Braised Onion Ratings and Reviews
Another Enjoyable Evening
We were a group of four on a Fri. evening abut 6pm. Initially the restaurant was fairly quiet, but within 30-60 minutes it was filling up. The solo entertainer was outstanding. We had asked to be seated away from the music, so as to allow a member of our group with hearing limitations to be able to converse. We were seated in the room to the left of the entry, which was perfect for our needs. We could hear the music and yet converse easily. The food was very tasty (steak; shrimp & grits; lemon chicken; salmon), and the server pleasant. The owner visited us to confirm that all was going well, which was appreciated. Each of us had only positive things to say about our visit.
Restaurant is nice! Entertainment was terrific! My food was great. I had the braised short ribs and the onion bread! Yumm. But unfortunately my husband meal was awful. He ordered the cowboy steak medium rare. The steak was paper thin and well done. It was $34.00. Very disappointed. For that reason a mixed review. The other mention is that our waitress, although, very nice and helpful was vegetetarian. Not helpful with a menu full of meat and dairy???

Excellent Easter Day
I,ve been to the Braised Onion 3 times and each time was a wonderful dining experience. Food ,service and ambiance surpasses any place in the Villages. We,ve enjoyed a birthday party,Valentine,s day and most recently an Easter Sunday dinner and after each experience i,ve bragged about our experience to friends. Believe me folks the drive from the Villages is well worth the time and you too will wind up telling your friends about this wonderful place.
Hungry at a Buffet!
Very disappointing! Bill was a whopping $179.00 for 4 people for a buffet on Easter Sunday. The sticker price was not the issue but what was offered for that price. As we strolled through the line at the height of lunch time, 12:30, everything was scarce, empty or almost empty. We went up on 3 different occasions for mashed potatoes & the vegetable medley and it was not replenished in the time that we were there. The salad selection were poor, except for the Caprese salad, it was fresh & plentiful. Desserts were mediocre. This restaurant had great reviews and we are new to the area and were basing our decision on Yelp reviews. We are going to possibly give it one more try when the regular menu is available. We left hungry & disappointed!

FANTASTIC PLACE & SERVICE!
EWe plan of rerurning many more times and introducing our friends to the "Treasure of a find". We were very impressed by our server, Milina (Excuse if mis-spelled) and love where we were seated and would request the same spot again.......

Consisten good meals. I love the liver and onions. My husband had meatloaf and though it was fabulous. Topped it off with coconut cream pie. Great dinner. This is definitely a repeat Restuarant.
Here's the story. I've been having a really bad month. Decided I needed to find a good place for a civilized dinner. Checked Trip Advisor, Sunday night. Braised Onion had good reviews so I booked. OMG, I want to move in. It was everything that I hoped for. I've been back twice this week. Ordered something different each time. As I said way different. Chicken, steak and finally fish. By the last night my husband was able to join me and he wants to return too. Unfortunately we live in NY so won't be able to return regularly. Maybe fortunately, I'd no longer fit into my clothes. Did I mention the service. Staff was attentive without being overbearing, really the best I've had in a long time.
Don't be in a hurry
A friend and I met in Ocala Florida for a girls weekend. We made a reservation on a Friday night and we're glad to see there were open reservation times. We arrived and found we had to wait for our table. 45 minutes after our reservation time we were seated. We noticed a lot of empty tables in our section and a couple big parties of 10. I asked our waitress if she was the only server and she said yes. We decided to stay our food was good and I believe the waitress did the best she could under the circumstances
We visited the Braised Onion for the first time on Valentine's Day. We were pleasantly surprised at the decor and service from our waitress. The special Valentine's menu was sensational. From the fried green tomato appetizer, to the wonderful soups (we had the mushroom bisque and the french onion), on to the caesar salad (with real anchovy flavor). Then they served us sorbet to cleanse the palate before our main course of perfectly cooked prime rib, and wonderful braised short rib in a merlot wine sauce, both entree's side items of veggies were perfectly prepared as well. Finally, we had dessert of to die for coconut cream pie with chocolate covered strawberries.
This was our first time here. It was as expected, busy for valintines day. Food was absolutely awesome. Our waitress was very attentive. I think the only bad thing that happened was our main course was ready as we were being served our soup. We were asked if we wanted them to hold back our main course, but I said no so it wouldn't be sitting under hot lamps getting overdone. A good choice as the prime rib was very good and done to our requested medium rare. We will go back again.

