Excellent dinner/late night dinner place

Dined 4 days ago

Needed a downtown restaurant with class and some hipness at the last minute for a business diner with out country VIPs. Our party increased in size at the last minute and the restaurant accommodated us quickly and with a pleasant manner. The food was excellent, a creative fun menu, excellent cocktails and nice relaxed but sophisticated ambience. The service was a bit aggressive, we felt a bit rushed or pushed into ordering like the waitress had someplace to go... That was the only slight negative of the evening but it was negligible.

Meal was delicious. Exceeded our expectations in every way. Service was also great. Will definitely go back. I thought it would be an upscale bar with OK food but the food was outstanding. A real treat.

Great food and service. Music was moderate but it had a good ambient. It can have a little more variety on the drinks, but the ones ordered were amazing.

We really enjoyed our meal at Bluehound! The shrimp and grits were especially terrific! The service as attentive and the server was excellent. Really cool cocktails as well. A great place for a birthday celebration.

Fun find

Dined on April 17, 2016

I loved the way it was set up, very comfy and inviting. The food leaned towards comfort food but was a little pricey. The table enjoyed the fried green tomatoes but were split on the deviled eggs. The drinks were a little expensive for their size, but not so much so that you have to go without. Would recommend to friends looking for something original.

Flawless and Fun

Dined on April 16, 2016

Molly was our server- she was exceptional. Very personable and attentive. We shared a couple of appetizers – unique deviled eggs and melt in your mouth short rib sliders. Then we shared shrimp and grits. Very flavorful, but not overly spicy. Creamiest grits ever. Had a Lawless cocktail- bourbon mixture poured over a smoke filled glass. Yummy and dramatic presentation. Don't miss this place!

Blue Hound is conveniently located in downtown Phoenix, walking distance from most downtown venues and stadiums. The food is locally sourced when available and very well prepared. Service was great.I will be back.

Nice downtown meal

Dined on April 6, 2016

My wife and I had dinner before the D Backs game. The server gave us the food and drink specials in detail and was very helping answering any questions we had throughout the night. If your a foodie who would like to have a good meal in a casual setting I would highly recommend this place.

Great food

Dined on April 3, 2016

Outstanding food, very fairly priced. Menu has great imagination. Waiter was excellent. Only downside were hostesses who were not very welcoming or friendly. Noise level reminded us of New York City restaurants where it is too loud to easily carry on a conversation. Up side is that tables were nice size and not too close together. Will return soon for great value in food.

Good not Great

Dined on March 12, 2016

Overpriced. Food tasted good, but not worth what we paid. Tasty cocktails. Service was slow and lacking, probably because it was really busy. Still, would have liked it if the server/waitress stopped by our table more to check up on us.

We decided to have a late dinner. the desk to check in was tucked away in a corner, making it difficult to find. It was crowded and noisy, but we didn't mind. We had the shishito peppers to start. I had the Brussels sprout/egg salad while spouse had the pork shank. Everything was delicious, seasoned well and perfectly cooked. Our server also recommended good glasses of wine to pair with our meals. Since we were staying at the hotel, we received a free dessert (cherry pie.) Yum. This was one of our favorite meals during our trip.

We'll be back

Dined on March 11, 2016

Our second time in, this one before a concert. Since we knew we couldn't deal with leftovers, my wife and I split a kale salad and the braised pork shank with risotto. Both were excellent. Based on our previous experience, when I made the reservation I asked that Ryan be our server, if possible, and he was. He is pleasant, professional and very personable. The only negative that I find about the place is the noise level makes it challenging to have a conversation.

Reasonable food, but a poor welcome

Dined on March 10, 2016

It's hard not to be put off by the unwelcoming hostess. Our waiter, though, was charming (although we later discovered that, despite our telling him we were going to the Suns game, he didn't tell us we were entitled to a game night 10% discount). The food was quite good - I had the herb roast chicken and my wife the pasta. The espresso coffee was mediocre. Perhaps it bears out the adage about restaurants in hotels - they can do one thing well, but not two. Next game night, we're going back to The Arrogant Butcher.

Went two nights in a row. Had the shrimp & grits & pork shank. Both cooked perfectly Ask for the popcorn they hand it out at the bar, but you can get it for the table. It's free & bottomless. It's infused with lime & chili powder? Trout & chicken were excellent as well per my guest.

Good night with customers

Dined on February 19, 2016

I made the reservation via OpenTable that day. When I arrived to the restaurant with the customers I was taking to dinner they said they didn't have my reservation and they were full. Once I showed them the confirmation email they had us seated within 5 minutes. We ended up having to sit outside which turned out to be for the best. It was quiet and allowed us to eat and talk without yelling. We went last year with the same group and it did not disappoint again. Interesting cocktail list and when one of the group didn't like her drink, they replaced it with issue. Id recommend this place for a group as long as you sat outside.

The Valentine's Dinner was very subpar and not worth the $80 per person. It came with a cocktail which the waitress advised is an acquired taste, so it was interesting that they did not serve a more familiar cocktail. My date and I had to pay for a different cocktail.

Upscale, modern but friendly atmosphere. Very good service and fresh, thoughtfully prepared dishes. Herb roasted chicken was beautifully done, as was the burrata with roasted tomato shared plate . Would definitely come back. Not a lot of dinner tables so reservations are a good idea. Large long, communal bar area popular with 20-35 age group.

Our favorite spot in Phoenix! A local recommended this to us. We were surprised to find such a gem so close to a million other spots near the convention center. Tip: book through Open Table to assure a spot. Great appetizers: we recommend the deviled eggs and shishito peppers. Outstanding! We had the BLT and crab cake sandwich and moz salad. Everyone was thrilled with their choices. The cocktails were lovely. Try the High Heaven and the Outlaw. Incredible service.
