I love this restaurant.
I love this restaurant. Their innovative take on sushi always results in fresh interesting seafood and always features things I've never tried before. It's nice not to always taste the same things, no matter how high the quality.

Superb if pricey. But you get what you pay for!
I would imagine that this is where actual Japanese people go when they want sushi in new york, because it is as elegant and authentic a place you could find. Sushi-lovers rejoice for their spicy scallop, uni, and signature Blue Ribbon roll (lobster topped with caviar?!). Will return for sure.
This place was amazing! I came with a group of 10 and they were really understanding and nice about half of the group not arriving on the reservation time. Great service, amazing vibes, very chill, not too quiet but not overwhelming either. I will definitely go back here again!

Great Service & Food
The food was amazing but what really made the entire experience enjoyable was the service. We tasted three different wines before selecting the bottle that we ended up ordering and the sommelier was more than happy to do this. Our waiter was friendly but not overly aggressive and recommended amazing dishes. The fish was fresh and the food was exquisite .
good food, but very, very loud
We had dinner here last Saturday and we had to almost yell to hear each other. We sat in the 'tavern' area, there appears to be a dining room on the other side of the hostess stand that would be much quieter. food was good, but for those prices ($5 and up for one piece of sashimi) I don't want to feel like I am in a college bar.

For the price the sushi was not very good, could get the same quality at my local sushi take out place. The server was unhelpful. Ambiance is like a college bar.
This is my second time at Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya and the food never disappoints! Thank you again. =)
Great for dinner with friends or family or a date!
Beautiful, upscale, contemporary vibe yet still cozy. Fish was delicious and fresh. The very special platter for 4 was AMAZING!

This place is a commitment by your wallet but don't get me wrong it's definitely worth the visit and it's the one place I think stand out sufficiently to justify the extra price. The service was efficient and the waiter. The lighting of the restaurant was quite dim. The food was alright, and the appetizers food portions were VERY tiny, so make sure you don't just order from the appetizer menu if you are really hungry. I love their fried chicken wings and oxtail fried rice, So yum! Overall I had a great first dinner at blue ribbon sushi and would definitely come back again (:

Small plates are better than the actual sushi. Skewers are the best thing on the menu
Great dinner! Amazing sake!
Amazing sake! We had the unpasteurized sake and it was the best sake I've ever had! Some fish could have been fresher, but delicious overall! Awesome that you have gluten free soy sauce & gluten free options! Wonderful service! Thanks again for a wonderful dinner!

The Oxtail & Bone Marrow rice was out of this world. If you like mushrooms, I'd highly recommend the Mushroom Bake. Felt a little cramped, but overall the food makes up for any other shortcomings.
Great food down the LES
I had made reservations for 2 for a Friday night and when the restaurant called to reconfirm, I asked if it can be changed to a party of 3. They quickly accommodated with no hesitation. We sat and order their yummy martinis and a few popular dishes that Yelpers mentioned like the bone marrow fried rice, wings, sushi...all were prepared with care and pleasing to the palate. Go venue downtown to taste for yourself..enjoy!
Enjoy every dish! Excellent!

So loud like a club. I couldn't have a convo
Sushi was mediocre at best. Sad. The bone marrow was the best thing I ate.
Food & ambiance were 8/10.
This place is great to come for a Friday girls night dinner. The menu is so large, everyone will find something to eat. I got the spicy tuna roll which was great and the oxtail fried rice...which was amazing. Drinks were good but nothing special. I think the overall vibe and atmosphere is what you come for. If you want good, fresh sushi in a fancier, trendy environment this is the place to go.
Mediocre sushi in pretentious price
$11 for a mediocre spice tuna role? Nothing in this restaurant justifies these super-high prices.
Very good sushi and Izakaya type food
First the bad: What happened to service here? The waiter would come over and then pay zero attention, constantly looking around, I was always confirming whether he had heard me or not... Failed to bring me my second drink, so he had to be reminded. I have been here about five or six times spending at least $300 each time. Service should be much better. Food was great, however the Toro was surprisingly fishy, but I didn't put a dab of soy on it. The king crab fried rice was great, all the other sushi was up to Blue Ribbon standards.
Amazing fresh sushi
This is our favorite sushi spot in the city. The fish is all very fresh and well-assembled. Also have great cocktails!

