Batanga Ratings and Reviews
Great food, awesome ambience!
The service was great! Anthony was our server; he was absolutely amazing! Tapas style dining is a lot of fun and everything we tried on the menu was delicious and surpassed all expectations!! I have already recommended Batanga to many friends!!

Great service great food always a pleasant experience.
I'm not usually a demanding customer, but I think this was the worst service I've ever had. The waitress was no where to be found much of the time. We would have ordered much more food and drinks if she'd bothered to check on us. Food was very slow. We ended up cancelling orders so we could leave. She incorrectly charged one of our credit cards and then corrected it, but did not explain this when she handed back a confusing check. We asked to speak with the manager and were kept waiting 15 minutes for that to happen.
Batanga from an over 50 perspective
While I single-handedly raised the age demographic, I also lowered the hipster quotient by my presence. The food was good, the service was impeccable. It was a great way to spend a Friday evening. I like the old-world flavor with just enough hip...
Great food, lots of variety. The veggie dishes were especially notable. We were there on a night they were having a big anniversary celebration so it was particularly loud, and I think that;s why our service was a bit slow too. Good for groups (the "select 6/8/10 tapas" option was really helpful) but it was so loud, hard to have much group conversation with anyone not seated near you. Definitely an energetic atmosphere.
Overall not a great experience
It was my first time at the restaurant along with 7 others for brunch. Honestly felt like staff was not friendly, non accommodating, and lacked communication with each other. Many mistakes occurred from the time we arrived til the time we left! Too many to list and explain and I dont have the time, just wanted to voice my opinion. Im a patient and understanding person because I've worked in restaurants for 10 years and I'd have to say this restaurant was one of the worst services. Needless to say all 8 of us felt the same and will not be returning to this restaurant.
Service needs improvement
This is the 2nd time we dined here. The first was shortly after it opened. I see the menu hasn't changed much but many of the items are tasty so that's okay. What's not okay is putting an inexperienced waitperson who obviously doesn't know much about the menu to wait on people. Several of the items we planned to order were out but no one was thoughtful enough to tell us while handing out the menu. Also I asked the waitress what the seasonal beers on tap were and she went to check and came back to tell me they were St. Arnold and Karbach which is what is written on the menu, not the actual beer flavor. So if you're really particular about your beer, you might want to go elsewhere or sit at the bar where hopefully the bartender has a clue.
We loved the food and atmosphere.
We ordered several tapas to try between the 4 of use and they were all delicious.

I cannot wait to go back!
Went there this past weekend for my 25th. The food was awesome, our waiter was super friendly and the atmosphere rocked. There's a huge, spacious patio and the location is great!

Waiter completely messed up our order. Had to request dish for 4th guest several times. Manager came. In the end, they did not even gave us a free drink or the time of day. And the food was very subpar. Too bad because the patio is lovely.
Great food, I'll be back!

