's favorite restaurant. In addition to its extensive menu, there are always amazing specials. We love the concept of tapas--small plates to be shared--and the fact that it's BYOB . A wide choice of desserts is available--large enough to share. Try the goat cheesecake if it's available. My daughter and I are fans! Finally, the prices are very reasonable.
The main menu is diverse ,with many gems, but the specials ,both written and unwritten are always top notch.I have dined here more times than I care to count, and most times it is hard to decide which dish was the .one word says it all WOW.
We were going to a concert at Copernicus Center and wanted a place nearby. Cafe Marbella is one of the places recommended so we decided to give it a try. BYOB was a big plus. The food is delicious, the service very professional. We started with three plates - special salad for the night with avocado, goat cheese and bacon; grilled squid and artichoke hearts stuffed with crab and lobster. All were delicious, tho the salad was my favorite. Also had the 3 fish special that night, the sea bass, the stuffed figs and I can't remember what else. AND two desserts - flan and a chocolate/espresso wedge which really made my mouth happy. And when the bill was presented we were shocked - in a very pleasant way! It isn't in our neighborhood, but we will be back. It is worth a special trip.
Authentic Spanish food
Great authentic Spanish food, friendly atmosphere and excellent value. We've been there five times and will go back more!
A hidden gem in Jefferson Park!
Even after traveling to Spain and trying various tapas bar, Cafe Marabella definitely surpasses all expectations. The service, food and atmosphere is wonderful.
a favorite restaurant!
This is a wonderful local restaurant. In addition to the regular menu, there are nightly specials. If you like the concept of tapas--small portions, shared--you'll love this place. And there's always a wide selection of seafood available. This is a BYOB restaurant, so the bill is always low. My 3 friends and I ordered 6 tapas and 2 desserts and paid about $88 plus tip.
Great food and great value
This restaurant has a wide assortment of tapas, and we have enjoyed almost every one we tried. Many good non-meat as well as meat choices. Service is efficient and helpful when necessary. We have recommended this restaurant to many friends over the past two or three years, and everyone without exception has enjoyed it.

What a gem Cafe Marbella is! My wife and I have eaten there probably a dozen times and every time we had an outstanding meal. Any friends we've taken there invariably leave saying it's the best Spanish restaurant they've ever gone to. I won't bother to describe last night's meal but just will say the regular menu is varied and excellent and the nightly specials are even better. Everything is always creative (particularly the specials), perfectly cooked, and nicely presented. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are quite reasonable and the BYO policy makes it even better. There's even free street parking. How can you say no?
The Best Tapas!
This is absolutely my favorite restaurant, Tapas or otherwise, in all of Chicago. BYOB, combined with neighborhood hospitality, and the delicious and inventive food that NEVER disappoints, all at fair and affordable prices, you can't get any better. I'm glad it's just enough out of the way off the beaten path so that mobs of people don't ruin it.
BEST food in town!
We LOVE Cafe Marbella Tapas - such a great menu - with a specials menu - then a VERBAL menu, too - you can't go wrong! prices are beyond reasonable and the BYOB notion is terrific. good for an intimate table for 2 or a few feast tables of revelers. try it all!! This family run operation is magnificent - and they work hard to keep their customers happy and returning!

Went here on a recomandation and had a great time. The food was very good and it's BYOB. Service was good but hard to understand the waitress when she talked to fast. Tables were a little tight but we didn't mind keep it cozy. We will definitly go back.

Food was just okay. Too many dishes sounded/tasted very similar. Quail was dry but squid was exceptional.
Always a good time
Love this byob tapas restaurant. They are always welcoming. The food was great this time. The specials change all the time and we usually order off the specials list. Love that it's byob. Great place for groups.

Great food in a wonderful neighborhood location. BYOB
Food was phenomenal.
So happy to find a place with quality food that you can actually go to on the weekend.
We've come here regularly and always had a terrific dining experience. The specials really are just that - special. There's always something new to try and the seafood has always been impeccable.
I'm so excited to have discovered Café Marbela right in my new neighborhood. We can walk there, and I'm sure it will become our "go to" restaurant for a great night out. The fish was so delicious: fresh, fresh, fresh. Our friends, who just returned from a trip to Spain, thought the food here was just as good or superior to what they had there. We had a great time. Lovely atmosphere, lively clientele, comfortable seating.
