American Harvest Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
American Harvest is a classroom for those studying the culinary arts. Loved the teaching environment. The food was excellent. The menu was limited but it still had enough variety to meet most people's tastes. If you want just dessert, this is an excellent place to stop by and enjoy a dessert and coffee.
I was disappointed that the restaurant ran of out steak. We had a 12:30 reservation and I would have expected that there would be enough product to fulfill our order.
The food at the American Harvest is delicious and beautifully presented, often involving interesting combinations of vegetables. The selection of desserts is beyond belief. They always present at least 3 different freshly made artisan breads. Reservations are strongly recommended. The student / servers always taste the entrees before the restaurant opens, so we always check with them before making our choices. Meals are reasonably sized, not super-sized. Because it is a teaching situation, meals are presented as described in the menu. The choices are always interesting and varied.
Always a great value
This restaurant never fails to please. The food is beautifully presented, delightfully good and the best value around. And the dessert selection is the best!
Thought the food and service were very good.
The dessert bar looked awesome! The food and service was very good. Hostess seemed flustered and a little overwhelmed. Will definitely go back, but probably not until after the I275 construction is done.
This is my third time at the restaurant and they continue to impress me at each visit. The students really try hard to create beautiful dishes and in my opinion they have succeeded all three times. We got to watch as the instructor walked a student through the making of Banana Foster and were the lucky recipient of the treat after completion. Now that was a real treat! Very tasty! Would recommend American Harvest to anyone looking for excellent fare at a reasonable price. I just wish it wasn't so hard to get reservations there. Sometimes it takes up to 2 months to find a vacancy.

The food was delicious and the service was excellent. There was such a great variety of desserts to choose from that it was hard to pick just one. My friends and I will definitely dine there again.
Had to go since it was talked up so much must have hit an off day from start to finish it just didn't hit the mark only consolation was that its for the kids! I'll give it some time and visit again maybe I'll hit a better day.
We enjoyed our lunch tremendously. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious.
The meal was delicious, but the desserts made the meal. Everything was amazing!!
Remarkable Food, remarkable value
The food is exceptional at American Harvest. I had grilled pork tenderloin, and it was one of the most tender meats I've had in a long time. The accompanying sides were also great. And the dessert table is wonderful! We had the bananas foster that was served table side. The servers were new at it, and the liquors did not ignite but it still tasted great.
At American Harvest food matters. The students take great pride in their presentations and the customers' satisfaction. They seem to love what they do and they go out of the way to answer questions and take care of their guests. The food is quite good and attractive as well as tasty. This is a spot worthy of your presence.
love it!! always great food!!
i have been to the American harvest a number of times and have never been disapointed! always great meal and wonderful staff!
The atmosphere was bright and modern. The food was wonderful and the desserts were to die for. I took my mom for lunch to celebrate her 88th birthday and it was a nice way to spend it with her. The staff make every effort to accommodate your every need. Highly recommended.
Lunch staff and menu, pricing, ambiance was great!
We've been here for lunch twice within 3 months, first as a couple and then with another couple. We asked the other couple to come so "we could brag about how great this find was for us" and they agreed. All the staff is cheerful and the food is prepared so well that we prefer it over top restaurants in the area. We are already planning a large group to come experience it with us in a month or two. Thank your students and we appreciate seeing their names on the menu with the dishes they prepared. We say they deserve an A+ at least. We will be back to enjoy more fine dining and affordable pricing. We are seniors and have dined many places so appreciate when we can find such a gem. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Biggest complaint: They don't take Amex's Open Table gift cards. Huge disappointment and surprise being that it's a prepaid card. Other than that it was excellent. We went on Asian night and the pad Thai stole the show for me. The desserts were phenomenal. My husband raved about the Korean short ribs. I also enjoyed a citrus spinach salad.

