Berret's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Berrett's is a longtime favorite, with changes in the menu, but unlike some other local eateries, new offerings are different but not strange. Our (reserved) table was ready the instant we arrived, and next to a window, as I'd requested. Food and service were great!
The menu was inspiring, the food fresh and delicious. This was a spur of the moment decision that paid of handsomely. I would dine there again when visiting Williamsburg.
Food was great and it was so nice dining outside on a beautiful day. Nice selection of gluten free choices. I ordered the crab cake sandwich which came with asparagus. I really don't care for asparagus much but the way they made them they were absolutely delicious.

My date had the special which was A fish filet garnished with strawberries. She said it was the best fish dish she had ever had. I had a medley of crab dishes which was very good.
Best crab cakes anywhere! Four of us had four different dishes, and every one was exceptional. Best restaurant we've found in quite a while.
A Very Long Lunch
We went to Berret's Restaurant on a Saturday afternoon for lunch around 1:00. We sat inside a small room which was very quiet - almost uncomfortably quiet. It was a nice day and there were people sitting outside - I would imagine the atmosphere out there is much better. Our food was decent, but it took forever to come out. In fact it took forever to take our order as well and our drinks were never refilled. As we walked around the area, there seemed to be a lot of other places to go that would have had a better atmosphere. (We couldn't get reservations at any of those though - and now we know why...)
Best of Colonial Williamsburg
Located in Merchant Square Berret's is truly the best of the area, from service to food look no further for a great restaurant and happy hour. They have outside dining, $1 oyster, superb food with a great waitstaff. We tried their lunches, dinners and happy hour never being disappointed only looking forward to our next vacation in Williamsburg to visit again. Thank you wish you were closer!!!!

Overall OK. Oysters are very good, however the tuna, crab cakes and seafood ravioli were nothing special. The tuna was overcooked, dry.and bland. Better seafood options in the area.

Great dinner. Service was wonderful. I had a stuffed seafood pie thing that was flavorful and unique. My co-worker had amazing crab cakes. No filler at all! And our server was knowledgable and a delight! We till be back!
Very nice seafood restaurant
Barret's was recommended to us for nice seafood. It is located in the shopping area of Colonial Williamsburg not too far from the College of William & Mary. It makes for a very nice evening, and the food was very tasty. I would recommend this for dinner, though there wasn't anything about it that really stood out. I think the meals were very good but other good restaurants would be on par.

Our Mahi Mahi was the best seafood we had in Williamsburg on vacation. The salads and entrees are beautifully presented as well. Excellent location when visiting Colonial Williamsburg.
All four of us ordered the crab-stuffed trout. It was absolutely delicious! Ryan provided us with terrific service ~ we love this spot in the heart of Williamsburg!

We were visiting the area and saw that Berret's had really good reviews. After eating there, we can see why. Took our 7 and 5 yr olds. They liked the kids "cocktails." The salted shrimp (fried shrimp) were great. Great food and great service.

New England Clam chowder was thin and not very flavorful. Tables small and very cramped. Wouldn't recommend.
Delicious, service excellent! Ambiance a bit casual from what I expected. But still nice.

Our server, sorry do not remember her name, was terrific.
After a wonderful greeting by a very professional hostess things went downhill. Our server varied between attentive and leaving us alone way too long such as for simply taking our order. She crab soup was cold and very thick. Entrées were OK , desert good. Still we like Berrets a lot for its hometown feeling and will certainly go back.
Had a great lunch here - food, atmosphere and service was great! Will be back!

Excellent Seafood as Always
Berret's Seafood specializes in fresh seafood. We enjoyed our meal on the outdoor patio in early spring. They had an incredible array of specials that night. I especially love the rainbow trout stuffed with crab meat. Every time I've gone there the sea food was fresh. It's the best seafood place in Williamsburg.
Great place to dine in Williamsburg
Wonderful food and a great atmosphere located just a short walk from Colonial Williamsburg. We had the most fantastic dessert. The prepared a 3 berry cobbler in a small skillet. It came out piping hot with ice cream on top. It was delicious and big enough that two of us couldn't quite finish it. Salads were great and we shared a seafood pasta dinner.

