Wonderful dinner

vip
Dined on April 22, 2016

My husband and I loved our dinner here. Service was excellent: professional yet warm. We had the five course option, which was paced perfectly and left us feeling just right, neither too full or still hungry. We also ordered the wine pairing, so for each course (and we each had completely different courses) there was a different wine, thoroughly explained by the sommelier. Interestingly, none of the wines in the wine pairing were American. The waitperson told us at the beginning of the meal before we ordered that regardless of the number of courses you choose, you end up with about the same amount of food, so that was helpful. Also, the 10 course option is a chef's tasting menu, so no choice is involved with that. The restaurant was busy, but we were taken right to our table. One nice thing was the range of customers in the restaurant--from older to younger, some dressed up, some dressed down. It seemed to be a very inclusive, welcoming place. Definitely need to make reservations here--it's small and they only do two seatings. This was our first visit to this restaurant and would definitely return. Interestingly, earlier in the day we had lunch at its sister restaurant, Rye. Totally different style, feel, and location, but also good.

Went there for brunch with a friend. We both ordered the quiche and it was very delicious. I was just disappointed because the portion was not big enough and we were still hungry after eating that brunch entree. We had to order something else, so we ordered crepes to split, and that was good, though not amazing. Service was great.

The Bluestem is a culinary Art experience! Foods are presented as an art form and each bite is exqusite! We have dined two times and both times chose the 5 course meal. The portions are perfect, as you experience exquisite flavors yet leave feeling wonderfully satisfied not stuffed. A unique dining experience. Kansas City should be proud of the Bluestem. Much like dining at the French Laundry in Yountville, Ca.

Best service, fantastic food

Dined on April 16, 2016

dinner at bluestem was a treat. The service was impeccable, the food exquisite and the wine was well matched. The neighborhood creates a welcome backdrop to the restaurant, relaxed yet elegant. The only negative was the positioning of the tables- I didn't want to hear the conversation of the diners next to us but was unable to tune them out. Perhaps if I was a regular patron we would have had a table that invited a more intimate experience. Request a table if possible, seating along the booth/wall are too close and hard to not be distracted by neighbors. If this were a more casual experience then being close would be great, one might talk freely to other diners. I wanted an intimate dinner for a very special occasion; thankfully the food and wine made up for the unfortunate seating arrangements.

Bluestem Is The Best!

vip
Dined on April 1, 2016

Our recent dinner at Bluestem confirms without question that Bluestem is the premier fine dining restaurant in Kansas City by a very wide margin. The food quality and presentation is truly without rival anywhere in the area. Given the combination of Rye, the Bar at Bluestem and Bluestem, Colby and Megan have all the bases covered in Kansas City.

Dined on March 20, 2016

Its not cheap but the food is very good. Very interesting flavors and textures. A real foodies place to dine. I loved the first 3 courses. The pea soup was phenomenal, the pasta was outstanding and the crab was just fabulous. I did think the steak was good but not great. The brie dessert was also good but not a knockout. The cheese cake was very different, not my favorite but very good none the less. Everything is presented in such a creative way. Very good meal overall. Highly recommend for a nice night out.

We had the 10 course chiefs choice and a very good bottle of wine. The only thing that even skipping lunch that day as not enough. The food was of course extremely tasty so you want to get every drop or morsel that you are served. The only comment I have is that after the meal is over you are given a choice of tiny bits of sweets. Megan is making the toffee smaller I guess she though we would not notice but we both love this toffee so we notice it right away.

Best KC has to offer

Dined on March 5, 2016

There are several independent restaurants in KC, however, few have the consistency, quality and service that is offered at Blue Stem. I have made this my number one choice in town after enjoying several visits. My guests were always equally impressed.

Went here for brunch on Valentine's day for the first time and loved the inside of the restaurant. Very quaint. The food was good, not great. The service was terrible. Our waiter never came to check on us after the food was delivered. I had to wave down someone else to get me something! He just brought us the check at the end. I would have expected more from such a nice place.

Great date night

Dined on February 6, 2016

We were recommended Bluestem and had a wonderful date night Jan 2015. The food and service was fantastic. They were a bit late with our sitting, but comped our drink at the bar which was very nice and considerate. Our only criticism to note is that the wine pairing was "okay" - but that is personal preference. When we go back we will just pick a favorite wine from their list rather than opting for the wine pairing. Thanks for the great night, was delightful!

Dined on February 6, 2016

Bluestem continues to be one of the most innovative and exceptional restaurants in the Midwest, perhaps the country. It is expensive but you get what you pay for and more. The combinations of ingredients and flavors are intriguing, surprising and almost always excellent. It has an excellent wine list and the wine flights are always well matched to the dishes. The staff is very friendly and helpful in explaining dishes or wines. The setting is well-lit, comfortable, moderately noisy when full. We continue to return because this is such a special place.

Awesome

Dined on January 30, 2016

The only thing I wanted for my 50th birthday was dinner at Bluestem with my wife and another couple. While some wouldn't appreciate it, we really enjoyed sitting next to the kitchen as we were able to watch the preparation process, ask questions, and get samples in between courses. My wife was a little uncertain as the items on the menu don't appear on our kitchen table, ever. She's now a fan as well. Looking forward to the next pairing event. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Birthday Dinner and Restaurant Week - Just Average

Dined on January 21, 2016

My wife and I had dinner for her birthday at Bluestem during KC Restaurant week. We have been to Bluestem in the past and had planned this outing at the third of three dinner dates during her birthday week, setting the stage for our Bluestem dinner to be the culmination of the week. Sadly, our experience was only average. We ordered from the KC restaurant week menu and added the wine pairings for both of us. The wines and wine service were just average. The appetizer, entree and dessert were okay. The food was prepared properly, seasoned as would be expected. Service was average, mostly inattentive in their shared service model. No one made even a mention of my wife's birthday and nothing was done acknowledging the special event. All in all, Bluestem ranked third in our birthday week / KC Restaurant week dining. And, we will not plan on being back next year.
