Babbo Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Never fails to impress
Always a fabulous experience! Love it! Food is perfectly portioned. Freshest ingredients.
Exceeded expectations; staff was friendly, food was great (ravioli was out of this world!) and worth the cost
Sisters get together.
A big birthday brought us together, and we all did the tasting lunch with wine pairings. Dessert was extra special as we each got a different one, and shared. Fantastic all round.
Great with reservations
Having dined here for years, the food is excellent although some dishes are becoming a bit indistinguishable from other Batali-Bastianich restaurants (you'll get a good meal at all of them). Babbo is tiny. Consequently, it's an ordeal to manage a reservation with multiple confirmations and reservation numbers. However, that also means that there are virtually no good tables. Upstairs seating is utterly devoid of charm. Downstairs seating can be lovely, but there is constant traffic no matter where you sit. Where you sit depends upon who you are and how lucky you might be. Nonetheless, the kitchen consistently turns out uniformly excellent cuisine. Wines shine. Pick an off hour to book (e.g., an early lunch).

I was so excited for this reservation, but it was sadly disappointing. The staff were ok, a bit brisk and short but fine. The decor seemed a bit dated but again ok. The food, the reason we went to the restaurant, the part we were looking forward to....so boring! The menu looked easy and interesting but although fresh and well put together, there was so little flavor and really seems like a basic Italian Restaurant like what you would find on the UES (Sistina...)octopus starter was delicious but beyond that we were not excited. We tried several pastas and they were so flat and flavorless. So surprised and sadly disappointing.
Super and superb!
For the two of us at lunch, we decided to course out two shared apps, one pasta and one entrée. We then asked the waiter and sommelier to pick one quartino for each course. Not only were the choices impeccable, the explanation enhanced the experience without being cloying or distracting. Feeling only support and never pressure, I'm sure we spent more than anticipated because of the excellent service--nonetheless, an excellent lunch at (for posh NYC dining) at a fair price.
The food never disappoints
You can count on delicious food every time at Babbo - though the appetizers and Primi outshine the Secondi by far. The service is not as great as it once was - a bit more harried and distracted - but it is still overall a great and very worthwhile experience.
Great wine and great food
Excellent wine to complement amazing entrees. Woukd highly recommend the mozzarella and the skirt steak
Might be better for dinner
If you are going to take a reservation at 1:30pm, don't rush the guests and be sure to listen to the order. Waiter recommended a favorite lunch pasta, I ordered his recommendation and got served something different (raviolis but with a different filling). Had the waiter checked back to inquire if we were pleased he would have found out that I didn't get what I ordered. He stopped by after we finished our pasta, I told him and he looked shocked that he had in fact ordered the wrong dish. We had two other courses, plus dessert, that were fine. We were neither served bread nor asked if we wanted it. The food was good, not great, but was offset by the rushed service. This was our second time at this restaurant; we won't rush to return.
Excellent food. Horrible service.
I was so excited to eat at Babbo. I made a reservation with my friend and made the mistake of showing up an hour early. The host acted like my name wasn't anywhere on the list. Once he discovered I was early, I asked if we could wait at the bar for a drink. He said the bar was for patrons who eat and suggested we go to Otto. Following his suggestion, we did. Well, I wish we stayed! When we showed up for our 9:00pm reservation we were told it was now busy and we would have a 20 minute wait. Well, by now we didn't want to wait, so we sat at the bar. The waiter just seemed aggravated when we wanted to share entrees and an appetizer. I loved both and wanted to order another drink and dessert but I was so turned off that we decided to go elsewhere. The food was great, but with so many great restaurants I will not return.
Excellent choice for fine dining on our first trip to NYC

My husband and I ordered the traditional tasting. All the courses were excellent--delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant. It's in Greenwich Village, which is a lovely neighborhood. I have not had Italian food this good in a while. And we live in the Chicago area!
Our eternal favorite
We've been coming here every three months or so for the last few years. The food is spectacular, as is the service, the wine, and, alas, the tab. But for a special evening out, we don't think there's a more satisfying place in New York.
Great food and service.
The food was outstanding. Our ONLY complaint was the fact that I wanted Pinot Grigio, which they did not have buy offered a substitute blend. It was quite delicious but we would have appreciated knowing it was twice the price of the cabernet my husband was drinking. Food was $62, alcohol was $118. hmmmmmmmmmm

I have been wanting to eat at Babbo's for years. For my recent trip to NYC, I made sure to visit. The food was great. Everything was very fresh and tasty. I really enjoyed it. The service was good. The staff was nice. It was a little pricey for lunch, but this was our little splurge.
Great food great wine and great service

Of all the food/restaurant choices in NYC, this should NOT be one of them. It is completely average.

Babbo has Saturday lunch..not brunch. It was great for me. Sometimes I need lunch meeting on saturday. Most restaurant serve typical brunch on saturday...not babbo. But one uncomfortable thing is..they ask me to confirm again my reservation by phone or email. I made my reservation through opentable as usual. The other restaurant never asked.
Springsteen and scallops
This was the second of Batali's restaurants we visited while on a 3 day visit to NYC. A nice opportunity to visit the Village, and a residential neighborhood. Service was excellent including the sommelier, making recommendations fit to our taste and budget. We had early reservations (5:30 pm) and as the evening progressed, the music selection became more rock n' roll than jazz/blues. My husband and I asked the waiter about it, who laughed and explained that guest either love or hate the music, but the intent was to make us feel as if we were guests at Mario's own home. At least we didn't have to wear crocs!
Mother and Daughter
My daughter and I met in the city to look at NYU, we treated ourselves to dinner at Babbo's. We were thrilled about our experience, the food was amazing...melt in your mouth pasta. We are both vegetarians and had many options. The service was outstanding. Overall an excellent experience and we look forward to returning.

