Benjamin Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Benjamin, an excellent alternative to Peter Luger
The food at Benjamin Steakhouse is every bit as good as Peter Luger's. It is also easier to get a booking there and it takes credit cards. The ambiance may be more special at Peter Luger, but the service at Benjamin is every bit as good. Highly recommended.
Not for vegans!
The steaks are properly cooked to order; here, "rare" means RARE! The Benjamin's steak sauce is hearty, sweet, and piquant; the Benjamin house potatoes, robust and tasty. The wine selection is excellent but even more overpriced than the food.

The host could not have cared less about details.
We made a reservation and noted that we preferred to have a quiet table by the side. As we arrived, the host (male) simple grabbed two menus and seated us in a table in the middle of the dinning room. No welcome, no smile, we could have been in a diner in the burb's instead of a nice restaurant they claim to be. It was not our first time here, but the food came charred for the bacon and a rare steak. Was anybody checking the orders before they left the kitchen. Very disappointed this time.

great food terrible service
i took my girlfriend for her birthday dinner and would of given it a 5 as the food was amazing but after seating down and our waiter taking our order. It took them about 45 minutes to bring out a salad and our appetizers. while people around us that sat down after we did was getting all of their salads and apps way before us. I had made reservations early at 530 pm to be able to make it to a Broadway show at 8 pm due to the fact that we didn't get everything later and ended up being a half hour late to the show. As well we saw that all the waiters were talking and asking the other costumers how they were doing. Not once did our waiter came to ask us how we were doing or have a small conversation like he did with everyone else. for the price and the type of experience i had there will not be coming back.

Steak was fabulous and cooked as ordered. Sides and dessert also great. The restaurant was a madhouse on Monday for 7:30 reservation. Even though I checked in a couple of minutes beforehand, I was told to wait, which I did for close to 10 minutes. I finally grabbed a host and complained and he told me to follow him. Not good organization at reservation check in desk. BEST service from a waiter I can remember.
Great steaks in Midtown
I had heard of the Benjamin Steakhouse and was staying nearby and wanted a very nice place for a special dinner, and this venue hit a home run. The wait staff are of the old school, polite, discreet, professional, and very knowledgeable. The presentation of each course was as if a piece of art. Great care was given to make sure every part of the meal from the cocktails to the coffee and dessert was something memorable. The special steak for two was the best T-Bone -- cooked perfectly and served on a very hot plate with a great natural juice from the beef -- a highlight. The best in a long time.

Food - Excellent Service - Extremely Poor I contacted them directly after our less than wonderful experience and Benjamins offered to send me a gift certificate to try them again. Will do that as the food was seriously awesome! Hope they can improve the service and the crowded seating.
There are much better Steakhouses in NYC
Nice place and the service was GREAT but the food was hit or miss. Food came out at a nice pace and we sat for 3-hours with no pressure to leave and since I had guests in town from CA that was pleasant. Three of the four steaks were excellent but one fillet was tough and fatty (poor cut). Drinks were very short pours and a NY steakhouse scotch is expensive as we are prepared for but the pours were just 50ml. Most steak houses I go to are generous with the drinks. I said something and my next drink was double (maybe a bit more) but was charged double. Tomato and Mozzarella came out plain, no nothing other than the two ingredients, no season or oil and vinegar/ on the side which was served once we asked for it. We all tried the Canadian bacon slab appetizer which was to die for (and the cheapest on the menu) and the shrimp cocktail was also very good. I decided to skip my normal Caesar salad and went with the onion soup. It had absolutely no flavor and was boring and for the price should have been great. Deserts were good too but out of 5 stars we all gave it a 3 and won’t go back since there are better choices for the same price range.

A traditional steak house with old school decor. Food is great. Good dining venue for men, or a group of men. Not suitable for a date. Service is not befitting of its reputation. Recommend that the restaurant upgrade from chairs that are too short for modern humans.
What a great find!
I have been coming into NY for years......staying around the corner at the Grand Hyatt....decided to try this place, and boy, am I glad we did. AWESOME food, great atmosphere, and great service. Will be back!

The steaks are the best I have had including Peter Lugers. Although pricey, the food is excellent. I love the side dishes such as Benjamin fries, no cream creamed spinach and mushrooms. The service is excellent without being intrusive.

Fantastic room, Steak cooked to perfection along with the friendliest and most accommodating staff in the Steakhouse business I have ever seen make Benjamin's my favorite by a mile. I can't wait to go back !
a NY restaurant
we went there for a good steak and we got it. the food is outstanding, the place is crowded but very NY stile
Benjamin Steak House
they should be embarrassed to serve there chicken ceaser salad. it is just romaine lettuce with a dry piece of grilled chicken you could get the same quality or better at Wendy's and I never eat there but is was disappointing. my friend had the grilled chicken with vegetables and potatoes that looked greasy and the vegetables were over cooked, service is good and the ambience is lovely but the quality of food for the prices they charge is ridiculous we probably could have had a better meal at Annie Moores next door for 25% less.
Meat lovers take note
Old fashioned steak house decor. Great steak grilled exactly as ordered. Our party had the steak for two and a individual sirloin. Creamed spinach without cream and mashed potatoes were great. very good wines by the glass at reasonable (for Manhattan) prices. Location is a short walk from Grand Central Terminal.
Quality of their steak is in the top 3 in NY or in the US.

The food was delicious. It was little bit to cold in the restaurant .
Service and ambiance were very good. Steak salad with steak salad was perhaps the worst piece of meat I have ever had. I did inform the waiter and he was very nice. I will give the restaurant another try as I think this was an anomaly.
We had the ribeye and the salmon both were excellent !
Too many others
Service was uninterested, noise crazy loud, food adequate although sides very small. Lots of better choices for steak houses in the city

Our first visit. Restaurant was busy at 5:30pm. We had the Benjamin salad and steak for 2. The salad was very tasty and a nice surprise. Light salad dressing and lumps of crabmeat which were very tasty. Steak was cooked to perfection and we ate every bit. Also enjoyed the no cream creamed spinach. Overall a very positive experience. This is not the place for a quiet dinner!

We were seated, with a reservation, in an area of the restaurant lit by extremely bright lights, creating a hot zone. I asked to be relocated and was told it was impossible. Our waiter appeared and I attempted to order a crab cake with mashed potatoes as my entree. Even though both items are on the menu separately, he said they could not be ordered together as an entree. I then asked for the crab cake appetizer with the side of mp that appeared on the sides menu. He again said no, that was not possible. I asked 3x. Heard no 3x. I then ordered the lunch filet, medium, with extra potatos, no cauliflower. This proved acceptable. The steak arrived cooked until dead. Brown through n through. I asked if I could get a new steak, prepared medium. Again, was told that would be difficult ... the kitchen was very busy and my steak had been cooked as ordered. Apparently 'medium' = 'roadkill dead'. I had a flight to catch, so I choked down the cow brick I was served. Of course, now I had to wait 30 minutes to see my server again, so I could ask for a check, the delivery of which was the only prompt and accurate part of my experience. Truly disappointing.
Perfect from the moment we entered through dessert. Big thumbs way up. Food and service were top notch.

Outstanding Steaks-Porterhouse to Die for!
Having been a patron during the early days of Benjamin's, the consistency, ambience-clubby dining room, attention to details- flat breads, appetizers and potatoes 6 ways, and extraordinary quality of the steak makes this a most memorable experience for special occasions, important business or social gatherings, and has me returning with guests who themselves become regulars.
Benjamin's has a great Lunch special fit for a king. Their Dinner service is great as well.
