Lovely new location
This was our first visit to Amber's new location. The food was delicious, as always and we really enjoyed the ambience of patio dining by the fireplace.

This food is so delicious here! It doesn't matter what you choose; it is all so flavorful. The patio on a warm evening is perfect too. This is one of our go-to favorites.
Food is very good but I still think the price they charge is high for the quality.

Veggie and Amber dinner allowed assortment where Paneer, Ceylon chicken, lentils, kheer, and puffy bread were highlights of excellent meal.

the moment we walked in, we were hit by smell of sea food. it was very strong. when i told a waiter, he was rude. food was also not great. Amber Santana Row does a better job than this place.

Love the new digs. So much better than the strip mall location with all of the tiny rooms. My only critique would be that now it's a single large dining room with all hard surfaces and nothing to dissipate sound. The result is it's pretty loud, which of course, effects the ambiance. It's nicely decorated and the booths are super comfortable. The food is still wonderful, doesn't disappoint and the service is impeccable. There's a new lounge called the Cellar down the stairs before the entrance to Amber India we saw on our way out. It looks cozy and romantic, so we can't wait to try that before dinner next time.!
Have been going here for many years.
We have never been disappointed over the last 15 years going to Amber India. They just moved across the street to a new location with more parking and a nice dining room layout. Food was outstanding and everyone enjoyed the evening. It was almost full on a Tuesday evening. We ordered our favorites from the menu and also got an excellent lame vindaloo that was not on the menu, but they said they could do it for us.
Yummy Indian Food
I had not been to Amber since they moved across the street and was happy to find the new space is larger than the original; however, I do think it now lacks some ambiance and authenticity. But the food is still delicious ( the eggplant is my favorite!) and I will go back. This was my niece's first time eating Indian food and she was quite impressed. The portions are reasonable and the service was appropriately attentive.

Excellent food. Great service. Friendly staff. Recommend this restaurant for good, variety Indian food.
Amber has moved locations!
The new Amber is on the WEST side of El Camino just south of Whole Foods, which caused us some confusion as I was sure I knew where I was going! Once there, we found the new location somewhat odd. There's a smaller main dining area than in the old restaurant, and it's furnished in hard surfaces, amplifying the noise. There are additional function rooms and an outside dining area with an enormous gas fire. As the temperatures were in the low 50's, this area was empty of customers, and the fire wasted. Not great for sustainability. Anyhow, the food hasn't changed very much, which means Amber still serves some of the best Indian dishes in the area. Truly delicious food, served with great professionalism by an army of waiters. Thankfully, no changes there. However, I wonder if the clientele is paying for the move and the renovations (and the fire)? The prices seem much higher than I remember at the old location. We had to work hard to keep our bill for two adults and two young children to less than $100. I LOVE Indian food, but am not usually prepared to pay $20-$25 per entrée. Next time, I may stop at the much less expensive Amber Café (which hasn't had a renovation in quite some time :), and bring the food home to eat.

I was disappointed in the food. The Prawn balchao was very spicy, but tasty. The Teekha prawns were chewy, dry and tasteless, as were the burra Kabab. The chicken kebabs and seekh kebabs a were good. All in all a disappointing experience. Amber's food used to be much better. This was uninspired and ordinary. Even the chai had no taste. No cardamom or any other spice. Did not expect this from an upscale Indian restaurant like Amber.

A currie full of flavour and soul. We tried the chicken and lamb curries with garlic and basil naan and rice with a bottle of Italian prosecco spumanti. Nice room and decoration. The service was nice also. A place to bookmark and return.