Great restaurant. Have been there several times. Brought a friend for the first time. She enjoyed it so much, she will be back again.
A great experience
A friend and I went to the Latin American buffet with very little idea of what to expect. Wow, were we in for a treat! Each station had two different cuisines, there were 2 soups, a fish taco "action" station, and at least 6 cold salads. Everything was good, and the Jamaican pork and these little custards were amazing!!! The dessert buffet was worth the price of admission all by itself. The apple tartlets stood out there, but everything, again, was good. We split each dessert so that we could taste more! The food was all visually appealing as well. I am looking forward to our next reservation at American Harvest!
The food was delicious. I wish I could have brought home a menu to describe the dishes. We had the lunch shrimp (sooo good), 2 pulled pork sandwiches with homemade chips and the venison steak, 2 house salads, 2 soups and 4 desserts and 3 coffees. The service was very good and the atmosphere is fun, if not a little loud. The cost for for including 20% donation to student scholarship program was $98.00. Again, sorry there isn't more detail as I can't remember the sides nor describe one of the best shrimp meals I've ever tasted..
I really wanted to like it
The entrees were substandard for the price. The soup was lukewarm. There was little separation of flavors in the entrees. They tasted like something from a slow cooker. Maybe they try to make dishes far in advance and then heat it up, or maybe the food was just too bland. It wasn't good, and it wasn't cheap either. The bright spots were the baked goods and desserts. All of the bread was very nicely done, excellent. The desserts were very good. I was surprised that the OCC cooking program is so much better than Schoolcraft. I expected it to be the other way around.
Chef Shawn and his students do a marvelous job.
Never disappointed! Great presentation! Server was friendly and helpful.
What a gem!
I loved being part of the learning experience for the culinary arts students. Everything is done in a very professional way~~service, menu selections, desserts (did I say desserts~~YUM!!!).
What a treat. The salads and soups are superb, creative and tasty! The main courses are so-so. The desserts are amazing and flavorful.
The food is always incredible here! And be sure to have dessert, too. The Key Lime Pie was superb.
We found excellent quality of all items on the buffet and great selection. It was Asian night so we weren't sure what to expect but found it was interesting and everything was very good.
American Harvest doesn't disappoint
I have been to American Harvest a dozen or so times over the years and I always find something I truly love. This trip it was Asian night and I really loved the Crab fritters. They were full of crab which you do not always find. The only negative is that the salad zone has been shrinking over the years and that is a bit of a bummer because when it was larger I found some of the most delicious salads I had ever had.
Charming Lunch Destination
Lunch guests are treated royally at the American Harvest Restaurant. From the moment we enter, we are greeted warmly. The server is attentive and well-versed in the menus, and readily explains entrees and desserts. In addition the design of the restaurant is such that we have fine views of the outdoors as well as an interesting glimpse into the kitchen/prep area. The food? It's superb! Not only pleasing to the eye, it is quite delicious. The students are all to be commended.
The food was amazing! The staff was phenomenal. The service was wonderful. Everyone was so helpful and accomodating. There were amazing options even for the pickiest eaters. The wine list offered plenty of options to compliment any meal. Truly enjoyed a wonderful evening of great food, great friends, and great fellowship.
Excellent food, but service too slow
We came in for lunch. Every bit of food and drink was excellent. Unfortunately, with an hour for lunch, the service was too slow. We asked to get our check, and to get our desserts to go because we were running out of time. The restaurant matron insisted that our server fully clear our table before we could order our desserts, and before our check was brought. This was after we had told the server we needed to hurry. The server was apologetic. If you wish to appeal to the business lunch crowd in the area, it's got to be faster. While my husband and I greatly enjoyed the meal, we won't be returning for lunch. The restaurant was also too loud, even though it was only half-full. Some kind of sound dampening is needed.
I was taken to lunch for my birthday by a good friend of mine. I couldn't believe you were serving one of my favorites (Lamb Shanks)!! In addition to that, my dining partner had one of her favorites (Carpaccio). Our soup and salads were wonderful...love your vinegarettes!! Finally, I was surprised with a beautiful chocolate inscription on my dessert plate. Too perfect!!
The food was great and the service even better.
The food was great and the service even better. Such a nicely appointed room with plenty of space between tables. My salmon dish was excellent, special veggie appetizer compliments of the chef, but the delightful young lady serving our table was equally important to our enjoyment of the meal. These students are getting excellent training.
First visit, not our last!
We were able to finally able to plan a lunch at American Harvest. As mentioned in so many other reviews, the food was excellent! Our server seemed nervous but was quite capable, answering all questions we had. These ARE students, under supervision. We had a question about the appropriateness of tipping. The the meal and dining experience were certainly worthy, but this a school and class for the students. From the hostess , I learned that all tips go fully to the scholarship program. .. good to know!
Wonderful Lunch Experience
Wait staff was attentive. Amazing dessert choices. Fun to watch the chefs- in-training learn and prepare the food. Very nice atmosphere. Best for the non-picky eaters, since selection may be limiting for lunch. I, myself, could have eaten any of the dishes prepared that day. I picked the dish, none of my coleagues picked, so we could see the presentation of the dishes. Keep in mind this is a teaching restaurant. There were bones in my fish, but I did not expect perfection. The presentation and taste were excellent, especially for the price. We are considering having a department Holiday dinner there with our partners, in order to experience the dinner buffet.

I've eaten here many times. It's always an interesting selection but hit or miss on the flavor of the food. This time the salad was mediocre- I was unable to detect any blue cheese in the dressing. The side of basmati rice was barely lukewarm and was extremely plain- not what I expected from a culinary school. It should have had something noteworthy added to make it special and not just a form of sustenance. Desserts were good. The cheesecake looked wonderful but was somewhat bland. However, the bread pudding with bourbon sauce was quite good.
American Harvest is always a great treat and fun experience. You never really know what will be served and can be assured it will be delicious. The buffet allows for many selections and if you are up to it,you can try a little of everything served--American Harvest always offers great soups, wonderful choices for salads--and not the regular lettuce, tomatoes, etc. Also, the main course dishes are always great. The dessert counter offers so many choices its hard to choose and most guests take a few desserts which is ok. You have to try American Harvest!
It was our 1st time dining at American Harvest.
The food needed a little more seasoning, and we had to remember that that the food was prepared by students of Schoolcraft College. It was fun and will dine there again.
Wonderful dining experience at American Harvest!!
This was our first time having dinner at American Harvest. The menu on the night we visited was a buffet. We all know that buffets can be hit or miss (mostly miss), but the American Harvest dinner buffet was outstanding! Fortunately, the students were preparing for finals; their dishes were executed very well. The lamb chops were the best I've ever had. The international salads were equally fantastic, and the deserts were simply excellent. The bread pudding was the best!! Thanks for a wonderful dining experience.

I have dined here for lunch many times. There are always excellent food choices. The menu options on this date, however, were not the greatest. And I did not care for the lamb shanks that I ordered. I'll be back again and will look forward to another menu of great options.

The service was exceptional. Everyone was passionate about the food, from the wait staff to the chefs. The food was flavorful and paid homage to South America (it was South American night) well. From what I tasted, the flavors were bright but nuanced and restrained. The best part of the meal was the dessert. Having a sweet tooth, I tend to be biased, but the pastry chef should be applauded for the beautiful and delicious dishes they served that night. Thank you American Harvest! I intend to dine again.
