Benihana - Anchorage Ratings and Reviews
Danny was a great showman!
We had a great meal at Benihana and Danny gave us all quite a show. We enjoyed his sense of humor and he cooked our steaks to perfection! It was an all around great evening. We never leave disappointed.
Just okay. NO value for the money
On special occasions we find ourselves here occasionally. When we leave I always remember why I don't frequent this place more often. Its more for the entertainment value than anything else. The food is average at best (even slightly below average). The service this time was excellent. Something hard to find these days. The entertainment was very good for our Chef (in-training). Very loud at times.
We went to Benihana for my sister's Birthday. We had 18 people and everyone had a blast!
This was only the second time I've been to Benihana's and both were great and memorable experiences. Both our server and chef were awesome!
A little lacking overall great food and atmosphere
I came for my birthday and was expecting a little more of a celebratory spirit and personal attention from staff. I heard other tables have Happy Birthday sung by several staff; mine was sung by our waiter only who actually seemed to have forgotten. Also, we almost didn't get our group picture taken had it not been for one of my friends who frequents, inquiring. It took 45 minutes for our food to come out which was pointed out by our waiter who apologized. He was very present when there and apologetic and seemed to have to be in several places at one. Our server did tell us that they were short staffed which might have been the reason why my party was lacking a bit of that celebratory spirit and personal attention. Overall the food was great and the ambiance was good!

It seemed like a training night for the chefs. The appetizer portions seemed really small. Usually we have really good food and good times here.
Adult Easter Party
First time ever to forgo preparing an expensive meal for our friends and family. Was so much fun, more relaxing than spending two days making dinner for twenty and so-so good. The waiter suggested the Las Vegas Rolls as an appetizer boy was he spot on! My wife and son each had the filet, dil had the prawns and I had my good ole tuna standby which was superb as usual. We all went home with lunch for Monday while we all felt we had eaten too much in a good way though! Benihanas is a well run machine. It's so nice to know when and what to expect. We will definitely make the drive for dinner again and again because it's so worth it.
Fun with family and friends
We enjoyed a recent visit to Benihana. It was an early reservation on a Monday night and I was surprised how quickly the place filled after 6 pm. We had four adults and two kids. Fun to watch the prep and showmanship. The filet was very tender and tasty. The kids loved the noodles. I think it is a bit of an overprice to charge each guest +$4 rice but the prep was fun to watch so I suppose it could be justified. If we were to do it again I think one extra order of fried rice is way plenty for two to three people. Also the upcharge on noodles for the kids was a bit much, but they really like noodles so that was ok. The ice cream for dessert was barely half a scoop....not really a serving for an adult. Too many mushrooms for my taste but at least they did not put them on my plate this visit. The cocktails were nice and not overly strong, so the way I like them. Guess I need to get out more as I did not realize a Pina colada was almost $10 BEFORE the gratuity. Chicken was good. The kids really iiked it. Steak was done to order. I would not bother with the lobster. It was not that good. Salads were some very large and some not so large with large variations in the amount of pungunt dressing. Some went back virtually untouched because too much dressing. It took quite a long time to get the orders taken, but after the chef arrived things progressed quickly. Fun place if you have lots of time and money. Reservations recommended.

One of our family favorite restaurants but very short of chefs during our latest visit and we had to wait over an hour before the chef came out. Part of this time was filled with the soup and salad but way too long between this and the chef coming out. When he did Dennis was great as our chef and was very good and entertaining.

I had a reservation and it was so packed I checked in then when I went back after 20 minutes they said it showed I was late but they were cleaning off our table. Then three more parties were seated. We made 4:45 reservations because the fireworks were at 6:45. We had to leave while the chef was still cleaning off the grill because the fireworks were starting. I never thought we would be there for over two hours. We were there to celebrate both my mother and my February birthdays. We chose to come on a day we couldn't use our birthday coupons because we didn't mind paying and keeping our Benihana birthday tradition. We didn't even get ice cream or our annual photo. It was a mess. The food was consistent and fantastic as always. That's the only reason I rated it two stars. Our chef and the server were great. he only reason I rated it two stars. Our chef and the server were great. On a side note we did make it to see the finale... Well everyone else saw it. I was driving and missed it.
Second time visit to Benihanna and my husband and I now have a favorite. Staff is attentive and chefs know their stuff. Very entertaining and great food. Will be going again and again.
Had a great dinner with wonderfully entertaining chef for a birthday party. Food is a little pricey but was all delicious.

