Border Grill - Downtown LA Ratings and Reviews
Excellent venue for a patio dining experience.
Outside seating is ideal especially on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon.
Reputation well deserved.
I have long wanted to eat at Border Grill and after over 20 years of life in Los Angeles I finally have. We were there on a Sunday evening when a major event was taking place on Broadway, so the place was atypically nearly deserted. No matter to us. My aged parents enjoyed the food as much as I did. Wonderful quality. I look forward to returning on a busier night.
Fun and interesting menu, well prepared food and attentive service. That's what makes for a good lunch spot.
The Border Grill has a great selection of different Mexican specialties. I was thrilled to find ceviche on the menu and had the two ceviche plate for dinner. It was super tasty and beautifully presented. The guacamole was fresh, nice and chunky and the service was attentive throughout.

The restaurant is a tastefully appointed place. Greeted warmly by desk, busboy, and servers. We had an main dishes, with no alcohol, and the bill, with tip, was $30 each, so while not a cheap restaurant, it is priced very nicely for a downtown location. The food was outstanding. Very flavorful, not too spicy, and plentiful. We highly recommend it for pre- or post- event dining.

Dead at night. I thought it would have a nice size crowd for a Friday night. We were the ONLY ones. And after we ordered, food took a long time till it was served- about 40 minutes. Ceviche good, but over priced for its size.

Fantastic bar, delicious drinks by Steve and wonderful service. The slow roasted meats are exceptional- try the carnitas and yucatan pork- and the guacamole is legendary.
Border Grll Bonanza
Great ala fresco downtown, affordable on any budget, especially during Happy Hour. Suggest chcek first to be sure no private party has reserved the outdoor patio as the noise level during happy Hour can nullify the tasty $6 margaritas.
Always great food
No matter what you order at Border Grill you will always be pleased with your selection. We usually order from the Happy Hour menu. We share our orders so that we all get to taste the deliciousness of each item. We are always happy. Unfortunately, this will be the last time we come before our night at the Music Center. We usually take the free shuttle to our event but the shuttle service has been discontinued so we must look for another restaurant that provides shuttle service. Thanks! It's been wonderful for the past 3 years!
Good choice for dinner pre-Music Center
Meh, it was ok. A little pricey for what it is, just basic gringomex on a nice plate. Best thing about this place is the free parking with a Music Center ticket.

Always a wonderful unique culinary treat when downtown L.A.
Love their food and drinks! Service was so good that we went back for more the day after. Their chicken enchiladas and turkey tostada were incredible!
Sorry, this is L.A. Got a ton of restaurants to choose from. Nothing really stood out. Our waitress was great, but as far as the ambiance or food, No. Wouldn't go out of my way to come back. As an example, their Guacamole. Just O.K. Nothing spectacular. ROSA MEXICANO's Guacamole stood out. Probably because of the presentation. ROSA would bring to your table a large Stone Mortar & Pestle. Whole Avocado's. Then in front of you they would peel, slice, & grind the Avocado's while adding their spices & sauces. Now maybe Border Grill does the same thing & then again maybe they pour it out of a Jar. At a restaurant, presentation counts for a lot.
My friend and I were in a quandary as to what to order, because we wanted to try everything on the dinner menu. In the end I asked our waitress what she would recommend. She said the Yucatan Pork was very good with the most amazing brussel sprouts and honey lime yams. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious.
Hands down the best food in LA !!
Hands down the best food in LA !!
We stopped by for the brunch before an afternoon show. It was incredible!! Chelsea, our server, was fantastic. Kind, quick and knowledgeable. The food, was delicious. It was definitely the highlight of the weekend, and we enjoyed it even more than the show !!
Love this place!
I love Border Grill. This visit confirmed all the food is delish! The servers are personable and all out awesome!!

The people were nice. Maybe my expectations were high with the restaurant chef /owners being so well known, but it wasn't the best. I've had the same style food at mom and pop restaurants that I would return because they do a better job with the food they serve. Thanks!
Border Grill Boring
The Mexican brunch was reinvented but with lack luster execution. Servers were great. Presentation was great, but the food needs to deliver.