I am unhappy when I go to a sushi restaurant that pretends to be upper echelon and I find the fish has already been presliced and is sitting in the glass case waiting to be slapped upon a bed of rice. It's offensive particularly at these prices and with the Blue Ribbon name. The owners should be ashamed. Is this what they have fallen to? I reserved 2 seats at the sushi bar for a business lunch. The place was about 10% occupied giving it the ambience of a funeral parlour. The sushi was adequate, nothing special, certainly not worth $5 and up per piece. Green tea was tepid. Really, if you can't do it right just shut it down. Definitely remove the Blue Ribbon name or face the consequences to the brand.
LES sushi in Style
Nice combinations and cold drinks in a Hip area...

We had an Omakase set lunch. Lots of food, great quality and the sushi chefs at the sushi bar were very friendly and helpful.

Gone down hill
Really disappointed. The sushi was nothing special, especially for New York. At this price point, I expected much more--it was basically the same quality you could get at any non-name, neighborhood sushi place.
in one word Great!
Great sushi great service amazing fun at sushibar. The food was delicious. And the chefs at the sushi bar kept things fun.
my favorite NYC sushi
I've been there 3 times now and had the chef's selection omekase each time. I love the presentation, the creative mix of sushi and sashimi, fish and shellfish, seasonings and sauces and straight up. The aji/horse mackerel is always my personal favorite. Service is very attentive and not intrusive. Lively, casual but classy atmosphere. I've also been to the Columbus circle location, which is more popular and doesn't take reservations. I think this one is better. This time the broiled skewer appies were good, chicken thigh better than the short rib which was a bit chewy and less flavorful. Nice sake selections as well - haven't gone wrong yet. Enjoy!
sub-par service but delicious sushi
I'm personally not a sushi fanatic, but my girlfriend was in town and she wanted a "fancier" sushi dinner... Since Blue Ribbon was rated among best in the city, we made reservations and got each other pumped up for it. The wait-staff was very attentive at first: filling our water glasses and taking drink orders then apps quickly... After that, water glass was not filled without having to ask any staff. Also, when we ordered the rolls, we requested extra ginger - but had to remind them twice, before actually getting it. $130 later, our bellies were sufficiently full but not my wallet... 3 small plate / appetizers and 4 sushi / maki rolls were eaten and all were extremely tasty, fresh, and delicious. In the end, for sub-par service and fancy rice/fish/veggies rolls it was super expensive (even though I knew it would be)!!!!
Excellent Food but Small Portions
I've gone to the Blue Ribbon a lot near Columbus Circle, but decided to go downtown for a change of scenery. The food is excellent at both locations, but I thought the portions were smaller downtown on Orchard Street.
Food outshines ambience
We ate well at Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya. My spouse enjoyed his sushi. I ordered from the izakaya side of the menu and found my mushroom skewer, chicken wings, and spare ribs well prepared, flavorful, and fun to eat. The meal was paced properly, with our food coming at well-spaced intervals. Notwithstanding this, my enthusiasm for the restaurant was limited. The first impression one gets is not a strong one -- enter from the street, and you are directly confronted by a flight and a half of stairs. I found the dance music played throughout the meal irritating. Also, we ate dinner on Halloween night -- and found all of the hostesses and servers (but not the sushi chefs, fortunately) in costume. Maybe I'm an old fogey, but I just found that off-putting.

Come earlier for less noise and crowds! Once it got to 8-9pm, the place fills up with people and noise, to the point where it can be difficult to have an intimate conversation. Great food here (and at their Las Vegas location), never disappoints. Let the hostess know if you're celebrating anything special and they will do their best to accommodate!
Loved it here!!

Decent, not spectacular
Food generally didn't taste that fresh and flavors didn't seem right. Rolls were decent, but nothing fabulous. Atmosphere lacked vibe…bit stark and dark.