The entire staff acted like they had no idea what they were doing. Bizarre experience
We made our reservations somewhat last minute for Valentine's Dinner. The place was extremely crowded and had been overbooked for reservations. We waited 45 minutes past our reservation time to be seated and didn't end up eating until after 9pm.
I have always gone to Benihana with my two children. This was the first time my boyfriend has ever been there. I was excited but a little nervous cause I knew it would be crazy. I am just impressed how well staff handled the amount of people that day.

Was ok. The food on the grill came off all at the wrong time in my opinion. The rice was cold by the time the meat was done cooking. Kinda disappointing.
Why people make reservation and exact time? Understand to wait for 5 mints. or 10 mints. not 45 mints.
Good Experience Overall
My group had reservations for Valentine's Day. There was absolutely no room in the restaurant for our party of five, we had no choice but to stand in the entry way while we waited over 45 minutes to be seated (not ideal for the current Alaska evening weather). We had an excellent chef, he was very entertaining and interacted well with the kids at the table. Our waitress seemed in a hurry to get us boxed up and out -- she asked if I was done eating before I had my first bite! There was also a man walking around the restaurant that none of the staff paid any attention to, he made my group and the other group at our table very uneasy -- he claimed to be a quality manager. I recommend dining here, but not for an occasion like Valentines Day.
Server and chef were both awesome.
The server and chef we had was truly awesome. I just wish I could have them both again when I visit, but that appears to be the luck of the draw and that may determine how often I go.
Don't train on duty
I usually enjoy BH. But on this nite our chef seemed new and inexperienced. He over cooked the majority of the food, which is not how u want seafood prepared. He didn't have enough supplies for all the guests at the table and forgot to cook my daughters entree all together until I reminded him that she hadn't got her food. He wasn't up to par with his presentation. The skill of those cooks in BH is impressive and always an enjoyable part of the meal. This nite our chef dropped knives, messed up during the 'performance' several times and seemed unsure how to perform many of the skills. Overall my kids still enjoyed the meal but I was disappointed. Especially for $175
Benihana's the best
We go to Benihana everywhere we are and it's available in that city. We found the Anchorage Benihana has the best consistent chef, and the best salad dressing. It still tastes like the original.

