Buddakan NY Ratings and Reviews
More like a club than a restaurant
The music was so loud and pulsating that we could not have a conversation over dinner. If you are looking for more of a club/bar scene with good food, and lots of drinking, this is the place. Not the place for a great dinner and conversation. Also the crowd is 30 and under...
great as always
great food, great service, great restaurant! Would high recommend
Had a Friday 9pm reservation but did not get seated til 9.45!! We were starving and tired and the very loud music at the bar didnt help. Was more like a club than restaurant. The staff member who took us to our table was apologetic but he even told us he hates working fridays because of the chaos! Food came quickly. Our chicken dish was dry and below average on taste but the black cod made up for it. If you are more interested in being at the restaurant compared to eating at the restaurant, then this place is for you. Wouldnt go again but will recommend if you are into the dark, loud trendy scene.
The food is great here!
I can't say enough good things about this place. YOU MUST try it out!!

Good cocktails and dim sum. Did not care for the black dragon chicken. Rock shrimp and dumplings were amazing. Cauliflower pop was different and interesting. Service was rushed. Felt like they were just trying to turn a table. Very pricey for what you get.

The lighting is a little too dark, but other than that it's a very nice place to dine!
Duck duck duck
I took my dad and we ordered the duck salad and it was honestly, perfection. we then had the duck as a main dish and the lamb ribs, the duck was a solid 10, and the lamb was good but nothing outstanding.
Great Asian food
The Asian cuisine that is served here is very refined and each dish is unique and worth a try. Presentations are elegant. Portions can be on the small size, so order more plates than you think you will need. Wine list has all the essential choices. We found the gewürztraminer a perfect pairing for the cuisine. Desserts are all spectacular. Service is excellent, but the food comes out of the kitchen a bit too slowly. We were growing impatient waiting for the first dishes to arrive. Atmosphere is unique -- reminds me of some scenes from the film Eyes Wide Shut. A bit too dark for my taste, and the noise level makes it difficult to carry on a conversation, but we have experienced worse.

I was hesitant about dining alone but when making a reservation, Caryle immediately put me at ease and she suggested that I dine in the bar. Upon my arrival, I was immediately attended to by my lovely server, Victoria. She poetically described, in detail, the restaurants nightly specials and after supplying her with some insight, she suggested a few dishes that I should sample. My meal was eloquently served and each dish suggested by Victoria was exceptional and unique. My dining experience at this restaurant was thoroughly enjoyable. The service so generously offered to me from all staff members encountered depicted a time long past and was comprised of elegance and grace. Much to my surprise, the restaurant manager, Richard introduced himself to me and he offered his services to ensure my dining experience was enjoyable. I am most grateful for the quality of service received, as well as the beautifully presented and delectable food served. I again thank Victoria for her sensational suggestions and genuine kindness shown. I would highly recommend this establishment to all and I look forward to dining there again in the very near future. Thank you, Buddakan.
Late seating, Quick food service
The front desk gave us a lot of attitude to get us seated on time. We arrived early but were told to hang around the bar. We waited more than half an hour after our reservation time to be seated. But once seated the food was delivered quick to our table and we were done with our meal in almost half an hour. The food was typical american-chinese/asian. Don't go looking for authentic flavors. Just enjoy the presentation and decor! The ambience is to die for...and maybe the biggest reason to bring your out of town guest or someone special for a memorable evening!
Such a fun, something for everyone menu in a spectacular setting of many different dining areas. The establishment alone can rest on it's laurels with the well executed dishes and beautiful ambience. However the service really impressed! High level professionalism. Dumpling heaven and delicious chow fun among many standouts. Beyond content with an extensive menu pleasing to all. This family can't wait to return.
What more can I say ??
Everything was AMAZING! From the service to the food. NO COMPLAINTS!! Will definitely be back again soon...

It was a fantastic experience to visit Buddakan. The food was extraordinary good and so was also the service. Don't forget to taste their chocolate dessert. Absolutely Wonderful.
Amazing food and environment. Expensive but totaly worth it. A must in NYC!
Asian fusion in the meat packing district
The food was fabulous but overall the experience felt a bit try-hard for my liking and with so many incredible options around I'd not sure this would make my recommend list. It's very dark and pretty noisy, so for a catch up with a friend not really the best ambience. It would be better suited to a big group I think.
Great night with the girls at Buddakan!
A dear friend is moving to Texas, so a couple of girls wanted to take her out for a special night. Buddakan did not disappoint. We arrived early and enjoyed cocktails in the bar. The bar/restaurant had a great energy. We were seated on time and our table was in perfect location. Food was outstanding! We couldn't ask for a better dinner and the service was spot on. Looking forward to enjoying another great evening at Buddakan in the near future.
Great overall experience. Food was amazing and service was great! They even put a candle in desert and wrote out "happy birthday" for my friends birthday. Only thing I didn't like was that the food came out at different such times (we were informed this would happen as food comes out when ready) but my friends appetizers came out long after I had finished mine...felt bad eating in front of him but it had to be eaten warm. So he just sat there watching me eat (he didn't want to share with me because he was saving his appetite for his appetizer).
Excellent quality in seafood. Environment very up and service with grade 10