Food and service not good
I took to Batanga for his birthday loves trying new places, Spanish food and great music. We were sorely disappointed with everything including the service. The only food dish worth noting is the grilled steak. We will not be going to Batanga again.
Food was terrible. We tried 12 different tapas and only one was Ok. Will not come back, i prefer other tapas places in houston.
Early dinner after a ballet show
We were easily seated since I made a reservation w/ OpenTable. But since it's one of the 1,000 dining point restaurants, be sure to emphasize upon check in since it happened twice where they just canceled the reservation and tagged me as a no-show. We ordered the grilled octopus, skirt steak w/c were both flavorless and swimming in oil. The skirt steak came out room temperature. This was a little surprising to me. Get the yucca fries, meatballs and grilled avocado. The waiter was spread thin or he was just very absent-minded that day. They need to take care some of the dead plants in the patio area. I'm sorry to pick them apart but visual presentation will add to the ambience.
Chef Rishi is outstanding. Everything from start to finish was absolutely delectable, and I am eager to return and sample more of his creations.
I brought my boyfriend here to celebrate ...
I brought my boyfriend here to celebrate an anniversary and I was not really blown away like I was the first time I visited batanga. It took our waiter a while to even take our drink order, then longer to take our food order. We ordered the grilldabeast paella and we knew it would take 30 minutes to prepare. 30 minutes later, our server came to apologize and let us know that he has forgotten to submit our food order. He stated he it would be another 30 minutes for our food if we decided to stay and promised a manager would come speak to us. We decided to stay because I had enjoyed the food before and I was hoping to speak to a manager as promised. 30 minutes later our food came out and it wasn't something to get excited for. The meat was lukewarm and the fries were cold. Our waiter did not seem to want check on us afterwards, so I settled for the food and to wait to speak to a manager. After paying 100 plus dollars for food and tip, a manager never came to speak to us and I did not feel like waiting anymore for poor service. I'm a little bit disappointed in this experience.
overall everything was great but the valet parking guy was trying to rip me off with a 5 dollar, I know is just 5 dollars but if he's taking 5 dollars what else he can take? He charge me with 15 dollars and the sign said 10 dollars now if he wanted 5 dollar tip then thats on the costumer desition.
Overall great but a few minor setbacks
I really enjoyed my overall dining experience. Food was delicious and was brought out in a timely manner. The only thing that was negative was the time it took to be seated. I had reservations for 8pm and did not get seated until 8:45. This is unacceptable considering I made reservations two weeks prior. Luckily my friends and I had drinks at the bar and we're enjoying each others company so we not too bothered, but I'd hope to wait less in the future.
Enjoyed the patio, Mimosas and food.
Ladies brunch on the patio on a lovely Saturday afternoon. Mimosas and Bloody Marys were great. Food was unique. It was fun to try new things--who knew?--Yucca fries are delish! We had a very good server who was full of personality and made our lunch even more fun.
Love the tapas & paella and the patio!
I love Batanga and their food! The only Problem they have is the service. It is very slow and they are unattetive when the owners are not around. Kinda slow. They have to make sure to keep up with their guests and keep them updated so at least the wait will be worth it. But all in all I love the food they offer and chef Rishi is the best! Patio is amazing also!
Great open table find
Batanga had great food awesome service both at the table and the bar where Lisa was fantastic.

Awesome food !, the service could not have been any better, amazing patio.... Fantastic dining experience!
On Valentines Day it appears that the restaurant got more patrons than they anticipated. The staff seemed overwhelmed. They could not keep food on the Brunch Buffet and there were long delays in getting food ordered off the menu. Some of the food seemed very good, but some items were poorly executed, I think because the kitchen was so far behind. The patio was nice and our waiter was fantastic given the circumstances. I may try this place again on a day that is less busy, but they definitely weren't ready for a Valentines Day Brunch.
Very good tapas better service
Very good tapas better service
all the training is in the back
The chef's work is spot on. The servers run around in chaos and shortchange themselves. The food runners had to go to multiple tables with food, showing the servers didn't use the write table numbers when entering orders. Our server made a single trip for every task. The manager needs to train these guys or get a team that knows how in there. You can see the stress in the atmosphere and it wasn't even 100% capacity. Food though... very nice.

Food and drinks are always great at Batanga; however, the service on our last visit was sub-par.
Great ambiance, slow service
Although the ambiance was fun, vibrant and entertaining (great live music), the service was unfortunately very slow. They took more than a day to reply to our voicemail to see if they could accomadate us with a table of ten for a birthday dinner only to reply back and say to book it ourselves on-line. We were unable to speak with a manager. Once we got there, it took them 20 minutes to sit us. It took them a long time to deliver our drinks and appetizers, and bill once we were ready to check-out. There was a private party going on in the patio and I can try to understand if there was a shortage of staff due to this and the reasons for a delay in service, but at the same time I believe that we deserved just as much attention as the other people dining there that night. Despite the slow service, I think it's a great place for a late night bite and live latin music entertainment.
Go somewhere else...
Fairly unimpressed. Hostess seemed high, which manifested itself in her inability to indicate I showed up for my reservation. Food was OK. Service was slow and impersonal. Would have preferred to waste my $92 for two people somewhere else.
There was inconsistency with the quality of the food. Portion sizes were extremely small. It's a nice place just to catch a performance and a drink once in a while.