Great place to take your kids! Awesome service! Never fails! Plenty of food! Happy bellies! No hangry people!
Why make reservations?
I love opentable, I use it a lot. I have a small child and love being able to get in and out of a restaurant quickly. This is the second time now that Benihana seated us way later than our reservations (45 minutes). This is frustrating. The food is good, the "show" is fun for my child and I had two days of leftovers. I'm not sure I'll be back in a while and will avoid busy times. No other restaurant in Anchorage has blown my reservation times like Benihana has.
Good food long wait
We had a wonderful time and the food was amazing. The only complaint is we made a reservation and we still had to wait 30 minutes after our reservation for a table. If you have any sort of time table this isn't the place for you. Plan at least three hours for this meal. It was worth the long wait though. Also go with a large group. It isn't really couple friendly.
We had a group reservation for 8:30 with 8 kids and 10 adults. This was the first time most of the kids were going to be there, since they were traveling from rural Alaska for a school trip and we purposely made a later reservation knowing it was a large group on a Saturday night. We showed up on time, and we kept waiting for almost an hour. It was 10:00 by the time we were served. Understandably, the kids were getting impatient. The waiter was fantastic, and the chef was great, especially because they were at the end of their shifts and tired.
Not the normal quality I'm used to! Chef was not engaging and our chicken was hard on both sides and dry! When I commented it to the server her reply was chef?? Is usually very good!
Reservations were for 6:45 and they said there would be a wait so we could get apps and drinks in the bar area- so we sat at table in bar area for over 30 minutes and no one even acknowledged us or made eye contact. Then we were seated and waited another 15 minutes before our drink order was even taken. Chef was great our waitress seemed inconvenienced by us.
When we arrived at Benihana for our 8pm ...
When we arrived at Benihana for our 8pm reservation they informed us they were running about 15 minutes behind. Well 8:20pm rolled around so I went to see how much longer it would be. The manager on duty I want to say Jan/Jane listened to my question then turned her attention to another customer.. I waited for her to finish and then another angrier/louder customer was taken care of even though I was standing right in front of her. Once, she helped them she turned to her hostess and said "I don't have time for this and left". I then asked the hostess where we were on the list and she said there were just a few more people in front of me. We then went back to wait again. While we were waiting numerous guests had gone up very upset with the wait times they were receiving. The manager again did nothing to make the situation better and actually ended up yelling at some of the guest. Finally around 8:50pm we were called to get seated. We got to the table and there weren't enough seats for the 2 parties they called up. They added an additional chair and plate set but it was so crowded my husband couldn't even reach his plate without elbowing the poor girl next to him. The chef messed up just about every trick he tried but was very friendly. The food was also great. But, it took us 3 hours to get out of there. We didn't even stay and chat because they were rushing us out.
Great Dining Experience
Everyone was accommodating and did the best they could to meet a large group's needs on an extremely busy night.
Food awesome; service not so good
Checked in early for our reservation to find out that female on front desk skipping reservation -- if i didnt complain they wouldnt have figured out the issue, once sitted, we had to wait 30 mins for server, exhaust when cook was cooking died so its full of smoke, manager seemed not to care...food was awesome and our cook was very entertaining and funny...
Fantastic Show for Dinner
We took his little sister for dinner, her first visit to a Benihana, and it was great! We usually come alone or with a big group, so we're used to the family-style seating. Kayzee was our chef, and he was hilarious. He had a joke running at all times, which is great since they switched to cooking items individually (now everything is fantastic, no dry chicken!) we didn't even notice that some things came slower than others! They do the rice after the main meal, which was actually great, no more filling up on rice only to have all the meats to take home.
Excellent place to eat. Had a great time.
Every aspect of this restaurant was excellent. Our Service was excellent The food is wonderful
New Year Eves delight
We enjoyed our NYE at Benihana with family and friends. Kids enjoyed how entertaining the servers and cooks were and the parents were pleased that we were able to get reservations and have a no worries dinner. Food kept coming and was very tasty. Price was reasonabe.
The server was very rude and would rush us into everything from our drinks to our food choices. Because I had to look at the menu for the name of the food I wanted he just skipped me and walked away. It was my birthday and he just treated us like we were beneath him. He also didn't tell us that it would be 4.25 more for the chicken fried rice that he decided we needed to get. I tried to order sushi and he left and didn't come back. We had to ask the cook to grab him. By the time I got my sushi it was time to leave. Our cook was amazing though he kept us in good spirits.

Great food, great service. Always a long wait but worth it.
I enjoyed my dinner on Christmas. The process were a bit high but overall a great time.
Our family had a blast here at Benihana's. Kids loved it and atmosphere was perfect! Sake perfect!
Jonald is the greatest!
We had Christmas Eve lunch at Benihana Anchorage. We were surprised the restaurant wasn't more crowded. As usual, the service was great. Jonald was our chef and he was by far our favorite! There were 4 adults and 4 kids. Everyone was entertained and happy with their food. Lunch is a great value... similar portions to dinner but less expensive. Looking to make Christmas Eve lunch a tradition at Anchorage Benihana.
Good Food, Bad Hostess
We made a reservation at 7:00, everyone in the party was there by 6:50 and we were told we would be seated soon......they sat us at 7:50. The obviously gave our table away but made no attempt to correct their error. We had 3 children under 5 who were STARVING by the time the food was served after 8:00. This time we had a great chef (last time she was HORRID) as most are. Food is always excellent. We will go again but sadden it was a second strike in a row for Benihana and we have NEVER been sat that late for a reservation ANYWHERE.