The food is absolutely delicious!!! We did one of the tasting menus which gave us the chance to sample a wide variety of dishes. I highly recommend doing this! Every single dish was fabulous! A must do while in NYC!!!
Would've enjoyed being in the main dining hall.
Good food and attentive, knowledgeable waiter. However we chose the restaurant for the main dining hall under the chandeliers and weren't able to sit there or book a reservation there.
we loved the food!! excellent customer service
We loved the restaurant. The ambience was very good, and although is a big area you could feel cozy. Both staff at the library bar and our server were very professional and on time every time we asked for anything. Food came on time, no delays or wrong delivery. The music was great and no noise. The restaurant was value for money, and for sure we should go again soon.
The food was amazing! We ordered too much but our waitress was very helpful in organising doggie bags. If we had ended our meal when the last plate was cleared I would have scored this visit higher. However, being foreigners (who I guess do not tip that well in the US), our bill came with the suggested tip circled in pen. And when the bill was split on request, each separate check had the tip suggestion part underlined. Twice. It was a poor end to what was otherwise a great evening and such a classy place too. That being said, I would still recommend a visit.
Best there is
This was simply one of the best dinners we ever had from start to finish. Great cocktail while we waited for our table. Very good service and good recommendations. We had the pineapple & chilli scampi and tuna spring rolls for starters and the scampi was outstanding and the tuna rolls were delicious as well. For main course we had creamy noodles with scampi and a crying chocolate for dessert that was to die for :-). We heard so much good about Buddakan so our expectations were high but they certainly overdelivered and we will be back next time
We went to Buddakan for a special dinner while in NYC. What we experienced far exceeded our expectations. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was excellent and the decor was beyond chic and modern; it was a treat to the eyes and the senses. Thank you Buddakan staff and chefs for a wonderful evening. We will recommend this restaurant to all of our friends and family who visit NYC.

A very cool place, almost church- like atmosphere, a blend of eastern and western. We ordered four dishes: duck salad, Kung-Pao Monkfish, Broken chicken, veggie stir fry, and veggie fried rice. Of all, salad and rice are our favorite, the rest are too Americanized, eg. deep fried, sweet and sour..........

The best black cod i've ever tasted! It melts in your mouth. The jade shrimp dumpling is also amazing.
Excellent! The chicken and foie dumpling ...
Excellent! The chicken and foie dumplings were delicious and the shredded duck was fantastic too! It says it is suitable for 2 but it's probably for 1 and half or 1 hungry man! Great ambience upstairs and a buzzing but relaxed bar area. Highly recommend!!
Gorgeous scene, totally worth it! And, Kevin!
There were three of us (one jaded New Yorker and two gals from Jacksonville, FL)...after perusing the menu we couldn't decide and wanted to share plates so decided to let our awesome server, Kevin, choose our meal. We couldn't have been happier with the lamb chops, cod dish, chilled udon and filet. Our cocktails and wine were perfect as well. Most fun and satisfying meal in a some time.
A excelent place to visit in NY. A beautiful place with an exceptional food.
My best night out ever
It might be because it was our first night in NYC on this trip, or it might be the final run (Boston) of the World Marathon Majors. But my small group of 4 people booked late on a Wednesday evening, and had the best all over dinner experience ever !! We were met by smiling people. Placed in a vibrant bar to wait for our table, and even though the place was almost packed they still managed to find a table for us upstairs, since we found the energy of this level more suitable. All staff which we came across delivered an outstanding level of service. We went with most of their recommendations and wasn't disappointed on any of the courses, especially not the dessert ;-) If you are anywhere near Meatpacking District, don't miss this fantastic experience, as it is amazing. Recommended with all the rating starts available !!

Dinner Place To Be Seen
If you are looking to go out to dinner for a special occasion, Buddakan is the place. From the decor, to the ambiance, to the food it's very fancy. The food is expensive, but for a couple times a year it's not too bad. The food is delicious, but portions are small so make sure to share things. The waiters are very helpful and will give you suggestions on what to order.
I found this place as I searched Peking Duck in open table and amongst others Buddakan came up, I liked the reviews and had tried the others so thought give it a try, once we eventually found the door, it is quite hidden, we were both pleasantly surprised by the slightly dark but classy interior, the service was attentive, professional and very knowledgable, the waiter gave great recommdations for starters and as we wanted the Peking duck we were not disappointed, it was simply superb. Can't wait to go back.
This is a great Chelsea Asian gem. The atmosphere is zen-like, the service was excellent, and the food even better. We had the Fois Gros dumplings, duck salad, Black Sea Bass, and tofu & eggplant...all were yummy. The Chassange-Montrachet made it all much better.
Our server was beyond rude. I have dines at Buddakan multiple times and always recommend it. Our server however was the rudest server I have ever had anywhere.
We had been excited for this restaurant for some time and it didn't disappoint. The service was fantastic the food and cocktails were great! Beautiful space.
Beautiful spot! Loved the ambience and food was great too
Always take overseas guests here - never fails to impress with the fabulous menu and wonderful staff