The food is ALWAYS delicious here. We can never NOT get the tandoori chicken & sea bass..it's that good. The new space in Los Altos is beautiful but the noise level is intense. If possible, sit on the beautiful patio lit with overhead lights.
Wonderful food, attentive servers.
Very, very loud in the dining room, could not carry on a conversation easily.
Delicious Dining Experience
Nice ambience, flavorful meal and great service. A great find! Will be back!
Best Indian food on the Peninsula.
Amber India recently moved to a new, larger location across the street. Some reviews suggested that the ambiance was not as good, and that the food also had declined, which made us a little concerned. Not so! The main dining room is larger, and noise is moderate, but all well within local standards. The new bar is handy if you must wait for your table, and there are now private banquet facilities for up to 20 people, with a limited menu. But the food is still the reason to come here -- absolutely top-notch Indian cuisine. Our favorites are the sea-bass tikka, the butter chicken, the frontier kebabs, and the eggplant side. Service and attention were very professional. The only criticism is that the relocation seems to have triggered a price increase: $30+ per entree is a bit rich, and makes this for us more of a special-occasion event rather than regular dining out.
Same great food; significantly higher prices
The new location is nicely appointed, but the hard walls and ceiling make the place noisy even when the dining room is 70% full. I was happy to see very much the same menu as before, and the quality of the food remains excellent. Service is just fine. My problem is that prices went up something like $4 per entrée relative to prices at the previous location. That now puts it out of my league for anything but special occasions. That both saddens and annoys me greatly.
Wonderful new location!
As a long-time customer of Amber India, I was very excited to dine in their new location. The new restaurant is set just off the El Camino and has plenty of parking. The main entry passes by a lovely open air patio, where a private event was taking place. It looked very nice and there were outdoor heating lamps to fend off the chill. The bar is a great and friendly place to enjoy their signature cocktails. The main dining room is warm and welcoming with subtle lighting and their beautiful photographs of India on the walls. As always, the food is the best Indian food I have had in the Bay Area. It is considered by many people I know as 'The Gold Standard' of fine Indian cuisine. Come and enjoy!!
Good food but too noisy (no sound proofing)
Attended the new site for the first time for dinner . Was sadden to notice that it was VERY difficult to hold a conversation at the new site (we had 4 in our party) and we all had a difficult time hearing each other as there's no sound proofing in the room whatsoever. So you're fighting to talk over others around you so that your guests can hear you. The previous site was perfect (food, atmosphere, ambience)...wished they didn't move. If you don't care to talk to each other and just go there to eat and run, then this place is for you. Food is still good but wasn't impressed with the garlic naan - couldn't taste the garlic at all. Service was a little better than the last time I was here (they filled our water glasses without having to ask).
Always loved Amber. First time in its new location in Mountain View on El Camino. The food was outstanding as usual.
New Amber location
We have enjoyed Amber in Mountain View for many years. However, we weren't thrilled with the new location. It is quite noisy !! We think on a warm, summer evening it would be nice outside, but inside is just too loud, what you call energetic, for us. The food is still very good.
Top Notch Dining
New location, same high standards! From exquisite service with great attention to details, through beautifully presented dishes, to the highlight of Amber MV - delicious, aromatic Indian food awaking all your senses!
India At It's Best!
The new Amber in Mountain View, now located across from its previous spot, is now in Los Altos, with an ample patio for outside lunch/dining, plus a pleasant inside dining room But go for the food, which is simply the best Indian food in the Bay Area. And the service is excellent.
The new location is very ordinary looking . It has lost the cozy feeling from the previous location and has become just another Indian restaurant dishing out mediocre fare. The ambiance and the food was very ordinary. I would not recommend this restaurant for those wanting to celebrate special occasions.
Best place for Indian food in the Palo Alto area.
The food was delicious, better than it was in the space. There is lots of parking. It looks like a wonderful place to eat outside when the weather is warm. It even has an outside fireplace.
Read very great reviews about this restaurant and took my family for holiday dinner and bitter experience first time in Bay area at Indian restaurant. Food is not great. Chef seems to like vegetable curries sweet . Navaratn Korma is one of the Indian vegetarian dish that is expected to be spicy (atleast not sweet). I couldn't make difference if it's Navaratan Korma or Malai Kofta...

The food was not as good as I remembered. Dishes were bland and naan bread was not hot and seemed old...like it had been sitting there for awhile. The new place is nice and has potential but part of the buffet was just across from the door which was open and it was cold...so was the food. I was hoping for better. I may try again when it is not lunch to see how the food from the menu is...
Restaurant was cold. Downstairs bar was a freezer.
A cut above the bulk of its genre
We loved our meal at Amber. What sets them apart is that (a) they have dishes other than the standard ones found at many Indian places, and (b) their take on the standard dishes is different. We loved the unique flavors, which they achieved without over-spicing. The ingredients appeared to be of high quality, and of particular note was that the spinach in the Palak Paneer was bright green, not the usual olive drab color, implying that they used fresh spinach instead of frozen or canned. Service was very courteous, although a little slow at times due to how busy they were. On that busy Saturday evening the noise level was higher than we'd have preferred, but it didn't affect our experience very much. Overall, it was a nice surprise!

This place is awesome I will come time and time again as opposed to Santana Row where the manager has the crappiest (I hope you have fired him!) attitude. All was nothing but excellent.
The former location of this restaurant had much better ambience. You could describe the former as romantic, but this one not so much,
Needs some quick improvements
We noticed definite changes in the food preparation, none for the better. The Tandoori chicken was not sufficiently marinated. The rice was very dry. The eggplant was not seasoned the same as before. We have recommended Amber India to all our friends for years, so please correct these issues
Enjoyed the new location.

Lots of interesting looking things on the menu. Appetizer selected was fine. But main course was 'colourless'. Strange thing to say about Indian food - but is was sort of monotone: just one flavour, no sense of the colour or vibrance you'd expect. Odd - maybe it was an 'off' night.
good for the whole family
went with an extended family which included people from 3 yrs old to 67. there was something on the menu for everyone, from soup to rice dishes to chicken dishes to vegetarian choices. everything was very good and the service was wonderful.
Great food but noisy venue.
Everything about this place is positive except the noise level. Even in a social group setting, the lunch volume was so high my ears hurt and we could not communicate well. I do not recommend this place for a business lunch conversation -- just too loud.

During the years Amber India has never disappointed us and a great place to dine with just the family or a group of friends, colleagues and visitors. Every time we appreciate the quality of the ingredients, the incredible flavor of each dish and the extreme accuracy of each recipe. The service is professional and discreet, a pleasure.
Great food and service
The waiters are pros and actually care that you enjoy your meal. I ordered an exotic sounding drink (jaljeera) and he brought me a sample first to make sure I'd enjoy it before committing a full glass to my bill. It was not to my taste so I went for a mango lassi instead (it tastes like they use real, perhaps even homemade, yogurt btw). Butter chicken was superb. Vegetarian dish and assorted breads were quite good as well. Ambiance isn't great, but with this type of food and service it was great for a 3rd date meal.
