Brother Jimmy's BBQ Ratings and Reviews
Waitress & cocktails were great!
We loved our waitress Leah and the fishbowl cocktail was fun. The appetizers were wonderful, but the main dish sides and ribs were just okay. The sides are pricey for the amount they provide. The food presentation is unimpressive and the ambiance of the place is okay, nothing to write home about. I wanted to try this restaurant based on a recommendation, but I might come back for the cocktails only.
ribs were very dry and not too meaty. Chicken wings were very good
Good value BBQ in proximity to Madison Sq Garden
Chose this place ahead of a Rangers game at MSG. Pleasantly surprised that kids under 12 eat free with a paying adult. Kids portions pretty small, however, so if your junior has a large appetite beware! Not the best BBQ food in we had tasted town, but still pretty good. Enjoyed burger, blackened catfish and BBQ chicken. Best value family meal we had in our entire trip to NYC and its proximity to MSG was a winner.
I had the dry rub southern style ribs paired with green beans and fries and it was top notch! Bar downstairs and dining upstairs making for and excellent experience before our show at MSG!

Loved the brisket, pulled pork and Mac and cheese. And a sweet tea of course. So convenient to Penn Station.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent, also the bucket of wings it's great
Food decent, but over priced
The Baby back ribs were good , but only got 1/4 rack plus 2 sides. Mac n cheese wasok, potatoe salad okay too.
Appetizers were very good. My favorite part was the swamp water. That drink tastes delicious and is served in a fish bowl! How ingenious. I've been here multiple times and highly recommend it.

The food is great . I cant believe the BBQ was so authentic in NYC. Would go tomorrow if I could!!!!
We have been eating at Brother Jimmy's for many years and if you want excellent ribs or brisket this place has it. We usually eat at the Amsterdam Ave. location that is now closed but tried this 8th Ave. spot as we were going to an event at MSG. My brisket was excellent but my husband's dry rubbed ribs were hard with very little taste. The service was good but the restaurant is very loud. Great music is playing but you can hardly hear it. We will still go back but to another location.
Jimmy was alright
This was our first visit to Brother Jimmy's. We expected more of the baby back ribs. It was quite the struggle getting the meat of the bones. The sides were very good though. I really enjoyed the mashed potato with gravy and coleslaw. It was really crowded, so reservations are a must if you plan on going there.
Maybe not the best time to go before a Rangers game. Very loud and crowded though we were seated immediately but at a broken table. We waited 10 minutes for a server then waited 30 minutes for food. The food was tasty but cold it was $25 for 5 what they said were baby back ribs. They were like no baby backs I ever had. The sides were good but small. Not s very good value. My friend's rack of ribs were so small the sever actually brought out 1 more rib for her. Kind of comical.
Tourist trap. Overpriced, overrated. Very loud, could not carry on a conversation. Meh food.

Lively restaurant that is an okay spot before an event at MSG. The ribs were yummy, but we never got a refill on our drinks. ~Italian Mama
Great BBQ in NYC
Outside of Texas, I generally hesitate to go with BBQ. This place is well worth a visit. I had the rib combo and each variety was special in its own right. It is located right next to Madison Square Garden so if you are going there for an event, this is a great place to have dinner beforehand.

Shared the Pig Out for 2 with my son. Really good! BBQ chicken was best. Wish there was a little more brisket. Overall, really good food. Tables a little too close to each other. Service was good. Great stop for pre-Rangers game dinner!
WONDERFUL service but food disappointing
Great location when heading to MSG. Service was wonderful. Friendly, not rushing you out the door. Kid friendly. Attentive staff. Hush puppies great! Tried the sampler dinner for two...ribs ok , pulled pork was the best. Fried Oreos were soggy. Probably won't return :(

Mediocre at best. The food was decent, but there are many other places with much better barbecue. The service was terrible.
Dinner before the game
This is a great place to go for a bite to eat or even a couple of drinks before the game. The atmosphere is just right for families also. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. Very convenient, since it's just a walk across the street from the garden. I would highly recommend it and will be back in the future.
Took my sons to Brother Jimmy's near MSG before the Ranger Game.....great food, fun times! Location was great....service was good, too. Fun times!

A NYC Experience
Our European business associate wanted some local fare which had to include a lot of meat. Perfect choice! The atmosphere was very , very noisy when we walked in but the hostess took us upstairs where the din was moderate and we were able to converse. The food was good, hot and very hearty. The service was just fine.
Great NYC find at a great price.
Sat us as soon as we arrived. On Sunday they have an all you can eat rib and drink(Coors light beer)for $27.95, can't be beat in NYC. 3 different ribs to pick from.
A little goes a long way...
A friend and I ate here (2 consecutive days - 3 for me) for lunch and decided to order the banana pudding. It was tasty, but definitely needs more Vanilla Wafers, not only sprinkled with crumbs, but with the whole cookie...or 2 or 3...as a side garnish. Just like you get with traditional banana pudding. The cut up bananas were great, by the way. We asked the waitress for 2 cookies (not a whole plate, just 2) and she told us she would have to charge ".50 cents or something. It's food, it's not free." That would be fine if we were asking for a whole plate or the box, but we only asked for 2 cookies. This is where going above and beyond for the customer is important, because at the end of the day, the customer should be happy with the service. I will definitely return to Brother Jimmy's because the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is lively, but if I order that banana pudding again I'll just ask to speak to the manager first. It's not banana pudding if it doesn't have the whole wafer...more than 1, please!
I love there drink list and there fish bowl. It can also be a cute date spot
had invited my family to dinner on my birthday to get BBQ we ordered Monday special which was hot wings and ribs and beer the food we got was cold and complain and was new but now in smaller portions so we were very unhappy also for what we got a bill that was very wrong. and the restaurant has a lot of young staff and they could not keep up so it's not a place I will come again and will not recommend it to some.
The best southern food around!
Brother Jimmy's BBQ had a great atmosphere and bar scene. The food made me feel like I was down south, especially the delicious pulled pork! I would definitely recommend the frickles too. The location of this restaurant is perfect because it's right by Penn Station and the Garden, which makes it great to grab dinner before catching a show or a train! Overall, this place is one of my favorites in New York City, and it's a must for people who love southern food and culture!!

Convenient for kids and MSG
This place was very convenient, as it has a decent kids menu and is located next to MSG, where we were going for a musical after dinner. The BBQ is decent; we had brisket and pulled pork. The kids had mac & cheese and chicken fingers, which they both liked.

We had a great time at brother Jimmys bbq.. It was a perfect fit for the night! Jingle Ball after dinner. Kelsey was a great waitress and the food was great. Thank you again for a fun dinner.
we hav. never again here.e been to Brother Jimmy's in White Plains many times. The only thing the same about the restaurants in their names. this place is overpriced and does not give value . smaller menu
Great for a quick stop
Convenient to Madison Square Garden, definitely a sports bar atmosphere
Great value and location
If you like bbq, this is a nice place. God food, good service. And its 2 min from the Garden. Perfect before the match
Especially if you have an event at MSG...this place is the perfect place to go ....the food comes out fast..the staff is very nice.....the food was delish and the prices...beyond reasonable for NYC.....not my first time but would go back again :)
Good food, good service
This was my first time at Brother Jimmy's BBQ. It was great. Planning on going again soon.
Great Pre and Post Game Spot
Its a great location to grab food and drinks before any event at MSG. Its can accommodate a large group and is family friendly.
