Bleu Restaurant and Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
Went to Bleu on a Thursday evening. Less than 5-6 tables of people at 7:30. They were out of tuna appetizer, have no grilled chicken on the menu, just crispy/breaded to put on a salad, only had two duck entrees left. Their explanation was that it had been Mom's weekend the weekend before and their next order of food hadn't arrived yet. Really?? Five days later?? Ordered a Caesar salad with shrimp since no grilled chicken. The shrimp were not grilled, no spice on them, no nothing. Just a few cold, thawed shrimp on top of lettuce and croutons. Looks like they have really gone downhill. I won't be returning any time soon. On a positive note, the bartender was friendly and attentive.
Very Pleasant Experience
The service was prompt and friendly. Kitchen prepared our meal perfectly. Food was served with a beautiful presentation.
We came for the fabulous Sunday brunch buffet; however, after being seated we were told that they no longer do the buffet even though it is still advertised on their website. We decided to stay since it was Easter and many other places were closed. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. Now that the brunch buffet is no longer being offered I doubt we will go again. Such a disappointment! Used to be the best brunch in town!
Food was fabulous!

No Sunday Buffet Brunch
We have always enjoyed Bleu's Sunday brunch buffet. We were quite disappointed that they have discontinued the Sunday brunch buffet. We ordered off the menu instead. A nice selection of lunch sandwiches and salads, and also typical breakfast foods. Everything was delicious and beautifully prepared, BUT, it wasn't the buffet we were expecting.

The food was very good but not hot. The waitress was very polite and friendly but didn't visit the table very often. A little pricey for the amount of food but overall was a nice dinner.
FYI, I was on a Date with my European Girl Friend and in Europe the waiter never comes to the table until they are summoned. Also, after dinner if it was good to get up and leave before 3 hours is up is an insult to the Restaurant. She grew up in Austria and has been here for 6 months. I finally got up and told the waiter what was going on and to leave us alone. He understood.

enjoyed the brunch like the variety-love the salmaon cooked different ways--enjoyed the pickled onions-the dessert bar is to die for!!!
Very nice setting, but not as nice as I expected
We had a group of 4 for dinner on a Friday night. Friends had raved to us about how great the place was. It was not a bad place at all, but not much attention was given to food prep. Neither the steak nor pork chop was cooked to the requested temp. Perhaps they had a bad night...
Bleu Restaurant - something for everyone
Awesome dinner! Great group place has great food, wine, ambiance! A great romantic special occasion location next to the historic Columbia courthouse columns, and new courthouse.
The was very disappointing. The wait staff was not up to bleu's standards.
Good food but not prepared for Parents Weekend...
We went for brunch over MU Parents weekend. The buffet was good and there was nice variety, but they just didn't seem to have it together. The buffet wasn't restocked as quickly as it should have been. There were the little delays & annoyances that add up. The staff was trying hard and our waiter was quite nice but overall I think the restaurant was overwhelmed and I wasn't overly satisfied given what we paid.
Sunday brunch at Bleu is always outstanding. Old favorites, new items, very fresh. Dessert table includes lots of chocolate.
Service & Food......both Great!
Our sever help with us making great choices. Drinks & food , both outstanding. We'll be back.
Get the beer battered cauliflower!
We had the cauliflower appetizer and it was amazing, but it was also huge, large enough for 4 or 6 to share. It was a busy weekend, Mizzou parents weekend, home football game. So it was a bit busy in the restaurant, and the waitress forgot to bring out my second glass of wine and the side dish for my husband. However, the manager apologized, got them for us eventually, and comped these items for us. Overall, our experience was very good and we will most definitely return another time. We have 4 years of visits to Columbia.
Kitchen issues ...
Bleu was having kitchen issues which forced our dinner to come out late. The manager came around to every table and apologized. He also gave us a gift card to come back. We will give it another shot.
I have often gone to Bleu for dinner and this was the first time I went for lunch. My companion obviously appreciates food and drink and he had a great time. He really likes risotto and enjoyed the risotto with salmon as well as two glasses of pinot noir. The Bleu Burger is consistently great, with the very tasty fries, which I had as well. The booths are comfortable and private and we had a nice long conversation over lunch.
Awesome experience at Bleu
We made a reservation via open table as we would be dining with a group following a Mizzou football game and were worried it would be packed. Table was ready when we arrived 20 minutes early, room was clean and inviting. Our waiter Shane was awesome. We could have been a troublesome table for some waiters, asking for drink alterations, food substitutions and such, but Shane was on point with suggestions and could not have been more accomodating. He made us feel like the most important people in the room, and it was awesome. Our food was great, especially the Pork Belly Won Ton starter. I had a craving for Mac N Cheese, but also a steak. When I asked out waiter if that could happen, he replied with "Of course" and made it happen. What more could a guy ask for. We will be back, hoping for Shane as our waiter.
Great evening in outside dining
I'm not great at remembering names of items, but we really enjoyed the batter fried cauliflower for an appetizer. It was hot and crispy on the outside with a curry drizzle accompanied by some fruit drizzle as well. There were 4 of us and this appetizer was more than enough for all. Good portion. My husband said his shrimp and grits was excellent and he would consider having it again. We sat outside and it was lovely although if the umbrellas had been tipped a little against the sun, we might have avoided the setting sun in our eyes. We had a great time. Thanks.
Great option downtown
I eat out a lot in Columbia, usually 6 nights a week. Bleu is not my favorite but it's a great option if you are looking for a diverse menu downtown. Always easy to get a reservation on OpenTable which I love. Good burgers, sandwiches, flatbreads, desserts.

