About Black Cat
Black Cat Farm Table Bistro serves inspired farm to table cuisine based on the just-picked produce from its own 130 acre farm. By day, Chef-Farmer Eric Skokan cares for the vegetables out in his fields. Each evening he finds him in the kitchen crafting dishes on his daily changing menu.
The restaurant's wine list places the great wines of the world side-by-side with small, off-the-beaten-path producers from lesser-known regions.
Daily pairing menus give our sommeliers ample opportunity to dip into the 400+ selection cellar, and vary in focus from Northern Italy to organic wines of the Pacific Northwest.
Hand-crafted, seasonal cocktails featuring artisanal spirits and local ingredients show the talent of our professional mixologists who make our bar spring to life.
The Black Cat has a lively, warm atmosphere in its intimate dining room. It is located in the heart of Boulder, CO, just off the historic Pearl Street Mall.

Knowledgeable, pleasant staff and fantastic, creative food - most of it sourced from their local farm. Highly recommend the tasting menu.

Delicious food! All courses were given a detailed explanation and the chef came to the table himself.
Amazing Experience and Delicious Food
I took my wife here for her birthday, and wasn't sure what to expect from the blind tasting menu. Basically, it's seven courses, described only as they arrive at the table. Each dish was brilliant and incredibly flavorful. The food is straight from the farm (harvested the same afternoon) and was super fresh. We went for the wine pairings too, and thought it was a lot of fun to see how the wines paired with each dish. Everyone on staff was very accommodating and described the food and wine with great knowledge and a sincere interest.
very attentive wait staff, delicious food, handled gluten-free, dairy-free perfectly, and a quiet - rare for a Boulder restaurant. Overall a lovely evening
Exceptional food, wine, and atmosphere
Innovative dishes, the freshest ingredients, beautifully presented in comfortably elegant surroundings. For dedicated foodies who appreciate quality in every dish. A true find. We will drive from Denver to Boulder for another meal here.
Perfect, as always
This was our second trip, and we got the chef's tasting menu again. The food was fresh and creative, and the service impeccable. This is becoming our go-to spot when we need a serious indulgence.
Still the best (and relatively unknown) gem in Boulder

We had the Chef's Tasting and were very glad we did. We were not so sure about not knowing what the courses were going to be, but Black Cat worked with our limitations of no fish or shellfish as well as no mushrooms easily. Each course was great and it was a fun way to dine and take the choices away and just enjoy the food. Can't wait to go back!
Good food, but overpriced.
The ambience is very nice, great for a special occasion, especially a romantic one. However, for the price charged, the food and service is not worth it. A meal for two can easily run you $200 and for that money I expected better food.
Don't be afraid of this Black Cat
I was in Boulder for a concert at the Boulder Theater and decide to make another visit to Black Cat. This time I wanted to try the Chef's Tasting Menu. The food was outstanding! Service was also great. Very knowledgeable wait staff. I highly recommend Black Cat.
Great food and ambiance
My husband, 16-year old daughter and I just ate at Black Cat for the first time. Upon entering, we immediately noted the warm, casually elegant decor. Most of their tables are booths, which are cozy and intimate. We all decided to have the 6-course tasting menu, which they adjust according to food allergies or dislikes. My husband and I got the premium wine pairing, as well, which was highly recommended. Our waiter was extremely friendly, knowledgable, and accommodating. Throughout the dinner, we were attended to by many other staff members and they all were professional, helpful, and genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs. The issue we had was with the wine pairing, especially considering we upgraded to the premium one. The Champagne that was served first was excellent, but everything else from there went downhill. The sommelier was great at his job, knew an extensive amount of information about the wines, and was open to feedback, but we really didn't feel like the amount of money we spent was worth it. A couple of the wines were so obscure and not particularly tasty, we felt like they didn't appeal to most people's palates. Perhaps diners should be given a choice between two wines for each course, allowing for differences in taste. All in all, we had a really nice dining experience, and the chef/owner served one of our courses, which we thought was a unique touch.
Black Cat date night
We sat at a table for 4 and were impressed by the passionate, genuine service we received. The gift of sparkling rose for making us wait a mere 5ish minutes to be greeted was delightful, as was the follow up gift from the chef -- which was a delicious cheese and bacon/jam topping that I can't do justice with words. The restaurant is farm to table in every sense. They own the farm, the people at the restaurant are foodies and friends -- felt like family. The food was delicious and unique, the wine excellent, and the chef + owner, Eric, came out to greet us! He introduced himself and it was really nice to meet him. I had the duck stuffed with pork, which was incredibly flavorful, and a salad to start that was everything I look for in a salad. Nice greens, light dressing, great flavor combinations. There were a lot of dates around us and it looked like the perfect place for date night.
We were up for a last minute Friday dinner and were lucky enough they had an opening. It was a lucky find because this was so good. 3 of us were eating with very different tastes (one a red meat eater, the other mostly vegetarian and the 3rd a foodie) and we were all uniquely satisfied. Great wine list as well.
An excellent dining experience.
One of the better dining experiences I have had in Boulder. The owner made it a point to visit each table and explained the relationship of his farm and restaurant.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening here. Everything was delicious and beautifully plated. The Paddleboat cocktail was also a winner. But honestly what knocked us out was the extraordinary service. From the wait staff to the chef they were welcoming, helpful, gracious and kind. The chef even offered to move us to a quieter, nicer table as soon as one opened up, since we were near the door. We were not unhappy where we were but this gesture was so generous and certainly made us feel special. The new table gave us a nicer perspective on the restaurant so it was worth it. Boulder really has customer service figured out, whether it is a restaurant or a store people could not have been more helpful and friendly.