The food was delicous as always. We made a reservation and still had to wait for 20 minutes after we checked in. Our waitress was extremely slow. Our drinks stayed empty unless we asked for a refill. We waited for 20 minutes for our check so we can leave. She walked by our table 5 times brining other customers drinks and food before finally bringing our check.
A tremendous Find!
My dining experience here was a totally unexpected, and tremendous experience. It was Valentine's Day, they were SLAMMED. They expertly handled the overflow of people. The waitress staff was wonderful, the hostesses were great, and I just cannot say enough good things about how tremendous a job the kitchen staff did to make sure that our meals were served timely and all just perfectly prepared and at the right temperature and presentation. This all with being so busy.
We've been going to Braised many times since it opened. It's consistently great in food, service, and atmosphere. Prices are very fair for the quality received. Look forward to going again. Order the Bread Pudding!
Valentines Day Success
First time here but won't be the last. Went on Valentine Day and we thought staff handled the crowd very well. It helps when staff help each other out. The food choices were plentiful and everything we ordered was excellent. Try the onion loaf or onion baked in a special bread.
After we were sat we waited a good 10 min before anyone spoke to us. There were about 3-4 waitresses in our section. Another server took our drink order and explanied that ours would be with us shortly. It was another 10 min before our waitress made it to our table. We order the briased onion soup and the Pacific salmon and fried steak meals. The food was great with more than enough to take home. We had to stop another waitress for refills and finally boxes and our check. We were at this restaurant for over an hour and spoke with our waitress once. For the money spent I expexted more. We will not be back anytime soon. Which is sad because the food was good!
Ordered the prime rib dinner. Very slow service. Food came to table cold. Sent it back. Came back after a microwave treatment, and was tough a leather. did not eat the meal. The only good part of the experience was I didn't have to pay for the meal. I don't know the reason for the slow, and poor service, and the bad meal. This was my first visit; went on recommendation of a friend. I would not return. Harry's on the Square is much-much better place.
The food was high quality and service was good.
I took my family of six here for valentines weekend. I called 3 times about the reservation and each time the staff was friendly and accommodated my requests. The menu had a nice variety of dishes from braised spare ribs to chicken Florentine to crab cakes. The food was cooked to order, tasty, and high quality. The servers were friendly but didn't bother us too much during the meal. I never waited for my glass to be refilled. The ambiance was romantic, clean, and very nicely decorated with glass wall art, vibrant color schemes, and a very clean room. My only suggestion would be to upgrade the beer selection to more than just American favorites like Mich Ultra, etc. I would have liked to have a nice craft beer available but the wine menu was larger than the food menu and had excellent selections. I will revisit this restaurant every time I go back to Ocala to see my family.

Our table was ready and we were seated right away. Great food and service.
Really enjoyed our dining experience. Both had soup to start. Not only delicious but HOT! Wow. Entrees were outstanding. Dessert was Creme Brulle and like the soup and entrees delicious. Will definitely return soon.
What a Great Discovery!
Glad to have discovered Braised Onion - what a gem! Fabulous Southern comfort food. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and was very pleased, indeed! They offer a decent wine list and my Blonde Sangria was quite simply splendid! Would highly recommend this gem of a restaurant and will definitely be back!!!