Fantastic! We are from Chicago and were a little nervous ordering steaks, but the ribeye was amazing. All the salad dressings are home made (my husband makes his own, and HE was blown away). A 5 star experience from appetizers to drinks to dinner to the service.
Large Group Hotspot
If you have a large group meeting for brunch this is the perfect place! Variety of foods cover those who love breakfast over lunch or want both. Being able to reserve our table online was a great feature and added to our experience when we were able to be seated immediately.
reliably good meal
Bleu is one of our "regulars" in Columbia. The food is quite good, the dining room is comfortable and usually pretty quiet, and they have lots of nice booths. The servers do a good job -- Bekah served us tonite and she was very sweet. We got the Bleu Burger and the scallop dish. Both are wonderful. They vary the preparation of the scallop dishes and we especially like this one, served on a bed of corn and black bean salad with crispy onions. Two thumbs up.
Great place. Look forward to coming back ...
Great place. Look forward to coming back. Surprised to see it so quiet on a Saturday night.
When visiting Columbia from the Chicago area, I always go to Bleu for Sunday Brunch with my son who is a student at Mizzou. The selection and quality of the food offerings and the service are always very good. This visit was no exception. For about $20 per person, which includes coffee and tip, I would highly recommend Bleu to start off you Sunday right.
This was.my first trip to Bleu. I loved almost all of the food and tried many new dishes. The music made Mother's Day brunch special but was a tad loud at times. Definitely want to go back.
Great Food/Great Location
I have eaten at Bleu several times now and have never been disappointed. I find myself thinking about my meal for days after and wishing I had leftovers!! Great location, great food and You have to love their patio.
The service was excellent. The food was satisfying. Each course was delicious. The only thing I did not like was the music. It is jarring to listen to old pop tunes in a restaurant that strives to offer sophisticated service and atmosphere. Light jazz or classical music would have been more appropriate.
SUnday brunch was excellent
I had not visited Bleu since they moved. I should have come sooner and will be back more often. The divided dining areas create a more personal atmosphere, like you are at a friend's house for dinner. We had a private dining room for a party of 10 during brunch. The service was top notch and the buffet food was fresh, at the correct temperature, and delicious.
Most underrated restaurant in Columbia
I'm from Columbia and have seen many things come and go. This is probably the most underrated restaurant in town right now. I have never had to wait no matter what event is going on. The food is always great, the service is always solid, and the vibe is basically perfect. It's one of my favorite Columbia secrets, and the fact that it's so close to downtown make sit all the better for a start to a great night.
College towns are tough
Midwest college towns are tough for fine dining. Bleu tries, but ultimately fails to impress with what counts: food. My house-made pasta was swimming in a too-rich sauce. My partner's shrimp and grits were okay. Dining room has seen better days -- does this place turn into a nightclub?

