Best Sushi anywhere!!!
Best Sushi anywhere!!!
Ate here a long time ago when it first opened up, remembered it was decent. They've stayed in biz for many years it seems, and I've walked by many times on the way to Sharks games. Finally booked it for dinner before Ellie Goulding concert. Really good all the way around, so happy I kept the reservation (my wife wanted to switch to SP2, but I held my ground). We had a great time!
Just so, so
Wanted a place close to SAP Center that we could make reservations for dinner. This is one of the few. Food was just ok; service kind of slow.

Horrible First Impression
I made a reservation for 6:30pm. When we arrived we were told the restaurant was full, and we would need to wait 10-15 minutes. The bar was full, and there was only standing room in the cramped reception area. We actually waited for 30 minutes before we were finally seated. We were given menus when seated, and then after waiting for 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging our presence we got up and left. No one asked for a drink order, no one apologized for delay of service, no one even slowed down as numerous wait staff walked past our table. We were hoping to find a new Japanese restaurant, we love sushi. But, our search will continue, because we will never go back to Bluefin.
Great Food in a Great Area
I have always wanted to try this place after seeing the neighborhood change so much since my last visit into San Jose. People I knew gave a good word for them, so I took my family and they enjoyed it very much. The food was good, and the service was as well. Try it out if you haven't before, because it is worth it.

Hip joint with high quality fish
Very hip and trendy decor with a very popular bar, reservations recommended. The quality of fish used in the sushi and the range of choices are very impressive. The sushi rice itself is a little disappointing as it is under seasoned and they use so little of it. It nicely highlights the fish, but a significant part of the sushi experience is the rice. It is a little on the pricey end but it is clearly a popular joint. I'd go back and would recommend Bluefin to friends.
I read reviews before making my reservation, and had concerns about the service (based on comments)... Luckily I chanced it and was more than happy with our visit. From the time we arrived, the service was excellent - also the food was above my expectations. I would rate higher if there were more stars! Hidden gem, worth every penny. We will be back.

Amazing sushi!!! Definitely will go back.
Excellent restaurant! Our food is always great. It can be really crowded before a Sharks game so go early. It can be on the pricy end, you might leave hungry if you are on a budget.
Japanese cuisine at best
For hors d'oeuvres, we ordered: Jalapeno Edamame, Yakitori and Gyoza - all outstanding. Main course: Miso soup, Sushi (Dragon Roll, Dynamite Roll, Spider Roll) and Sashimi (Hon Maguro) - all excellent. The most pleasant surprise was Hana Lychee Sake - we drank a whole bottle.
Great food - lousy service
This is our favorite sushi restaurant, however, we were disappointed with the service this time. It took us over 15 minutes to get our drink order from the bar. Our waitress was nowhere to be seen. We ordered all the food at once since we could tell the service was slow. We didn't see any food for the longest time. When it finally started showing up, it was in total random order. We didn't get served our appetizers until last. You could tell they were trying, but clearly not staffed to handle the full restaurant. The food was still amazing. We will still be back, and hope they work on improving their service during busy times.
Not very impressed.
Place was cold everyone is eating with their jackets on Nothing to unique couple nice items that were different from other places but overall the service was a little slow not very impressed for a first visit
My favorite sushi restaurant in San Jose!
We usually go to BlueFin before the Sharks games and are never disappointed. Fresh sushi with great chef's specials. Friendly staff and prompt service when they know you are headed to SAP Pavilion for an event. Love this place!
Average sushi at best
Bluefin is expensive, and the sushi served was average at best. A very simple salmon avocado roll was cold and sticky, almost as if roll had been made ahead and refrigerated. Fish did not seem as fresh as it should be. Entrees use dairy products, particularly hidden butter which is odd for a Japanese restaurant. Service was slow. I do not plan to return.

Very good food. Very good atmosphere, especially before Sharks games. Service was unusually slow this time. Usually better. Got the sense it was a fairly new server.
We loved Blue Fin!
Our old sushi place was replaced with new owners so we are on a mission to find a new one. We stumbled upon Blue fin on Open Table and booked a last minute reservation (I recommend you make one). We loved our rolls and appetizer. The martini was a little weak, but is to be expected. We'll definitely be back
Great Sushi in San Jose!
We love BlueFin! Their sushi is very fresh and their chef specials are always mouth-watering delicious. We dine here frequently before Sharks games & concerts. Let them know you are attending an event and they make sure to get you out in time. There is no rush when you don't have to be somewhere else.