Yucatan Pork heaven!
My agent and I ordered the Yucatan Pork and we easily could have ordered seconds!! The service was prompt and courteous. I look forward to returning again and again :)
If you like Mexican and would like to see it done on a higher level , this is that. Other than that not much to say. Food was good.

The food was very good. You can tell a lot of attention is given to how the food is picked, prepared, and presented. Everything was fresh and tasted great! This is truly a gem in Downtown Los Angeles.
Friday W/ Family
My family and I headed to LA on a last minute whim and needed a place to sit and visit. We are all foodies, especially my Uncle Steve (that is a whole other review) and wanted to try a new place. I used Yelp for the area and decided on the Border Grill. Good food, good drinks and the view from the patio was just amazing. I'm very glad that we asked for the patio seating for two reasons. One, the view and the beautiful LA weather, the second, the ability to visit with my family. I don't think we could've had such a good time sitting inside and the comfortable noise level. Good experience overall!
Won't be back!!
It took over 20 minutes to get our first apps and two drinks. Service was horrific! Only two or three tables in whole restaurant had people. $50 for apps four drinks! Although the parking was free since we're going to a show at Disney Concert Hall. Otherwise complete waste. The guy at the front desk with lovely and so is her man who answer the phone when I made the initial reservation. Sorry to say we won't be back.
best vanilla pineapple margarita and churros ever
we love the guacamole and fish tacos! Great for a date night
Always a great meal
I've always enjoyed my meals at Border Grill even way back when it was Ciudad. Tasty Mexican dishes that are presented out of the ordinary. The brunch menu offers the opportunity to taste over 20 different small plates. Dishes are always presented in a interesting manner and quite delicious. Also have gone for dinner before attending opera with a convenient shuttle.
Love the decor
Loved the décor, wait staff very friendly, I had the trout and the food was good (portions aren't too large so don't think you will split anything, which is okay with me). Food took a little long coming out but we were at lunch and time was of the essence. It didn't help that a party of 12 was sat next to us right after we placed our order and our waiter had that table. I would definitely go back and would love to take my husband for a date night.
Quality Mexican Food
This was a nice spot in the midst of a bunch of chain restaurants in this particular area. A nice concise menu with some interesting options, tasty margaritas, friendly service, and pretty reasonably priced. I would definitely go back!
My Go-To DTLA Restaurant
My son and I love going to The Border Grill in downtown LA. The servers are very friendly and the food is supreme. It can be a bit pricey, but it's worth every penny. We especially enjoy the weekend all-you-can-eat brunch, which has a great variety of savory, sweet, meaty, and vegetarian offerings.
We enjoyed every single course we had. Our server recommended we ordered off the happy hour menu for more food at a cheaper price. The brisket taquitos were delicious. Our jalapeño margaritas were the highlight of our night. The tacos were good, hard to mess up, but the chile relleno was mouthwatering. Our dessert really topped our dinner. We will be returning. Also our server, Chelsea was wonderful and knew what she was talking about!
Perfect place for a special lunch
I go to downtown LA almost never. This was the perfect place for a special occasion lunch. I would highly recommend The Border Grill-Downtown.
Absolutely. Worth a visit!
Absolutely. Worth a visit!
Always a pleasure here
Everytime my friends and I go to the Music Center we always meet at Border Grill for dinner before our event. The food is fabulous and the service is great.
Fun spot in Downtown
I live outside of LA but was meeting friends from out of town who were staying at the Westin. Border Grill was an easy walk for them & parking a breeze for me! We were seated promptly and our cute waitress was right there to take a drink order. We had questions about the menu and she had all the answers we needed. Everyone was pleased with their selections. I had the pork tacos & would have them again! Another gal had the grilled fish (salmon that day) tacos and she raved about them! I'm not too keen about spicy food so this was almost too much for me but I did enjoy my food very much. I would go there again when I am in the area.