The place itself is fun- great date spot or place to catch up with friends. Live music was a little eclectic, but a nice touch. Drinks are great! Food is hit or miss, but their menu offers a great selection. We sent back the half baked oysters, which is something we rarely do. The only thing keeping this restaurant from great is the service. Our waiter was great, but it took an hour from sitting down to getting or food. We were brought wrong orders 6 times from the kitchen, and noticed this was happening to other tables as well. Seems like batanga needs a better system for food ordering and delivery?
Service was spotty
We had reservations for 4 at 10 pm. We got there early and the table was not ready but we were seated by 10 So no problem there. Or first waiter Eric was awesome he made us laugh had fun with his job and took our order. After he brought out our drinks he disappeared. We got the 10 tapas tasting menu. We received all but 1. Finally a new waiter came by after about 20 minutes of us eating. Huge said he was taking over for Eric. We informed him of the missing dish....it still did not show up. Finally a manager came by. We told him we were missing a dish and he went to check on it. Still did not come out and we had to ask again for it. The manager came back by to tell us they are out of that dish. No big deal I work in the industry and it happens, but we should not have to wait 1 hour to be told that. The manager got another dish in its place. Finally end off the night time to pay. Our new waiter dropped off the check which still had the missing item on it as well as the new item. I would think the manager would have fixed that when he got us the new item. We put payment down and waited another 15-20 minutes for someone to pick it up, we actually had to ask the guy bussing the table next to us to handle the check, new waiter never came back. By this time it was 12:30 and they closed at midnight. It was us and another table there, waiter not to be found. After signing credit card slips he picked them up right away...disappointed in the top I am sure. As I said I work the industry I start at 20% for average service. 15 for eh 10 for bad in know you have to pay too share and I won't make you pay to wait on me. I have under 10% for the first time in a long time. Do Anthony aka new waiter if you see this your tip from my check went 25 that Eric would have gotten to 7. Manager never came by after the mix up on the food or the mix up on the check. Food was good. Live music was nice. Eric was awesome, where did you go? Anthony maybe just a bad night.
Service was terrible, we had to ask 2 times for a menu, 3 times for water refill and 2 times to order extra items. They made me the wrong drink i ordered but she was quick with the bill. Very disappointed.
We celebrated my 31st birthday here and everything was great. Staff was friendly and never felt rushed. Food was delicious!
Typical Tapas - Good Service
Batanga offers diners a rather typical selection of tapas. The happy hour menu is uninspiring in for food and drink offerings. On a recent visit my party and I found the preparation of the tapas to be unimpressive. The service, however, was friendly and attentive.
Small Plate Samplers Delight
The energy level at Batanga was fun and vibrant. Service was fast and the food was great. Big variety with some old faithfuls and plenty of unusual food items offered. Everything we tried was tasty. Between the four of us, we ordered about a dozen small plates and passed them around. We got in at about 6PM and made the show at 8PM with time to spare.
Amazing show and great dinner!
I really enjoyed the show and the food was outstanding! I went for a friends birthday dinner, but will definitely be going back with my husband!
You can skip this one
Sent back 3 drinks to start; even the gin and tonic was made with seltzer. Ordered three appetizers. One came out with brown avocado on it. The others (fried banana and marinated beet salad) were meh. Beet salad very acidic. Wife ordered the Duck confit and ate one bite. I had the fish tacos and they were very good. We sent back the duck and ordered another set of fish tacos before leaving. Won't be back.
Great Food. Service. Atmosphere!
I went here on the suggestion of a coworker and it paid off! I've only been to a few tapas places, and I don't know that I've had traditional Latin American dishes before so it was something new. I went with my girlfriend and had their Sunday brunch. It was fantastic! We tasted their green eggs and ham, chicken empanadas, and stuffed french toast. All three were delicious. Our waiter's name was Eric and he gave us great suggestions on what we should try. A musician came in halfway through our stay and played his guitar. It really added to the experience. Overall, it was a nice adventure made better by excellent staff and atmosphere.
