Alan Wong's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Good but not Great food
I booked a table in this restaurant since we were in Hawaii. I got the Ribs and my wife a steamed seafood casserole. That was good but i ate better for cheaper . For me it is still a good experience but i wasn not blown away by the food. The area is not really on a safe side too.

Can't go wrong with this menu and if you are undecided the waitstaff are superb guides!
Excellent quality of service and food. The Onaga was exceptional! We will definitely be returning to Alan Wong's in the future.

We chose Alan Wong's to celebrate our anniversary because we knew the food and service is among the best in the country and they came through. We had a wonderful evening with great sustainable Hawaii Regional Cuisine and superb service. Mahalo to Chef Wong and his staff for a memorable experience.
One of our best dining experiences. Highly recommend the 5 course menu sampler. They personalize special occasions. Would say more but might ruin your special day. Everyone we dealt with was personable and professional Well worth the price.
I knew that going to Alan Wong's I was in for a treat. The went above and beyond to make me and my husband feel special. Michael was a great waitor and was able to accommodate my specific needs without sweat.
Eatertainment at it's bvest
We had a fabulous dinner sitting at the Chef's Counter. It was fun and the food was great. We had a hard time deciding what to eat as we wathed the Chef's prepare all the dishes. The presentation and taste were both top notch.
I've heard for years that Alan Wong's was the best restaurant in Honolulu and we weren 't disappointed! It was fabulous.

A true Hawaiian feast with impeccable service and ambience. We were celebrating our honeymoon and treated to a spectacular night at Alan Wong's. Thanks you to the chefs and team at Alan Wong's--it truly lives up to the hype.
Alan Wong's was a real treat... from the bread service to the Ahi appetizer and Opakapaka main we had a lovely time. The sommelier recommended a terrific wine based on our love of Spanish reds Campagnes in a great price range and was such a nice and approachable person. In addition the service was outstanding the food beyond delish... We also had a steamed/smoked Kalua pig and clams appetizer that was wonderful on the presentation and tasted fantastic. We hope to be back and highly recommend...

We have been several times in the past and have always had wonderful service. Perhaps it was very busy last Thursday but our waiter was a bit curt and short w us. Maybe this was so because we were only ordering pupus and dessert but we also had a lovely bottle of champagne . There were three of us , all women . There was a little language barrier . When my husband and I have been before the service had been much warmer . That said , We were pleased with most everything and never felt rushed . And we would definitely return Sidne long
An Icon in Need of a Refresh
I've been coming to this restaurant for years, and over those years not much has changed at Alan Wong's. Most notable this time was that the service was completely on autopilot. Everyone went through a spiel on the menu and practically every aspect of the restaurant as though they were all preprogrammed to recite the same thing over and over. Food also has dated and is over-complicated. The special Poke was as far from poke as you can get, with far too many ingredients overwhelming the fish. All the food preparations were way overdone and far too elaborate. I hope they chill out, simplify the menu somewhat, and get some personality into the servers. Or simply go elsewhere like the Pineapple Room, Alan Wong's easy going restaurant.

Food was 5 stars. I deducted 1 star because the waiter spilled red wine all over my dress and while they were very apologetic the management only offered to pay for the cleaning but who wants the hassle of collecting the cleaning charge. We all thought they should have at least comped the wine or a dessert. But I don't fault the waiter he was very embarrassed and accidents do happen.
Food & service was great, but...
Food and service was outstanding! we shared course menu with other dishes. Every times when we got each courses, server change our tableware. Pretty impressed. But, we got 1 problem. Our team was 2, and we wanna make together. So they said it can be after 30 min. Even We waited, need another 5 min. And again another 5 min waiting time! I knew its not easy to make sure. But if it was some issue, they had to recommend that we can make to separate again. If there's no issue, 'Alan Wong's' was my best restaurant in my life.
Dinner in paradise
One of the most fabulous meals ever! I sat at the Chef's Counter watching all of the action and interacting with the chefs. Incredible teamwork producing a memorable dining experience. Chef Alan Wong came to see me and signed my menu. Looking forward to my next visit.
The food is emblematic of Hawaiian fusion genre
Food was excellently prepared and plated. Service was very helpful and friendly, if not entirely professional. Wine list is short on by the glass offerings and very expensive (as is the dinner menu). The bar makes an excellent martini! Overall I'm glad I can now say I've been there, done that, but for the money I probably won't be back anytime soon.
great food and service
Food was delightful as always and the service impeccable.
One of the best in Honolulu
Alan Wong's has great service and food is wonderful. I like eating on the lanai which is quiet and has a view of the mountains. I always enjoy their seafood dishes but am sure everything is quite good. My friend had the short ribs and really liked them. The seafood cake appetizer is really good and the fish is excellent. It is a wonderful dining experience. Pricier than many restaurants but worth it.
DO NOT GO HERE!
This was the worst dining experience I have ever encountered. Clearly this restaurant has quite literally cashed in on tourists looking for a fine dining experience, but PF Changs might actually offer better. Orchids and La Mer are far better.
Top-notch dining with Hawaiian Farm-to-Table menu
What a fantastic experience! Destined to be one of those "10 best meals of my life" events. I was there on St Patrick's Day, and they had prepared a special tasting menu. The tasting menu is a great way to go: it removes the decision-making, and presents their best creations. Add the wine pairings for an exceptional experience. Parking is a little tough - just use the valet to make it easy.

