Food was good except for the oysters, but service was horrible! We waited for more than 30 minutes after our apps just to place our entree order. The server completely forgot about our table and we had to ask other staff as they walked by our table to help us. This restaurant came highly recommended however I will never go back or recommend it to anyone.
Just love John Keawe and his Ohana!! So much fun. The food was great and our waitress was the best.
Fun family evening
John Keawe and his wife, Hope, were the entertainment that night. Everyone in our group-ages 3 to 74, had a delightful time. Great service, great food, nicely accommodated needs of the younger members of our group.
A great venue for music and tasty food.

Desert was outstanding
The food was delicious, the music great, and the special desert a stunner. It was called Two Birds One Stoner and was an artistic and tasty masterpiece. All parts were edible. Among other components, a wonderful bird's nest was nestled on the plate with two "eggs" lying beside it. They were made from lilikoi and other ingredients that you would have sworn were real soft cooked eggs with a runny yolk. Fabulous! The regular menu is always dependable (the fries were perfectly cooked), but the ever changing specials keep us coming back for more.
Always a great time!
Absolutely one of the best places on the island. Live music, excellent service and wonderful food. I've eaten here many times and have never had a bad experience. The french fries with all the different types of seasonings are the BEST. Always the freshest seafood and the service is top notch. Definitely add it to your places to go.

Open to the beautiful Hawaiian night sky. Listening to good music and a meal that we loved, great drinks. Music changes nightly so check ahead, we heard big band and it was great.

We were lucky enough to eat on a Sunday when the Ollie Phonics played...the were great
We've driven past the Blue Dragon for years and never thought it looked very appealing, but recently several friends recommended that we check it out and what a pleasant suprise. The parking was easy, the staff was excellent and very friendly and the menu turned out to be a revelation. Many different menu choices, all with a local slant and flavor. We can't wait to go back and will sing it's praises to others now. We should have stopped sooner.
Heard the food was excellent but not so much. So-so taste on pasta, fish of the day and steak. However the chicken and waffles were pretty good. Our server kept pushing the drinks (especially the bitter IPA) and seemed miffed when we did not order dessert. Lava Rocks band was mellowish so mostly slow dance tunes but at least it was a live band. Doubt we will return.
Good drink and food
Unique drinks actually good. Allowed to linger over them while listening to good live music. Food maybe not spectacular but good and interesting. Desert was fantastic and worth trying.
Blue Dragon Rocks
Food was excellent. Pork chop is a must (best I have ever had.). Great music and dancing
Blue Dragon Rocks
Family of 6 visiting Big Island on our annual mecca to Mauna Kea. The Blue Dragon has become one of our standard dinner spots. We always go on weekend night to see the live music, sit outside and enjoy the food and local color. Great for families with young kids (they go early and are out by 7:45) and really good for families with teenage kids - they can dance and check out the scene. Cocktails are excellent (modern - not all fruity Hawaiian) and the food is remarkable. We have had the same server (Nathan) the last couple of years - earnest, thoughtful and actually very helpful. Try the dragon Balz and the Kona Ball appetizer - delicious.

Worth the drive! Cool atmosphere and food is really good with only the freshest and local ingredients. I had the swordfish, which was amazing. My husband had the pork chop and it was great too!
We have been to this restaurant 5 times, every time it has been a great experience. Our server, Jayleen, was awesome. Don't pass up the Blue Dragon the next time you are on the Big Island...
Fun and Fine!
Good food, good music, good service...outside under the stars! Casual, fun ambiance paired with excellent dining. And live music, yes, yes, yes!
Fantastic Restaurant and Entertainment
This is a must-go when on the Big Island. Fantastic food, great service, fun ambiance. Will DEFINITELY go back and try the rest of the menu I missed!!
Great food, drinks and service
We ate here on a Thursday night with a group of 6 with a reservation. We started with drinks from the very creative drink menu. Dinner was very good and again very creative. The chicken waffles were especially good, even for someone who has lived in Georgia.
As a regular diner/dancer to the Blue Dragon, and a foodie, it never ceases to amaze how good the restaurant is. Tonight my spouse and I dined to the live music of Moon's Landing (easy blues and jazz). We ordered mostly from the specials -- Noah's Spicy Chicken Wings appetizer and Corned Beef main dish. They did not disappoint. The wine was luscious and an exceptional value. The restaurant filled and the dance floor attracted very happy patrons. It was a special evening because it was our anniversary -- couldn't have been better.

