service was slow and we where only one of 3 tables. We felt neglected some of the time. the clam chowder was good and so where the popcorn shrimp. It could have been a much better experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the staff at the Blue mermaid! The chowder was amazing! The whole family loves their meals. I would definitely eat there again.
The ambiance was nice. The kitchen wasn't fully ready when we arrived at 11:30 a.m. It took time for our waiter to get our order also. The chowder selection is quite delicious. I ordered trout which mentioned "crispy skin" which caught my attention. When I got my trout, no crispy skin at all. I was disappointed. The hicama was very good though; it was a garnish on top of my rice. I give this restaurant 3 out of 5 stars.
Best find in a while...great food... Great service.

Christmas night was busy and you expect shortcomings. Waiter was friendly, and we enjoyed our dinner. Seemed to me short staffed. Food was so so. Not impressed.

Kitchen ran out of mostly everything I wanted. Granted it was Christmas Day but they didn't even have bread. I felt bad for the waitress.
Blue Mermaid - Good in a Pinch
The food was typical fisherman's wharf, over priced and nothing to write home about. Similar meal elsewhere would've been $50-$60. (2 adults 2 kids)
Great building but Lame tourist food mostly
Each item ordered had an issue. No corn or crab in the corn crab chowder, mostly potatoes. Ahi tuni without wasabi or soy, but excessive creamy sauce. Cream sauce on oysters Rockefeller (?) Out of soup bread bowls. No lemonade because machine needed refreshing. .........but Fries and hot dogs for kids were fine. And the server printed out our Bill just fine:)
Worth a try
This restaurant is known for their lists of chowders, one of which I tried. Consequently, the chowder competition is high when your located on the popular Embarcadero. I ordered the New England Clam Chowder which had a good texture but had lacked in flavor. I also ordered the grilled salmon which was very under cooked and the corn mixture was very over cooked and lacked in flavor. The service was very friendly and prompt. This restaurant was worth a try but I will not return anytime soon.
Food was pretty good. Outside seating was nice except we had to basically beg the hostess to seat my wife and I at a four top. The two top table the hostess first sat us in was tiny...we madness reservations so I felt we should be able to pick our table. Also, this is one of the restaurants that charges you a few dollars to help employers pay for health insurance...just saying.

Everything was great until homeless person sat down at a table right next to us outside and smelled really bad. Wait staff reacted a little slow to that. They mughy want to consider completely fencing off that dining area.
Great customer service!

Best cioppino in town! Lightly spicy broth and tons of fresh seafood throughout. Service was spot on, friendly without being intrusive. Pleasant atmosphere.
the hotel was sold
the gift card i bought for my daugher's anniversary was not honored, found out about it 1 hour before she was going there for dinner. so shocking that i still cannot believe what was suppose to be a lovely dinner, ambiance, and so forth was a travesty. I am trying to get a refund back. had to call corporate headquarters. who know if anyone should go there

The chowders were amazing. Everything was delicious and service was fantastic.
worst food ever
I think they write there own reviews. Awful food. Clam chowder runny. Ceaser salad with old croutons and dressing was like mayonnaise and salmon way under cooked. People were nice but do not go here for the food.
Chowders were excellent, far above the norm for the area.
Ambiance fine but food was average at best
Had Dungeness Crab cakes and found them tasteless which takes some effort. The Fish & chips had a heavy soggy batter and the chips were OK

The crab and corn chowder was amazing. Chunks of crab meat in a creamy broth all served up in a sourdough bread bowl. Our server was helpful, inobtrusive, and surprised us with a birthday dessert on him. What a delight!