Fantastic! Every course was better than the next. Definitely a required stop for foodies and special occasions on Oahu. Would recommend to anyone, and would return in a heartbeat!

Very good tasting menu. Good service but not excellent! The wine selection was not well balanced (either cheap/poor quality wines or excellent wines but too expensive). Suggest better selection of good global quality wines in the mid price range.
Fresh, tasty, local ingredients with fantastic warm friendly service. This restaurant serves some of the best tasting foods in the entire world!
The staff and the food was both outstanding! For the quality of the service and food the prices were fair. We will definitely be back.
great food but even better service!
We visit Hawaii regularly and every time we make sure to visit Alan Wong's. Food is fabulous each time and this last dinner was made all the more memorable by how great the staff was. My husband and I accidentally left our camera in the cab and realized it half an hour later. The manager, Olive, played PI and requested any clues that would help track the cabbie down. Numerous calls and frequent updates later she told us our camera could be picked up back at our hotel.👍🏼 Amazing all around!
loved every aspect of it; food, service; details
It was a wonderful dining experience. we went for our 20th wedding anniversary and were made to feel very special. The food is innovative, beautifully displayed and delicious. The staff paid great attention to detail and it is always the little things that make or break a place and they were excellent.
Get the coconut for dessert. Do it. The seafood shooters are multi layered and tasty. Of course the signature dishes are fantastic. The martinis were super smooth.
Great for special occasions
The restaurant is tucked away on a busy street and accessed by a small elevator, but once upstairs the warm atmosphere immediately greets you. Our servers were impeccable in their timing and Chef Alan Wong has created dishes which truly reflect the island culture while bordering on the impossibly delicious. I recommend the 'tasting menu' either with or without the wine pairing. Our anniversary dinner was made special by personalized menus and a surprise dessert. One caveat - the tasting menu is a substantial meal which left us both quite full, so bring your appetite if you choose this selection. We will absolutely visit again.
The food was good but not up to what you would expect for a restaurant that is supposed to be noted as a foodie or fine dining destination. Also, the service was noted as slow in other reviews and that was our experience as well. Compounding the problem of a slow kitchen was a lack of awareness by the staff; we were mostly ignored between courses until a waiter overheard us talking about the slow service. They apologized and gave us more bread (after we asked) but the kitchen was still slow.
Alan Wong's ROCKS!
This was my 4th time I was privileged enough to visit this fine establishment and they did not let down. The food was exceptional, the service impeccable, and I had told them it was my guests birthday and they made it very special. I cannot rave enough about this restaurant. If you want to go, reserve early, they get booked up well in advance. Love this place!
This is the fourth time to this restaurant. Every time I come to Honolulu, make me inspired to a new world. Hope to visit next time.
Service (Aaron, Max, and others) was attentive, food was outstanding! We chose the tasting menu and couldn't have been more pleased. We celebrated a birthday and received a personalized menu and dessert too. It was a very special evening.
Alan Wong Never Disappoints
Alan Wong's is what fine dining is all about. From the moment you step inside the experience is beyond reproach. From the hostess to the server to the bussing staff there is not a missed beat here. The food is both creative, sublime and frequently surprises. Alan Wong's offers a fusion cuisine that mixes a Euro/Asian sensibility through a distinctly Hawaiian lens. It is THE destination for me whenever I am in O'ahu.
Superlative and consistent
The food and service continue to be superlative and consistent. The new items and the old favorites including the "Obama menu choice" are all wonderful.
Ordered Chef's tasting menu and it was just awesome.

Highly recommend that management discontinue the overhead radio station music. Noise level on Saturday night at 7:00 PM was already fairly high. Radio station music only increased the din. After 8:00 PM, when the dining room began to clear, radio station music only distracted from the outstanding culinary and service experience. Overhead radio station music was tacky and inconsistent with the Alan Wong dining experience. Sincerely, Elwin Goo Cell: 808-348-3140

The tasting menu was superb! It allowed us to experience the most popular dishes throughout the meal. I highly recommend the wine pairings as it was a wonderful compliment to the food. Service was excellent and this was a great way to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
First time at Alan Wong's
My wife read about the restaurant on the Departure magazine that we receive monthly, and made the reservation ahead of time when we visited Honolulu, our reservation is at 5PM due to restaurant is fully booked, our waiter is very good and explain the dishes in details and recommendations, we ordered the "menu tasting" that has most of the specialties in a small portion, presentation is very good, but it is a bit salty on my taste. the dessert was the best of all coconut sorbet! one note the air condition should be turn up a bit as it is way too cold for ladies with dress.
What's all the hype???
I had read many reviews about Alan Wong's rating it the best restaurant in Honolulu so I made a point to go there. Our server was very nice and helpful. We did have wonderful appetizers, Poki Pines and Pork and Shrimp Dumplings. We had a 9pm reservation and there were no fish dishes left which was disappointing so I ended up with the Lobster Lasagna which was good, but not memorable. The restaurant's air conditioning was set so low and even though we had sweaters, we didn't stay for dessert.
Outstanding dining experience!
Alan Wong provides outstanding dining experiences. He is for ever coming up with new and creative ways to tantalize the palette. The food is superb, and the service is excellent. We are so lucky in Honolulu to have a restaurant of this quality.