Great lunch at Babbo
Celebrity Chef restaurants do not always live up to the hype but this one does. Silky, delicate pasta with sauces of incredible depth and flavor - best ever! Attentive, polished service with special kudos to the Somm., who discovered our wine was corked when he decanted it, saving us any embarrassment of raising the issue. Wonderful, memorable meal. Would highly recommend.
An important evening and Babbo very much disappointed and embarrassed me as a host. Even when I wrote to management giving Babbo a chance to rectify the poorly executed birthday dinner the only thing management offered was an apology. I've been fortunate to dine with many amazing establishments living in both NYC and SF and this was the first time where both entree's were executed poorly/ under cooked/ under seasoned and sent back. The only thing management offered was an apology. Well yes I am sorry too.. I would recommend another option to diners. Il Buco is humble and actually less expensive than Babbo with much better service and food. And if you really want lamb chops that are "Scottadita" try Kokkari, you will burn your fingers!

Wonderful pasta tasting menu! The progression of the flavors worked beautifully together and the wine was fantastic. The service was excellent. Very attentive and kept our meal at a good pace. Cannot wait to return :)

Babbo never disappoints! Love the food, ambiance, wine suggestion and energy! It's our perfect late-night dinner!
Babbo more than met our expectations. We went for our Anniveersary and had q fabulous meal. The staff was very helpful and attentive without being intrusive. We shared Armandino's Salumi which was fresh and full of delicate flavors. Next we tried the Pappardelle Bolognese with the most tender pasta and flavorful gravy we've ever enjoyed outside of Italy. For my main course I chose the Rabbit which is prepared three ways: confit, rollatini and braised, which was my favorite as it was more rustic tender and earthy, while the other two preparations were more refined and delicious as well. My husband totally enjoyed the Grilled Lambchops! We finished off our evening with some delicious Olive Oil Cake and gelato and espresso. It was truly a memorable Dining experience and we will be back soon!
food was fabulous, staff was wonderful. Great experience
You really get a taste of Italy here in Babbo's, the set up is unique too. Such that the couple sits next to each other instead of opposite, facing outwards towards the rest of the restaurant. So you can 'people watch' and can quickly get the waiter's attention too. The pasta was phenomenal (we had the stinging nettle fettuccine), and so were the seafood. We had the dark chocolate and pistachio semifreddo which came recommended by our waiter, it was decent but I've to say the highlights were the savouries for sure!

BABBO does not live up to Batali hype
I visited Babbo with 5 girlfriends for a pre-theater dinner. We were seated promptly. Our waiter, Carl, was brusque and somewhat annoyed with our party. We did chat for a while before settling on cocktails and wine. We told Carl that we had theater to attend, but the service was slow, and Carl's manner was rude. The food was nothing special--nothing I couldn't find at any fine dining restaurant in San Antonio. There was little creativity in preparation or presentation. Flavors were bland and uninspired. The whole menu felt dated and the ambiance unnecessarily stuffy. Would not recommend. With so many exciting places in New York, Babbo will need to raise its game. Right now, it appears to be resting on the laurels of its celebrity chef, and that's a death knell in my view.
Delicious food; Fun NYC experience!
I have been wanting to try Babbo for years and this first trip did not disappoint. The food was delicious, especially the asparagus antipasto and desserts. The service was great as well and we loved the classic rock that was playing!
First time dinner at Babbo
Very disappointed overall. Rude server, crowded dining room, food was average. What was that ridiculous "compliments fron the chef " offer, 3 hard pieces of bread topped by chick peas and a little tapenade? Bruschetta is served on toasted not dry bread! Not what we expected from Batalli and Bastianich.
Spectacular on EVERY level
I had forgotten how amazing Babbo is. Surely the best Italian restaurant in the city. The food, asparagus with duck egg, beet salads, crisp warm bread, sublime ravioli, perfect coffee and and a cookie plate worth saving room for. I cannot say enough about the food, service, ambience and quality. This is New York.
The food and service was excellent!

Everything I expected and more!
I have lived in NYC for 3 years and have not been able to secure a reservation at a good time until last night. It was worth the wait and if I had known -- I would have gone earlier. Wonderful restaurant on every level. Negoni at bar while waiting for my daughter -- perfect. Staff upon entrance -- Wonderful, professional, awesome Waitstaff -- Knowledgeable, attentive and not too attentive --- wine and water glass always full. Great food recommendations We shared a Mozerrella salad with Pesto -- Perfect Pasta Bolognese --Perfect Duck --Perfect Rapini with Garlic Perfect Chocolate Desert --Perfect I cannot wait to go back -- I hope I can get in!!! One of the best restaurants in NYC Oh-- and the room was both elegant and comfortable all at once -- as was everything in this Perfect Restaurant!

Fell short of high expectations. Food was too salty for my taste. Although pasta was good and cooked perfectly al dente.

We were several years ago and went back this time with great enthusiasm! Really disppointed! The food was not good, the wines prohibitively expensive. We will not be back !!!!
Unique Menu, Not great servicec
Unique menu that requires a well trained wait staff to walk diners through. Unfortunately our waiter was not very chatty and didn't explain the menu without being asked. He just said most of the items were "most excellent". Bus boy took plates away before I was done chewing several times. Felt very rushed.