The service was good the location was good the food was not good at all. The crispy rainbow trout the server pointed out as a new item was soggy and flavorless. The fish and chips were just ok. The golden gate cocktail was overly sweet. Disappointing
Nice place. great location however the food is just average
Good seafood and top notch friendly service in a casual environment.
Amazing crab and corn chowder!
Blue Mermaid was the perfect place for our first night in San Fran. Close to a lot of the wharf hotels and no wait for a table. They serve fantastic mocktails and the chowders are so tasty! Try the chowder trio to get a nice sampling. Friendly service and fair prices for the area. Would definitely return next time in San Fran!
great brunch at fisherman's wharf
The Blue Mermaid is a great place where everything is just right - we had selection of chowders - each recipe is delicious to perfection, some cocktails, and entrees, and that made our afternoon. Impeccable service, too.
Would expect only the best food..
Prominently located on the Wharf you would expect that their menu would represent the best of seafood available. Of course they deliver Upon the expectation! Fantastic food, reasonably priced, wonderful service, and overall a great experience. You won't go wrong with dining here.
Good american ambient, with TV, bar and restaurant, with good service. The steak and soups are well done and tastefull.

Our waitress was very helpful and attentive. Fish and chips were homemade and yummy!
Great brunch and cocktails. Stahl (name on check) was great!
Our recent visit to Blue Mermaid for lunch was a true delight. The service was wonderful and everyone was very attentive. We even got a visit from Executive Chef Steve Connolly. I can recommend the Chowder Sampler as an appetizer and don't forget to have the award winning corn chowder recipe which I will have to return for. The Ahi Tuna sandwich was more than I could finish but I did splurge for the flipped apple pie.
Good food for a hotel restaurant
I'm often skeptical of hotel restaurants, fearing the "captured audience" persona will appear. Not in this case, the Blue Mermaid, while immediately adjacent the Argonaut Hotel in Fisherman's Wharf, found the menu to be pleasing to the eye, and and the food items ordered quite flavorful. I'd recommend to travelers seeking a good meal to check out the Blue Mermaid.
not for the gluten intolerant
Love seafood as it is usually not a problem to get it gluten free but if you did not like crab or salard there was no choice as it appeared that most of the dishes were preprepared so could do not be altered Very disappointing - also menu on line is out of date
Attention chowder hounds
As advertised and reviewed, Blue Mermaid has outstanding chowder in a real bowl or in a bread bowl. We had a late, quiet lunch outside and definitely would go back again. Nice to find a place that matches what you read about it online.
I came in for just a bowl of the corn and crab chowder which might have been a disappointment for some wait-staff because it wasn't going to be a large check. But my server was very pleasant and made me feel welcome. The chowder was hot and very tasty - a filling meal!

The crab chowder was very good, had a different taste than the clam chowder. Also tried a drink called the "It's Hard Being Green". Very good, had a green pepper taste that was a little sweet but not to much.

The food was OK but not that great. The crab & corn chowder which I was looking forward to, as I'm from New England originally, was very salty and not very good. Desert has too much sugar. The one thing that was good was the breakfast I had sent to my room on the day I left. I asked for extra crisp bacon, and it was done perfectly. It came with cinnamon raisin french toast, also good. The breakfast that I had in the restaurant my first morning there was poached eggs, done just right, but the potatoes were over cooked and tasteless. The onions and red peppers that were with the potatoes were raw, so obviously not cooked together.
Another good experience...
This was my bf and my second time at Blue Mermaid and enjoyed it yet again. Everyone is nice and quick to serve and the food and cocktails are amazing!
Since we were staying at the Argonaut, we decided to have one of our dinners here. The atmosphere was a little bright and casual for our liking but the service and food made up for it. We ordered the calamari with bits of fennel and asparagus...delicious! Next was the crab and corn chowder, just the right consistency with perfect seasonings. I wanted the salmon but I liked the toppings on the swordfish. "No problem" said the waiter. The fish was cooked to perfection. The service was excellent, attentive but not rushed. All in all, an excellent dinner!
Great for seafood lovers!
We had a wonderful dinner, great friendly knowledgable waiter, very good seafood and appetizers, wonderful outdoor dining and hotel right in the 💜 of it all!