The epitome of farm to table dining. Chef Eric Skokan's tasting menu was perfect as was the Foie Gras Terrine, striped bass and Colorado beef. Every meal we have there is a wonderful fresh adventure in fine dining.
Great service, overvalued food
Service was great. Food was overvalued in relation to the portions. Not to say it was bad. The food was delicious, so was the wine. Over priced.

Wonderful food, beautiful presentation. Wine pairings were prefect and service was attentive without being overbearing. Our only complaint is that the neighboring tables were too close to ours.
Amazing food with exceptional service. Great for a nice night out from time to time.

We made the reservation a while ago, not anticipating the Valentine's Day prix fix. Did not disappoint however! Food simply superb, relaxed ambiance, and chef/farmer Eric Skokan stopped by to present one of the courses and stay for a chat. It's clearly a favorite amongst established Boulderites, and did not see an empty table. Highly recommend.
A standout in Boulder
In a town well know for its gastronomy, the Black Cat is exceptional. Focused on food either grown at its own farm or locally sourced, the Chef, Eric Skokan, (who often comes out to explain the dishes to guests) has done a masterful job of creating interesting, tasty and relatively healthy find dining dishes. Although the restaurant could stand for less ceiling light and more candles, it is a nice, romantic restaurant perfect for quiet interludes while enjoying terrific food and a great wine list.

Extraordinary service. Great personal attention.
Were well selected special menu for Valentine's Day. Enjoyed the whole experience and the information provided by the chef on where his food comes from. A real Colorado treat.
Do not eat here.
The only good thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere. The food is totally mediocore and way over-priced. Boulder has several better restaurants- Spruce, Colterra, Salt- Go elsewhere.
always one of our favorites
My husband and I have been going to the Black Cat for years and it never disappoints. We love going there on a special date night. It is worth the splurge. The service is excellent and try the tasting menu. We got a extra special treat with the owner, Eric being there. I am sure everyone was on top of their game with the boss there.

Wine pairings exceptional. Sauces were creative and wonderful.
We had an amazing experience at Black Cat. Our reservation was early 5:45 on a Saturday night. We were seated in the "cubby" towards the back of the restaurant. It was a very private and intimate setting - loved it. We had four but it could seat 6 ppl. I ordered the tasting menu and everything was delicious, even catered to my glutenless lifestyle. However, the last item was a beef tenderloin served with "creamy oats" and I am still daydreaming about how the tenderloin melted in my mouth like butter. So good. The wait staff was super attentive.... top shelf. I don't drink (though my friend enjoyed the wine) and asked for a mocktail that was not sweet. The bartender came up with an amazing drink and now I wish I would have asked what it was. The owner/exec chef came out to talk with us towards the end of our meal making it an even more special experience. Highly recommend
This was our first time and my wife's birthday dinner. It turned out to be an excellent choice: the food was tasty, greens were fresh and colorful (picked the same morning from under the snow)! Quail and the stake were first class, and so was the lemon marenque pie. We will be back!
Wonderful farm to table dining. The chef delivered our meals and described how on his farm they were raising the vegetables on our plate and the staff were preparing the meal with utmost care. Food was fantastic. The beef duo was delicious, a beef sausage that was outstanding and a filet cooked to perfection. But the vegetables...outstanding! Only negitive was the person at the door, who rather ignored us until another waiter arrived and graciously took us to our table.
I get it. It's farm to table.
The food here overall was delicious. There's definitely something to be said for locally sourced products, but let the food speak for itself. The service staff spent a hefty portion of time describing the farm to table concept and each dish in almost excruciating detail. I'd guess most people get the concept at this point and if they don't, there's certainly enough text on the menu to communicate the value. The service staff was very friendly but almost obsequiously present: a little too heavy-handed. Great for a team dinner but I wouldn't spend my own money here.

We had some great food off the tasting menu, and love that most of the food is sourced from their 140 acre farm! We will be back.

First experience at Black Cat. We were not expecting to be so impressed as I hadn't done any research on it. Lovely charming Place with creative delicious food. Staff could have been arrogant but were friendly and very accommodating. It was expensive however, didn't mind as it is such a special place. Reminded me of Aspen in the old days.
At first I felt like I wasn't getting the attention that I deserved for a restaurant of this price. I never mentioned anything to the waitstaff, though. By the time that the food came out, they more than made up for it. It was a great time and a great meal. I haven't been there in a while, and feel like that have really stepped up their game. The pours for the matched wines were very generous.
Don't let the nondescript location throw you. The wine list is amazing and the food is world class. Service was extremely professional. I will be back!
What farm to table is all about! Did the chef's choice and dinner was absolutely amazing. Perfect wine pairings. Can't wait to go back.
Great service, but tasting menu . . .
. . . should have been titled , "For Meat Lovers, Only." We were served meat for every course, except desert - just way too much meat. The service was superb.
Best Farm to Table in Colorado
This place has it all: great food, great atmosphere, and great service. The menu is always fresh, unique and delicious. It is at the top of my list of restaurants to visit, not just in Boulder but in Colorado.
Fantastic food and excellent service
This was my first time at the Balck Cat and I was not disappointed. Service is friendly, professional and exceptionally pleasant. The food was so good. Tried not to eat every bite, but could not contain myself. Loved this restaurant
This is a consistent, elegant restaurant. It is quite pricey, but the service is commendable and the food is carefully prepared and served beautifully. The menu is quite small but the chef is very accommodating. Our guest had ridiculous food restrictions (absolutely no salt), and they satisfied him. They are a Farm-to-Table restaurant, so very fresh and local and seasonal food is used in most of the dishes. They were pretty busy for a weekday night, it is small and not noisy, which we like.
