About 18 Steak

18 Steak Ratings and Reviews
Good as usual
We have been dining at 18 Steak since it opened and have yet to have a bad experience. This time I simply was not in the mood for a full dinner experience and ordered from the appetizers and side dishes and was not disappointed. There really are times when a steak or fish is simply more of one thing than you want. Turning the menu into a Tapas experience was a delight and I will definitely do it again. No, you do not save money from the entrees, you simply open you dining experience to combinations you would not normally experience.
Food not worth the $$
Lobster spring rolls were inedible. Steaks were flavorful but not the caliber expected from a $40-60/steak restaurant. There are better options in the area. The ambiance was nice and service was exceptional though.
Great place for an Anniversary Dinner
My wife and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary on Thursday. We have never been to the 18 Steak before tonight and it was a new adventure for both of us. We valet the car and walked straight into the place. They knew who were were and called us both by name when we arrived. The seating was facing the river and the service was outstanding. I am no expert when it comes to food but I have to say the dishes were ordered were extremely good. The wine selection was impressive for such a place so far away from the city and we both enoyed the evening. Our waiter presented the dessert to the table with a sparkle candle for our celebration which added even more enjoyment to the evening. However, it is not cheap! This was a very high level of dining but you pay for what you get. We can only afford this once a year!

Another great dining experience
Another trip to 18Steak and another wonderful meal. The steaks, wine, and dessert selection are all top-notch. I highly recommend this place for a special occasion. It can be pricey so search their online menu to make sure it's in your price range for the night.

It was a special occasion... My daughters 21st birthday and we wanted to take her to the casino so we choose 18 Steak to eat. While the food wasn't bad.... There are other better restaurants in town with a better steak and more reasonable prices.

Celebrated 21st Anniversary at 18 Steak. It was perfect. Made reservations early the same day in open table, noted it was our anniversary. A secluded spot was picked for us and the experience was great. The food was even better. The bone in filet was terrific. Recommended for sure!
Simply wonderful. The steaks are cooked to perfection. And the 5 onion soup is fantastic. A unique twist on onion soup has you wishing for more. Service is always great - just enough contacts to ensure that everything is going well without being obtrusive.

The staff is very accommodating and always eager the help. On several occasions I have made atypical request, e.g. take my hat, open my wine with this opener from home, etc. and have always been accommodated. The food is not your usual Louisiana fare; it's in the style of South Louisiana Cuisines but with a creative fare. For me, the best prepared steaks in town. We like to ask to be seated in Jeremy's area, he is a very good server and lots of fun!
My wife and I went to 18 steak for a romantic outing. The ambiance was very inviting and very warm and cozy. We were given water however we waited for at least 15 minutes before the waitress came back to take our appetizer order. It took another twenty minutes before she came back to offer additional drinks or apologize for the slow service. I ultimately had to call her as she walked by to get a refill on water.

Decent food, poor service
We went to 18 steak on Valentine's Day because we decided to go out last minute and our favorite places were booked. Parking was a bit of an issue, and you have to walk through the casino to get to the restaurant, which we found off putting. Once we arrived, we were seated right away. The restaurant was about half full at that time. It was a while before we saw our waiter. When we did see him, we had to ask for a wine list, which was brought to us only after we got our salad. We ordered a wedge, and it was as expected. We had to ask for bread after our salad arrived, and it was cold. When our steak arrived, we had to ask for steak knives. The filet was cooked and seasoned well. The bearnaise sauce was a bit different than usual and seemed more like mayonnaise as it was white. We ordered a side of mashed potatoes, but we were served and charged for lobster mac and cheese that had relatively little flavor for such a high fat dish. When we told the waiter that the order was incorrect, he said he would bring out the mashed potatoes. They never showed up. We got the chocolate indulgence dessert, which was pretty good if predictable. The price was similar to Fleming's, Sullivan's, or Ruth's Chris, but the service and food were no comparison. Overall, the place isn't bad, but if you are going to do a high end steakhouse, then you have to compete with the others in town.
I was extremely disappointed with the quality of food we received at 18 Steaks. we played it safe and ordered three steaks and all of them were prepared incorrectly. Medium well came out medium rare and well came out charred. Crab cakes were awful very fishy tasting with no flavor.

The steaks are charred on the exterior. Some people love it, some people hate it. The seafood bisque us sweet. It also contains nuts (pecans). I didn't appreciate these things but another may. Ambiance is excellent; great views near the windows on the river.

Excellent food. Portions though we're up there so we ended up splitting a steak. Diner beware! Worth it though!
Food was mediocre and WAY overpriced. Service was ok but overall we were very dissatisfied.

I was not impressed with my bone in filet and lobster. Not on par with other prime steakhouses in Baton Rouge such as Ruth Chris or Flemings. Sorry, I wouldn't recommend to a friend. The view in gorgeous and the service was good.
Great Service / View
My wife and I had a great experience at 18 Steak this past weekend. Our waitress and the wait staff was first class, and very attentive to my wife's gluten free requirements. The view of the Mississippi River was awesome.
Waitress was awesome!! Food was bland, steak and even the potatoe had to be dipped in ketchup. I don't mind paying a little more for quality but this was a far cry from quality, but price was there!! Would not recommended or visit again!!
Best Steak in Baton Rouge
This restaurant has never disappointed. Be sure to get the BBQ shrimp as an appetizer and save the "sauce" to dip your steak in (don't feel weird - people do it all the time!) Their filets are great and I love them with their mega-sized baked potatoes. For dessert, don't miss the crème brulee! Enjoy!