Fantastic. Our server, Trevor, was knowledgeable & attentive. I had Beef Stroganoff, which had outstanding chunks of tasty braised beef. My hubby enjoyed the liver & onions. We will be back when we ate in Ocala.
Like the Braised Onion
The staff is very well trained and friendly. On a busy Saturday nite the food was served hot and on time. The onion soup, pot pie and wedge salad were all delicious I would go back again

First time we have Visited. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Excellent chicken pot pie and my husband enjoyed the uber and onions
Food just okay
Service was very good, but some food items very on the cold side. Also found the Prime Rib to be a bit too fatty, compared to some other restaurants. Expected more for the prices paid. Unfortunately, I would not recommend to friends.
Pecan crusted salmon with Frangelico sauce
My husband had the lemon chicken, which was very good. But I ordered the pecan crusted salmon that came with a Frangelico sauce that was truly mind blowing. It was rich, nutty and the perfect accompaniment to the fish. The server brought more sauce when he found out how much I was enjoying the dish. Very good experience.
will not return
The value was high for main dish only. The cost to add salad out of line. The side dishes were not hot.
My Birthday at Braised Onion
We have been here before but it was my Birthday and I love the decor of this place and the food. We had the best server you could have asked for , Mason was her name and she was just the best, she never had to ask us if we needed anything she just seemed to know what we wanted and or needed and it was there. She was sweet and very good at what she does. The food was awesome as usual. This was a great place to spend my Birthday, thanks Braised Onion and Mason for making this a very special day for us!
Good job on my wife's birthday dinner she really enjoyed it and can't wait until I take her back again.I had the shrimp and grits and it was to die for. she had chicken marsala and it was not to die for but it was really really really good.

Our servers were great. They cared for the special needs of my senior group by only bringing out half portions of food and packaging the remaining food for them to take with them later.
Good neighborhood place.
Picked the Braised Onion based upon reviews. We were meeting someone and Ocala was a good town to meet. Nothing fancy, but well prepared fresh food, generous, but not overly large portions, very friendly staff and reasonable prices.
My husband and I wanted to try a local restaurant. We saw an ad in the hotel magazine so we checked out the Braised Onion on line and decided to give it a try. We were very happy with the food and the service. Just what we needed after a long day.
Prix Fixe Experiment FAIL
We decided to try this restaurant for the first time for a special night out. Why a restaurant would choose New Year's Eve to "try something new" (quote from the hostess) with a prix fixe menu is beyond me. We had to make a snap judgement whether to stay or leave when met by the hostess ("staying or leaving?"). It was 6:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve, so we didn't have much choice, outside of fast food. It was a disaster from the get-go, with management, the kitchen and staff very clearly not prepared for the experiment. Long lapses between courses, *very* mediocre, overpriced food, and a stressed server made for a most unpleasant evening. We were very much looking forward to our dinner at the Braised Onion, for their regular menu looked quite tempting. But we will NEVER go back.
Christmas eve break
We elected to take a break from the Christmas hustle and have a relaxing interlude. We choose the Braised Onion because of its service, food, and ambiance. They came through and delivered on all counts. We had a fantastic evening.
Braised Onion needs improvement
Our server was truely outstanding, helpful in suggestions, attentive and very positive in attitude. The portions-very generous, yet lacking in seasoning, very bland. The quality of the food was excellent, yet the lack of seasoning , with outstanding quality ingredients, was extremely disappointing. We were under the impression that their origional chief had returned and the food had improved, yet we did not feel there was any noticeable improvement in the food. This was our fourth visit to Braised Onion and probably our last..three strikes and you're out, unless we hear there are major improvements. If you enjoy very slightly seasoned food you will enjoy your experience otherwise you will probably be disappointed in the food itself, but the service is outstanding. The noise level was high for an evening of which they were not very crowded, can't imagine the noise level on a busy evening.
The soups were terrific. The steak would've been great except it cooked under the warmer past its target temp. Not bad. But not worth a 1 hour round trip drive.