Food and variety was great! Sashimi starters were excellent. Rolls and miso cod were delicious. Service and bar were slow but great place to eat before a show or sports event at SAP.
Good food Parking very bad
Service and food above average. The wine selection is exceptional. The only bad thing is getting there and parking. I had to park 2 blocks away do to concert at SAP center.

Sadly they don't seem to know why there are just few customers. The chef cannot make genuine sushi. I ordered special omakase. Rice was dry. Sashimi lost texture. The quantity was not enough. Paid $60 each. You may find better quality bento box at grocery markets. Only impressed by employees' kindness. There were more employees than customers.

Special dining for a birthday celebration.
We especially enjoyed the oyster shooters and sushi. We will definetly return. Everything was fresh and unique. Service was great and fast. We dined at 5:30 and were the first diners on a Wednesday evening. Desserts were ok but not at the same level as the sushi. We ordered fried ice cream and green tea cheesecake.

Excellent service, spacious dining area, great location close to downtown, good selection of classic sushi favorites.
Nice place before a SAP event
The food was good and the service was excellent, they were vert attentive. We were in and out fairly quickly so we could make our SAP concert time.
Great birthday dinner
I took my mom here for her birthday. Street parking was easy, food was incredible, drinks were strong, and service was fast. They even sang happy birthday when they brought her dessert with a candle. (Note: this is not a complimentary dessert, we ordered the one we wanted and they presented it with a candle). We ordered the Gyoza to start, which is delicious! Then we ordered a dragon roll, rainbow roll, and salmon & avocado roll. This was plenty of food, but we stuffed ourselves with fried ice cream at the end. I highly recommend this place for 2-4 people. The restaurant is small.
more flash than substance
So very disappointed. There's a lot of buzz about this place, but it seemed like a concept place created by people who saw an opening in the market, not people who love or know sushi. They make a big fuss about the fish being brought in from Tsukiji, but the quality was merely "perfectly fine," not "Wow!" Our server was sweet but untrained -- even mispronounced a number of words. Presentation was pretty, but quality was very average. That pretty much sums it up: Lots of attention paid to visual aesthetics but not much thought for flavor.
The food was great, and the inclusion of pictures on the menu is a great touch. The service at the beginning was a bit slow, but while reading they didn't bother us much.
We went here for a pre-concert dinner before a show at the SAP Center. The food is really good, I mean really good, so keep this in mind. Our server was very accommodating and friendly, however the food and drinks were very slow to arrive - cocktails arrived after appetizers, entrees arrived before appetizers, and sushi rolls and sashimi arrived after cooked entrees. The atmosphere is very lively so with great company, the wait for food didn't seem as long. We'd definitely go again but we'd make sure we had no where to go other than dinner.

Everything was great from the service to the food. Best restaurant we ate at for this trip to San Jose!
The portions on the dinner specials are so large that one can hardly finish them--but they are so great one does. Service is great and it is one gem on the Alameda right across from the new Whole Foods store. Ample parking behind the restaurant. We will go again.
I was overall underwhelmed with my experience. I have had better sushi for less.
Good place to dine if you are patient
Delicious food, lively atmosphere, mediocre service. If you don't mind the noise level or the service, this is a good place for sushi. We chose this restaurant because it is very close to the SAP Center. We parked for free in their parking lot and, after dinner, walked to the arena. Saving the cost of parking made the shortcomings of the service well worthwhile.

We had a really great preshow dinner here. Tried a few of the signature cocktails. Very tasty. Also our server recommend a few amazing specials. Definitely a repeat place
Great for SAP concerts
Our second time to eat here before a concert at SAP. Last time the service was not great but got us out in time. This time service was REALLY slow. We were seated just after 6 and barely got out in time! The servers seem very disorganized but the food is quite good and presentation nice. The room is lovely and we would go back....