Bring back the onion soup in an onion bowl
The 18 Steak Restaurant is a good value and can compete with any of the high end restaurants in BR. Little disappointed that the onion soup served in an onion was no longer on the menu. That is really a unique treat and I bragged on it to my daughter and her husband. We come here for special occasions and will be back. I have and will reccomend 18 Steak to friends and business associates.
Waste of time and money!!
The only thing good I have to say about 18 Steak is the cocktails were worth the money, but that was about it!! It should not take a steak restaurant 45 minutes to cook a filet, utterly ridiculous!!! I will never go back.
very nice but changed the menu
The menu online is not the same as the restaurant.
The only problem that I ever have when dining here is trying to decide what is better, the food or the service!!!! A++++

We was seated 40 mins late. Then we sat for 30 min before a waiter came to the table. A couple items we ordered made it to the table when we was finished eating. There was a couple items on our ticket we didn't order. Arrived at 7 left at 9:50. This was because the service was so bad!! The good was very, too bad the service wasn't. We want be going back!!
I made reservations for our anniversary online with a couple of special requests. Our experience started poorly with the hostess, she totally missed my request for a window seat which would've been excused had the restaurant not been empty. I had also arranged in advance for flowers to be delivered and notified the hostess in advance about it but when we got there, no one knew what I was talking about. It was all incredible from that point. The manager quickly caught the hostess missing my request and without me even saying a word about it, moved us to the best table in the house, we felt like royalty in an intimate, almost enclosed booth overlooking the river. The flowers showed up about halfway through the meal which I thought actually went over better than if they would have been there from the start. The food was amazing, from apps to dessert. My steak was cooked perfectly, the apps were the perfect portion size, even their pre-meal bread was to rave about. The service was top notch, about the best I've ever had in a restaurant in Baton Rouge. I look forward to returning and definitely recommend for that special night.
Excellent experience. Food and service was excellent.
Amazing food, great atmosphere
Staff was exceptional. This was our 4th or 5th visit and each time we are impressed. Of course the steaks are great but the oyster app was the star this time. I could have eaten that over and over as my meal. Compliments to the chef and staff.
18 Steak had a 5 course special with wine pairing for $175 per couple for New Year's Eve. Since we planned on staying at the hotel for the night, we decided to give it a try. The experience was great. After five perfect courses and five glasses of wine each, my wife and I were full as could be and a bit tipsy. This was a great meal and a wonderful experience. Our waiter was on his game the entire night, even when the restaurant started to get busy.
Memorable as always!
My wife and I have dined here before and food and service is just impeccable. My wife had the Tuna and I had the prime rib. My wife's tuna was done to a turn and strangely, my prime rib did not look or taste like prime rib I am used to getting at other places, but was tender, cooked correctly to my request and really delicious. Bread in most restaurants are just something you get to munch on while waiting for whatever you ordered. Not here, these rolls were so good, we asked to take some home, and seldom do I take bread from restaurants because they are so plain. I think 18 Steak should offer this as a side, because I go to L'Auberge once a week with a friend to gamble and I would bring a batch home before I leave. This bread is THAT GOOD!!
Food's just not good.
The restaurant looks nice, with great plush booths, but none of the items we ordered were very good. Foie gras was cooked hard, not seared and melty as it should be, the ribeye was a strange color and flavorless, salad was overdressed with burnt bacon, and the onion soup was a thick cheese soup, not a rich broth. The service was good, but that just can't really help the surprisingly bad cooking. This was the first bad meal we've had in a Baton Rouge restaurant in 3-4 years. Also, I realize this is located in a casino, but if it is a fine dining establishment, why seat couples in t-shirts and baseball caps in the main dining room amid tables that are celebrating and dressed up as they should be for this venue? Casual walk-ins should be seated in the bar.
Food was excellent and service was great. They hired a new chef.

Wonderful birthday celebration!
We had a wonderful time at my husband's birthday celebration! From the excellent service and attention to detail to the scrumptious, mouth-watering food we couldn't have been more pleased. The outstanding selections on the charcuterie board was a perfect lead-in to our delicious appetizers, the foie gras terrine and roasted lamb lollipops. By the time our entrees arrived we were almost full but still managed to dive in! Between four of us we had the strip, prime rib, filet and scallops. Each one was more amazing than the next as we sampled all. Our sides of creamed spinach (with egg...amazing!), roasted wild mushrooms and grilled asparagus were fantastic. This wonderful feast was accented by flavorful wines recommended by our outstanding, attentive waiter, Chris. Finally the birthday desserts of praline bread pudding and vanilla bean cheesecake arrived with sparklers! A fitting ending for a most wonderful meal.

Arrived on time for 6:15 reservation. Had tickets for 8:00 concert event in same building and alerted waitress to that schedule. By 7:05 had only receive salads. At 7:45 with no meal delivered yet we canceled order and attended the concert without having eaten dinner. One hour and 45 minutes should be more than adequate time to serve a meal. VERY DISAPPOINTING.
Horrific Dining Event
The waiter served our wine after our steaks had arrived and attempted to fraudulently switch bottles with a different brand and vintage. I caught this when I had to pour our second glass and discovered that he had hid his deception by wrapping the napkin to obscure the brand and vintage. I then requested that the manager come by our table to discuss this and requested that our bill be adjusted for this deceptive practice only to have our half eaten steaks removed from the table at the same time that our bill was left with the appropriate credit for the switched wine. This was all witnessed by two other dining parties that we having service issues as well. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