I met business clients at Bleu, one for dinner on a Thursday, another for lunch on Friday, and both meals were excellent. Frankly, the service at dinner was a trifle overzealous, but otherwise he was most helpful. Our waitress at lunch was perfect: efficient, pleasant, and unobtrusive. I will be pleased to continue holding top-priority meetings in Columbia at Bleu.
Seemed like it was just for the 2 of us!!
We came from out of town to celebrate Valentine's Day. The food was excellent and perfectly timed. The server was attentive but not intrusive. There was a snow storm to be expected so there wasn't to many other customers. So it seemed as if we had the place all to ourselves. It was very romantic and the food wasn't your everyday find. I would love to dine there again.
Not near worth the money
My wife and I went here for Valentines Day dinner. We were very excited about this meal. We decided to get the special which was a meal that we shared. I meat was not seasoned and outside was really crispy it was hard to chew. The Brussels sprouts were the best. For dessert we got chocolate covered strawberries which tasted like they were just dipped in wax. There was absolutely no chocolate flavor. The truffles we very bitter and the Nutella tart had no taste. The homemade fortune cookie was the best thing in our plate. We ended up spending $125 on our meal and two drinks a piece. I have had way better food for 1/4 of the price. Very disappointed in the food. Also our table was wobbly. Service was very good and everyone was very nice. Not sure what happened with our food.
hard for special diets
The fixed price menu on Valentine's day did not include a vegetarian option and generally, the menu is sparce for someone who is gluten free, vegetarian or vegan, although we understand you need to offer a limited menu on holidays. Limes for gin and tonic were dry. Cab sav was very good (a New Zealand wine). We did not feel rushed, which was nice.
Love everything about Bleu!
The prices range which makes it great for anyone--you can choose a $10 sandwich or $30 steak and still have a great tasting meal. The drinks are amazing and the service is always on point. I go here a few times a year and love it every single time!
Great food, not-so-great service
Dined at Bleu at 6:00pm on a Saturday evening. There was nary any other customers in the place. My date and I joked about how sparsely populated it was and how unnecessary our reservation was. Our food was excellent. The cocktails from their ample list of house specialties were yummy and unique. Two soups were both flavorful and delightful. Entrees had wonderful flavor palates and were delicious. Recommend the Giggle Water, Cat on a Hot Gin Roof, the chowder (soup du jour), curry lentil vegetable soup and the turkey pot-pie. The shrimp on the shrimp and grits were the only culinary disappointment (the grits were fabulous). Sadly, the service was not as exemplary as the food. In spite of there being only 2 other tables in our dining room with guests at them, it took more than 15-20 minutes before a server arrived at our table. When our server finally arrived, she apologized for the delay and cited some sort of mis-communication. An odd faux pax at a well-established and lightly attended restaurant. Our drinks and soup arrived promptly and it seemed perhaps our server was rallying and about to stage a comeback. Alas, a service comeback was not to be. When our server came by to check on us during the soup course, she couldn't be bothered to stop walking to do so. She literally did not break stride as she passed by our table. I've never before witnessed such a drive-by! Our empty soup bowls were not removed until our entrees arrived, at which point, the residual soup had turned dry and crusty. Lovely! Once our entrees arrived, we did not see our server again until we had nearly finished, at which point our cocktail and water glasses had been empty for quite some time. We were never offered drink refills. Our server seemed disinterested as well as inattentive. She seemed to have somewhere better to be. The other server in the room seemed much more on top of things, so perhaps our bad service may be the exception rather than the rule.
Great spot and great food!
Visited for NYE and it was amazing! The food was cooked perfectly and the drinks were spot on! The noise level was up this evening due to the live music but was well worth it. Tried the pork chop and sea bass which were both great. Server was fast and friendly. I would highly recommend this place to everyone, I will definitely be coming back again.
New Years Eve
I made reservations for 6:45PM 12/31/2015 and arrived on time and was seated promptly. Ambiance was good but food was lacking . I ordered the $28 prime rib and was not a good quality and tasted bland. My date enjoyed her seabass. Dessert serving was good, but for $90 including a $13 dollar tip, I was very glad we did not order drinks, only water. I could have had a better meal for a third of the price at Cheddars and will not eat at the BLU again.