Arguably one of the worst meals for the money i've ever had. $150 for two people--shared appetizer, two entrees, shared dessert, two cocktails and a glass of wine. The cocktail, the "Virginia Apple" was unremarkable. The appetizer was good, but no better than anything from Applebees. The crab cakes, for $29, were terrible. The menu described them as "sautéed" but they were clearly pan fried to the point of being black on one side. They must also have been dropped in a trier because they were extremely hot on the inside. There was no filler, but the meat was not all "lump" as promised. There was clearly claw and/or backfin mixed in. There was also no flavor. The mashed potatoes and carrots and green beans were also under seasoned. The dish looked and tasted like something from a diner. My partner's wahoo steak was likewise a disappointment. The fish was chewy and had a grey, unappetizing color. It must have been frozen. Dessert, the raspberry cheesecake, was admittedly delicious. But we left frustrated that we wasted $150 on a meal we wished we never ate.

We enjoyed the fried oyster appetizer followed by stuffed trout. Excellent food ably served by Susan who made the evening pleasantly memorable. The special that Wednesday evening was half price wine bottles. We chose French Champagne which topped off a great experience.
Excellent dining experience
We were an adult party of four and enjoyed one of the best seafood dinners we have ever had here. The wait staff was superb, the atmosphere was quiet but friendly, andthe food was marvelous.
Not a four star restaurant
The hydrogen atoms in the stars for Berret's Restaurant are gone. While the service was good the she crab soup lacked any crab at all. It was a tasteless cream soup. The house salad was just some greens taken out of a typical grocery spring mix plastic container. There were no tomatoes or any thing else in the salad. I ordered an additional crab cake with the salad. There was more filler than crab. No crab in the soup and not much in the crab cake. This was a typical high priced tourist trap in a beautiful historic district. I will never go back considering all the other great restaurants in the area, especially the one across the parking lot on the next street.
Really good food.
Think about ordering several appetizers instead of a full main course!!! Good service for the most part and very friendly staff!!! Consider the wine flight instead of a glass. Better Value and good selection.
Always consistent for excellent quality in all areas. Food is excellent, staff are knowledgeable and courteous, restaurant is cozy and inviting. Had a wonderful birthday dinner there and enjoyed every second.
Went here for valentines' day date night. Very good food, but not spectacular. This sums up the entire restaurant, really: very good, but not spectacular.
Saturday Night Review
We took my son and two William & Mary friends on Saturday night. Our waiter was very attentive. The food was delicious - calamari, fresh oysters, the crab cake (innovative that it was gluten free); mahi mahi, petit filet with oysters, salmon, mixed seafood in paper). One of our son's friends remarked that Berret's is one of his favorite restaurants. I will note that despite my clear request that my dish be dairy and gluten free, it did come with mashed potatoes, which looked incredibly delicious, but obviously were not dairy free. Just something to be aware of. That did not affect my enjoyment of the meal.
What a great find Berret's was. Probably one of the best meals I've had out in a long time. The parchment wrapped seafood was to die for! Will definitely be back
What a wonderful experience. Great food. Great wine. Great service. Beautiful atmosphere. So romantic.
Our server, KAITLYN, enhanced the experience. She was very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating.

Great local dining place
We are close enough to walk, so we do. Great food and nice menu, changes with seasons and specials. Very attentive waitstaff as well. In the summer they have a great Tap House with awesome burgers and beers. Whether you want fine dining or to grab a cold one with some pals, this is a great place to dine. Their crabcakes are awesome by the way!
a very nice evening
We had a lovely evening. We have come so many times over the years. We miss Tom Austin but enjoyed the quiet delicious meal.
Berret's in Merchant Square
Every time we come to Williamsburg we go to Berret's. It is our favorite restaurant for years. My wife and I started going there at on our annual trip to Williamsburg more than 10 years ago. The food is outstanding and the environment is quiet and pleasant. It is a small restaurant, but not small on flavor and variety. They have many great specials and the menu changes often. A real Williamsburg gem.
I have been here several times and always enjoy it. I especially love the crab cakes, she-crab soup and caesar salad. Very good service, great atmosphere. Parking can be full but there is a pay lot across the street.
A warm, inviting restaurant on a cold winter evening! Good hospitality, friendly service. An enjoyable dining experience!
Always impeccable service and a welcoming atmosphere. I had the soup and sandwich. The turkey wrap was yummy. I would love to eat it again. The potato leek soup was a little disappointing. It was very thick and over seasoned.
This restaurant always delivers great food, great service in a charming atmosphere. Best seafood in Williamsburg!
