29 South Eats Ratings and Reviews
Delicious and special dinner!
Do not miss any opportunity to dine at 29 South! Every dish our party ordered was fabulous. From the pulled pork spring rolls, to the fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, fried chicken, shrimp & grits -- and then the dessert, Chocolate Souffle' Disaster -- everything was so unbelievably delicious. An excellent meal and dining experience.
A great experience again.
The food and service have never disappointed. A better selection of beers would make me even happier.
According to the reviews and listed awards, this would be a dining venue to look forward to experiencing, with an outstanding chef. Simply put, it was terrible. We ordered the fried chicken as our entrée. It should have been listed as deep fried batter, since the batter was at least 85 percent of what was on the plate. After finally excavating and revealing the actual chicken, it was dry and tasteless. The remainder of the meal, including the salads were equally uninspiring. There is nothing that would urge me to recommend this restaurant.
Interesting food and reliable delivery
I always bring my out-of-town visitors to 29 South for brunch as I know I can rely on thjis restaurant to do a great job of delivering southern food with a flair.
The food was superb here, definitely worth the visit to experience the food specials.

A nice meal
Very good, creative food; interesting wine list. Service was warm and thoughtful. We did not feel rushed; however, the kitchen needs to slow down the pace of their food prep. Apps arrived almost immediately after ordering - Entrees arrived immediately on the heels of app removal. If we had ordered a bottle of wine vs. by the glass, we would not have had time to finish it. Oddly, the restaurant does not serve tea of any type.
The Bar UnParalleled!
For the past four years, BarZin has been the go-to place for the celebration of my wife's birthday. At first the attraction was Sea Bass, but once that left the menu, she still wanted to return for the ambiance and surprises that replaced it. Our most recent visit consisted of an order of the pesto encrusted flounder and a melt-in-your-mouth pot roast. The wine list is always a treat, and the waitstaff is knowledgeable about making recommendations. We have recommended this spot to all of our friends heading to Amelia Island.
Very good as per usual. A favorite of ours. The swordfish special was delicious and my husband loves the fried chicken. Our server was friendly and accommodating. Our guests loved their meals and of course we all shared 3 different desserts. Love the "donuts and coffee".
We really enjoyed the food, the service didn't seem like a priority although not bad, ambiance nice neighborhood restaurant, very casual both in attitude and dress. Good wine selection and great desserts. We would go back.

I'd have given it a 5 but I ordered the biscuits & gravy & the gravy had a shrimp flavor to it...not for me. Everything else was good.
Always, Always a hit!
29 South is always a great experience for us and our friends. Not only is the food incredible, but the service is top notch as well. The entire staff is very knowledgeable about their menu and about food in general....you almost feel as if you are dining with a bunch of chefs.

My wife had sowrdfish, for the first time, and I had the shrimp & grits. She loved the swordfish, and the shrimp & grits were excellent.
We visit Amelia Island every month from Ohio and always make sure to have a dinner at 29 South. Always great, try the Fried Green Tomatoes
Better than the Southern food I grew up with!
Four words: Fried green tomato stack. Also, succotash. And the ravioli and brown butter brussels sprouts would get me back here! Very tasty food, and sitting outside on the porch on a late spring evening was delightful.
Sweet Tea Pork Chops
The sweet tea pork chops with mac and cheese are to die for! Any time I am in Fernandina Beach, I will go there for at least one dinner.
This is one of our all-time top five restaurants, and one of things we most look forward to in visiting the area.
This is a great stop when visiting Fernandina Beach. We stopped in for Brunch on Sunday afternoon and found that we just loved everything about it. The service, the food, the atmoshpere...everything was most delightful and we can't wait to return. Be sure to try the coffee and donuts for dessert. They are like nothing I've ever had before. We will definately be back!
We have eaten at this restaurant many times when we come to Fernandina Beach for vacation and it is always wonderful. The menu is smallish and hasn't changed much over the years. The veggies are very fresh because many are grown in the garden behind the restaurant. I had the shrimp and grits and it was seasoned perfectly, the shrimp was cooked just right and the grits were creamy but not soggy. My husband had the seafood special which was presented nicely and he enjoyed it. We ordered the coffee and donut dessert which is always tasty. Our only complaint was that the spoons are kind of big making it hard to get every last bite of the dessert!
I took a group of 6 to 29 South. Every person came away with nothing but praises. The food was great, even catering to my special dietary needs . The wine was great. David find a wonderful job of being attentive yet not over bearing. I have already recommended 29 South to several people.
Great place - came highly recommended
Can see why it's a popular local and visitor spot, and why it was recommended by multiple people. The food was very good, fresh, and innovative without being "fussy." Our server was helpful and attentive. Definitely plan to go back even though it's about an hour drive for us. Couple of minor opportunities - I made a reservation online. When we arrived, our table was ready with no waiting but we were told we had to sit inside because the reservation was made online. However, there was no option given online as to whether we preferred outside or inside. Also, one person in our party wanted hot tea and that was not available. Seems like a pretty easy menu addition - some tea bags and hot water is all that's needed.
The Lobster Corn Dog is a Must
The most unique Corn Dog ever. Incredibly flavored. The Fried Geen Tomatoes were also excellent. A must visit place if you are in area.
If Farm to table is what you're looking for....
You've found it. Well prepared food in unpretentious surroundings. Nice spot in what was formerly a home in historic district. Decent wine list and nightly specials.
Good Food But...
The service needs some work. There seems to be a communication problem between the servers and the kitchen. What is ordered and how it is requested to be prepared does not seem to translate to the preparers. Also, one dining companion was hit in the head with some napkin rolled silverware. The food itself is tasty and the presentation is good. Prices are reasonable for the quality.
Worth the wait
A little hard to get into, but the food is WORTH IT. Open table made it possible to make a reservation in advance. Worked out perfect. Low key inside, cozy feel.

If I was on death row, their sweet tea pork chop would be my last meal.
Less than impressed
I have been to 29 South multiple times in the last few years and have always been very satisfied, until my most recent experience. The food, service, and overall value were just subpar: The fried chicken that I have enjoyed in the past was very dry and the skin was even a little brown, obviously overcooked. We never saw our waitress after she took our order, a couple other parties walked in so the manager refilled our drinks and took our payment. The value was not there because of all of the above and that we paid $10 for a single piece of toast with a couple toppings as a appetizer. This all happened on a Wednesday night when basically no one else was in the restaurant, so there is no excuse. I don't know if I will be back, but I expect a better experience if I do.
Very unique food, but delicious!
Very unique food, but delicious!
Always love it here.
It has been a few years since we've been to Fernandina but 29 South is ALWAYS our favorite and we make it a priority to go. The food is always fantastic and we get very excited when we know we can actually get squeezed in if reservations weren't made. This was our 25th wedding anniversary and it was wonderful.
We have been to 29 South many times but it has been almost a year since the last time. Quality of the food and service are always very good. And, in the past, the amount of food was always more than acceptable. However this time we were somewhat disappointed in the portions for the price. Hopefully this won't continue.

We had lunch and was going to order the catch of the day sandwich, but they only offered talapia. I was disappointed in the fish that was available. I thought they would've offered a better choice, like Mahi or flounder.