Great local music scene. Super friendly staff. Food was good. The ambiance is lovely and unique. Outdoor dining area with misters to keep you cool. Don't miss this gun place!
Great food, great ambiance, awesome music, and good drinks! Great social gatherings with friends, and co-workers. Wouldn't recommend for families with small children.
Blue Dragon Fan, BUT
Let's start with the fact that I love the Blue Dragon and have been coming regularly for over 3 years. We have brought family and friends, attended Halloween parties and encourage friends visiting the island to make sure to go. BUT...Friday night was a disappointing, food excellent, drinks excellent & service wonderful (thanks Bo!), but the band, Vinyl is not Friday night Blue Dragon worthy. Part of FUN of the Blue Dragon is DANCING. This band was NOT a dance band, and in fact either slowed an potential dance song to a crawl or "jazz" it up to an undanceable beat. It was also obvious that we were not the only ones not happy with the entertainment. For God's sake, who can't play Sweet Home Alabama. Seeing so many folks standing around and not dancing was disappointing. Bands' quality a 1 out of 10 since they we advertised as a dance band by the Blue Dragon. They butchered the Stones! Who does that? Ruin Tom Petty amongst others. Given the prices and quality of the BD - this was a major letdown. I may be back, but will make sure that we double check the entertainment and get some reviews before making the reservations. This was especially disappointing since it was the first visit for my daughter's boyfriend who really wanted to dance. When Ruben is not dancing all night there has to be something wrong.
Late opening time creates a bottleneck. Service quality takes a hit due to everyone being seated when they first open. Leave the kids at home!! This is not meant to be a family restaurant atmosphere. It's a great restaurant and bar with music entertainment. Nothing worst than having kids crying over the music and think they look cute on the dance floor. Children would best be seated in the room off of main dining, not next to the bar and dance floor.
A Wonderful Evening Out
The Blue Dragon, a neighborhood hot spot, is a restaurant not-to-be missed on Hawaii Island. Thanks to Chef Noah and staff, it has moderate pricing (beats the resorts every time) with great food and drinks. Thanks to Kava, it now has an impressive wine menu also. The absolute cincher in the evening being a great value, however, is the LIVE music. Check the website to see the type of music -- different every night, so every taste can be satisfied. If the music moves you, a large dance floor awaits. It's fun to just watch too. On this night my spouse and I had a huge pork chop, house salads, and an order of perfectly made fries. this restaurant has spoiled us as it has set the benchmark so high.

Ambiance and music are great and I never had a bad meal here!
Hau'oli la Hanau
My wonderful partner treated me to dinner and dancing for my 70th. birthday last Sunday. I had been wanting to go to the Blue Dragon for years and was not disappointed. With the orchestra and Grammy award winning singer the experience far exceeded my expectations. Mahalo for the great evening.
Warning! $10 per head cover charge not listed
This was recommended by locals do decided to give it a try. There is only one daily catch option and the night we went it was one I don't like so much (swordfish). Had a burger, which was delicious. Server was very good. There was a great band playing big band/jazz, people were dancing. The shock came when we got our bill and found $20 for 'entertainment fee.' No where on the website, in menu or posted at the establishment was information about this additional fee. Honestly, had I known, I would have gone elsewhere.
Great spot to enjoy dinner, live music and dancing under the Hawaiian stars. Food was delicious -- ordered prawns with a local fish and fresh veggies, good Mai Tai and chardonney. Make sure you ask to be seated in the room where the band is or at least in view of the band. Enjoy!
We were there on a Friday night when the Larry Dupio Blues Band was playing. They were MAGIC! The Bar Scene was vibrant and entertaining with lots of carefree dancers and hangers-on. The food was good and well priced. Open air - but don't come for the view unless it is of the night sky. This is basically a warehouse with the roof torn off and although on the waterfront, this is an industrial area across the street from the container port. The bar scene more than made up for the lack of a view. Highly recommended!
always a pleasure
wonderful music, great food, well-timed and relaxed service, enabling one to enjoy the meal and relax. We were never pushed to leave after dinner, and could dance and listen to the music under the stars. One of our favorite places on the Big Island, without question. We ate there 3 times over the past three weeks, and had excellent meals on all occasions.
Open air dining with live music. Great food, good drinks, attentive service and fun music. We all loved our dinner choices. Highly recommend.
Great live entertainment
Recommend booking early and specify if you would like to sit close to stage or not. Dance floor at front of stage and lots of people up to dance. Very entertaining evening. Food very good too.
The Patsy Cline music was great. We danced. Had a great time.
They have few tables that are far enough away from the entertainment for a table of three to have a conversation
Interesting place to enjoy good food and music and being able to dance under the stars was awesome.
I'm a former chef and restaurant owner, so let's get that out of the way. Living on this island means we go out to find food that's better or different than I can make at home. What the Blue Dragon has going for it are phenomenal service people and a great live music venue under the stars. Truly on that front, one of the best places on the island. As we don't drink, I can't speak for the alcohol part. But if we did, I would imagine the bar scene would be rated pretty highly - it's tastefully decorated, service folk are friendly, and you can dance the night away. The food, however, always leaves me feeling like I paid too much for something that's adequate, but not special - even though it's beautifully plated. In the end, I leave feeling a bit unsettled, as does my tummy. It also seems as though I've paid for ambiance, not top quality food. Which I've had, in Portland, OR or Santa Cruz, CA or Boston, MA, for example: All farm to table all the way, with great organic, non-GMO, gluten-free options. Not one or two choices, mind you. It's high time Hawai'i jumped on board that bandwagon, frankly. We pay twice the price for ho-hum fare, if beautifully and graciously presented. And by the way? You are levied a $10 entertainment fee, or at least we were. Not that this is unreasonable, providing the entertainers are paid well, which I'm unsure about. But this was not disclosed by Open Table, at least that I noticed. No big. But.
Great dinner, great show. The place for music on the big island.
Dinner and music under the stars
Our dinner was good in that my steak and donkey balls were excellent. We were disappointed that the fresh catch was tuna and we were hoping for something else. Hard to believe only one fish on the menu. We were totally taken back by the $10 per person entertainment charge which we were told about at the last minute. Saw the same group last year at this place for nothing. Would have set outside if I knew about the charge for 2 hrs of music. Dinner for 4 over $300 without salads and minimal appetizers and drinks.
Perfect for Parties!
I celebrated my birthday on the 20th and the Blue Dragon is PERFECT place for dancing, live music, fantastic food, and an all-around great time.
Local Hot Spot
Chef and GM Noah is the spark plug behind this awesome scene and food! The food rivals that of the 5 star local resort restaurants, actually better. The live entertainment is awesome. I have been there for all 3 acts over the last few weeks and they are all top shelf! Don't miss this place.
